nuby: how spec redirect_to at ApplicationController
Good morning rspec people!
Still rspec nuby: I must do something wrong obviously.
How can I spec about redirect_to at ApplicationController
describe ApplicationController do
it "method login_required should redirect to home path without login" do
pending "I tried to use controller.login_required.should be_redirected
and got NoMethodError with nil object

Going beyond the default html formatter/report?
Hi!
I wonder does anybody planning to go beyond the default html formatter/report?
The current html report is nice and green but what about to go a
little silly and enable also user input. For example to let customer
to add a new pending spec, comments etc. I feel it might be mentally
easier for some customers to jump into spec world when it is possible
to give input at "the same

specing system
Hi!
Having some wine on Saturday and just playing around writing some ruby script:
* have you spec any ''system'' method? As long I know it just returns
false or true and everything else is just out of reach; prove me I''m
wrong :-)
it ''should have response with 64.233.167.99''
system ''ping google.com''

ror app with advanced rspec?
Hi!
Can anybody link to some ror based project what is using rspec, so
nuby as me can learn from it. So it should have updated and practising
advanced rspec.
After reading last threat about "testing behaviour or testing code?",
I just realised that I would definitely learn something from app like
that. Some casual googling didn''t help me this time.
Thanks!

Mocks? Really?
OK, so i''ve played a bit with mocks and mock_models in controller and
view tests and i have a question. Is this statement really correct:
"We highly recommend that you exploit the mock framework here rather
than providing real model objects in order to keep the view specs
isolated from changes to your models."

rspec-ui overlap with cucumber?
Hi!
I''m using cucumber + selenium and I love it. However I''m looking to
add some methods (example: click_and_wait etc) to the lib. Therefore
looked around a bit and I got two questions:
Firstly about rspec-ui, I''m a little confused, does rspec-ui overlap
with its propose with webrat with cucumber or I''m missing a point?
Secondly, are there any plans to

Deprecating the mocking framework?
I saw in one of Dave C.''s comments to a ticket that "our current plan
is to deprecate the mocking framework." I hadn''t heard anything about
that, but then again I haven''t paid super close attention to the list.
Are we planning on dumping the mock framework in favor of using Mocha
(or any other framework one might want to plug in?).

Mocking Resolv::DNS?
Hello Rspecers,
I have a rails project where I am calling Resolv::DNS.open and then
using the block to check a domain name.
The code snippet in question is:
domain = "mytest.com"
Resolv::DNS.open do |dns|
@mx = dns.getresources(domain, Resolv::DNS::Resource::IN::MX)
end
I obviously want to stub this out, especially for speed but can''t
quite work out how.

Terse Mocks
Hello,
I recently made a feature request with a patch for terser mocks.
http://rubyforge.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=10412&group_id=1917&atid=7480
Here are some examples with their current equivalents:
the_mock.expects.foo(1,2) {|a, b| :bar}
the_mock.expects.foo(1,2).returns(:bar)
the_mock.expects(:foo).with(1,2) {|a, b| :bar}
the_mock.expects(:foo).with(1,2).returns(:bar)

"warning: object#id will be deprecated" with mocks
hi all
I have the following code in a spec:
@user = mock("user")
User.stub!(:authenticate).and_return(@user)
@user.should_receive(:id).once.and_return(99)
post :login, {:username => ''username'', :password => ''password''}
session[:user_id].should == 99
it works as expected but I get the following warning when I run the spec:

Model Specs: Fixtures vs Mocks + Stubs?
What is the general opinion about fixtures versus mocking and stubbing
in model specs? I heard from agile on IRC that they save the database
testing for integration testing, but I also see that the caboose
sample applicaiton uses fixtures. I also noticed that on the rspec
site, it says "Ironically (for the traditional TDD''er) these are the
only specs that we feel should actually

Using mocks
I''ve just started doing TDD/BDD and like the idea of mocks. So I set
out to use them. The doc pages seem great, I setup the mock and then
it just works. Here is what I am trying to do:
Myuser is a non-rails model of user attributes. We are going to be
mocking the connection to the ldap server. The user class has a login
method that connects to the ldap server and if successful,

do we need stubbing?
Hey all -
The trunk currently supports three types of mocking/stubbing:
Mock Objects (created dynamically at runtime)
Partial Mocking of methods on existing classes
Stubbing of methods on existing objects or classes
The main difference between Partial Mocking and Stubbing is that Stubs
don''t verify.
I''m wondering if we really need the stubbing facility at all, given
that we

Mocking/Stubbing help with subdomain as account key
My app uses account_location to set up subdomains as account keys. In
my controllers, all my model operations are scoped through the
@current_person object.
The question is: How do I test this with RSpec''s mocking and
stubbing? Basically, I need to test that @current_person.things is
getting the find message and returning @thing. I''ve tried stubbing
and mocking

how to get observe_field to use GET method?

I am trying to set-up observe_field so that it uses the GET method (To
work with a RESTful controller).

How to keep mocks consistent?
Hey all,
Here''s a question for everyone: how do you keep your mocks and stubs
consistent with your real objects?
I''m dipping my toes into the RSpec world, and it''s absolutely
delightful (running dozens of tests in less than a second is nice as
well), but I''m concerned about my ability to keep the mocks in my
specs consistent with the behavior of their

Cherry-picking mocks?!
A colleague just came in and asked me about a problem he was having with
stub_render, which reminded me of another issue he had a week or so ago,
which seems related.
Let me start with the earlier issue.
He was trying to write specs for a method which sends the same message
possibly multiple times, but with different arguments under different
calling conditions. He wanted to write

How to use different mocking frameworks?
Hi,
I''m pretty new to Rspec, so hope someone can help me out with this.
I''m leveraging a couple pre-existing applications in my current
project, both have fairly robust test suites in Rspec already.
However, one is using Rspec''s builit in mocking, and the other is
using mocha.
If I set config.mock_with mocha in spec_helper.rb, then all of the
rspec mocks fail. If I

test/mocks/ in rails directory structure
Anyone ever uses test/mocks/development && test/mocks/test directories ?
If someone does, test/mocks/development doesn''t really seem like a
nice place for putting development environment mocked classes. May be
mocks/ should be moved to RAILS_ROOT ? Or may be it should be removed.
