Assessing network quality
I am trying to trouble shoot one of my ISP's network and compare to my other ISPs offering. Although network 1 is reasonably fast and has low enough latency, voice quality is not good and the reason for this is not readily apparent using standard network tools. What tools can be used to assess the quality of the network in terms of it's suitability for voice? I am using ping, mtr,

Degraded voice without packet loss
In making calls outbound through various VoIP origination providers people on the PSTN network have been complaining of poor voice quality. Diagnosing has been difficult with limited feedback but I tried using different originators and seem to have the same problem. I used TestYourVoip.com and generally get a 4.4/5.0 MOS score with no packet loss but the echoed voice I hear back is

Will Asterisk be supporting RTCP XR in the future?
This article below came up on the newwire. The RTCP XR RFC was published. Will Asterisk be supporting this function in a future release? Does anyone know if any phone vendors are going to be supporting it? Thanks Lee Goodman Our Technology Update this week is about one of those mechanisms. Known as RTP Control Protocol Reporting Extensions (RTCP XR), the technology defines a standard way to

MOS Scores and LCR
Is there any tool that can do LCR for Asterisk but also take into account MOS scores? Is it possible to automatically generate MOS scores on random "calls" so as to keep an updated database on a per provider, per destination, per time-of-day score? Hopefully, with that information we can create a better LCR module or script? Thanks, Daniel

uplink call quality issues
Hi Can someone please help with the following, We are using asterisk@home 1.5 and SIP trunks to communicate to the PSTN network. We are having some problems with the call quality. Although we can hear the other person's voice quite clear when making or receiving a call, we get complaints from the people on the other end saying that our voices sound very unclear, low and that the voice

increasing throughput over slow-but-fat WAN links?
Hi there We have a world-wide WAN network that we are running rsync over. It all works - but the throughput of any one rsync connection is limited by the latency on our inter-continental links. e.g a site may have a 4Mbs link, but a single rsync job can only get 1.5Mbs of the bandwidth. Running 3-5 rsync jobs in parallel gets around that limit and obviously allows us to saturate a particular

QOS ip filter does no work with 2 queues below top level queue ...
Hello First thanks for the answers I have received from the list!! I have now a working qos configuration which bases of the lartc howto capitel 15.10. One Problem I have is that I have limited the upload stream to 100kps because my upstream is only 128kbps. Everything works fine EXCEPT Voip. I have a VoiP phone which is connected on the same net as the adsl modem BUT does not use upstream it

QoS + OpenVPN
Hi, I''ve got 3 questions: 1) is it possible to do QoS and OpenVPN? I thought about doing QoS based on IP, as there''s a couple of servers here that need to be on a higher priority. 2) can anyone point me to a decent QoS how-to? 3) damn, I can''t remember what this one was. :o) Cheers, Fernando

IntServ QoS question
I''m using KOM_RSVP I''m trying to figure out what trigures and RSVP session. When I send traffic with a certain utility the RSVP PATH, RESV, and CONF message is sent. How does the Deameon know to setup a connection though? There is something internal at the client source happening. I just haven''t figured it out yet. Is it listening to a certain port? Any help would

Validating QoS
Hi all, I have been tasked with "implementing QoS" on one of our networks. Looking at the documents of LARTC I believe I can implement most of what we want just using netfilter rules and tc. So far, so good. My question though is how can I analyse how much of an improvement I can expect to achieve using these kinds of solutions. Does anyone here have any experiences that they can share

QoS Linux questions
Hy, I''ve two question about the QoS on a Linux system. 1) What''s unit it uses for the rate in the differente configuration of the schedulers, IP rate or Ethernet rate ? 2) Is it possible to attach on a interface, a queues with a strict priority scheduler and two or mores with a HTB scheduler ? For example, a queue for the VoIP with a strict priority, 2 queues for Video and

QoS IP precedence and Diffserv combination
All: I am tasked with creating an environment in which DiffServ and IP precedence is handled as close to RFC specification as possible. I have a few problems with implementing this based on current queueing structure. Here are a few of my questions. 1.) Is there any way to get DiffServ AF drop levels without using DSMARK and GRED? Ex. AF11 Gred DP 1 AF12 Gred DP 2 AF13 Gred DP 3 2.)

QoS prio queuing
Is there anyway to actually see packet stats or that packets are for sure going into a prio queue with TC? I can see all the HTB stats but the prio classes just list as being there...would like more information Basically I have the following setup DSMARK | HTB - (tcindex filter on TOS) | Prio (u32 filter on TOS) Thanks Jon Flechsenhaar Boeing WNW Team Network Services

QoS + TOS field
Hi, I''m trying to figure out how to use Linux QoS. Default setting has three queues (bands) and should prioretise outgoing tarffic based on TOS field. I try to test that by flooding Ethernet interface by netperf or iptraf and running ping -f with -Q and without Q. -Q doesn''t affect ping results, it suffers anyway. It seems that I don''t understand something. I verified

jdg-qos & DSL
hi all! i have a dsl connection with 1280 kbps for downstream and 256 kbps for upstream, and i want to manage the bandwidth to give high priority to voip traffic and low priority to p2p traffic. i found the script jdg-qos. i readed on this forum (i have a dsl-g604t router with MCMCC firmware) http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16250220 that the two parameters of the jdg-qos script (DWIFLIMIT
