Kickstart-based Install, editing comps.xml, hdlist/hdlist2
Hello, all - I've been throwing the question around on the kickstart-list for the last few days here, and can't quite get ahold of things. Please, allow me to explain. I am in the process of making a custom CentOS/RHEL kickstart install. It works well right now; however, it's a hackjob, and I am not comfortable with it as of yet. For the past few days, I've even gone as far as

Missing CentOS 4.7 update?
Unless I'm mistaken, does it look like Centos 4.7 is missing an update released on December 3rd 2008? Upstream details :- http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2008-0989.html An updated tmpwatch package that fixes various bugs is now available. The tmpwatch utility recursively searches through specified directories and removes files which have not been accessed in a specified period of time.

Centos 7 tmpwatch
I have noticed that tmpwatch isn't automatically installed with Centos 7, or at least it wasn't when I set up this computer. I further noticed that the Centos 7 tmpwatch rpm no longer includes /etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch I suspect that at least part of the reason for this is because the /tmp directory is now mounted as a tmpfs by default, so it's automatically cleared when the machine

EL8: SElinux / dac_override / tmpwatch
Hi, I'm moving some old stuff from EL6 to EL8 and one setup has a cron job which uses "tmpwatch -umc $dir" to clean some directories (/etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch). It seems that this triggers this AVC (SElinux mode is enforcing): type=AVC msg=audit(1598576896.772:4267): avc: denied { dac_override } for pid=11013 comm="tmpwatch" capability=1

How about a forked session supervisor in dispatch.fcgi?
I was talking to a friend of mine who''s developing PHP on trax and we came up with a solution to the ruby session file problem. I''m not sure if this idea has come up before, so I wanted to run it by everyone before making any code contributations and/or talking to the Rails core about it. It seems to me that the current situation we''re in with regard to

Runaway rpm process?
CentOS-6.4_x86_64 I have a KVM virtual machine (several actually) which acts as a warm spare for another kvm instance running on a different physical host. Each hour it backs up the live system using rsync. This morning I discovered that the backup instance was running at 99% utilisation and that the process consuming the entire virtual cpu was this: sh -c rpm -q -a --queryformat

A --exclude-checksum option?
Hi, I use rsync with hardlinks for backup, once a week doing checksums to ensure there's no filesystem corruption in the backed-up data. I also use tmpwatch, or something similar, to clean up /tmp, it removes files that have not been accessed recently. (atime older than some configured limit). I backup /tmp because I throw stuff in tmp that I might possibly need again but don't want to

Purge Trash Fileserver
Thanks for the answer. The problem that this way is pretty much the same as my find. I want you to be able to delete the file based on the date they were sent to the bin. As I gave in the example: The file has not been changed since 2015, when it is deleted now in 2017, it goes to the bin, dated 2015, when the find pass will erase, why it does not validate when it has been deleted, but the

how to find cause of disappearing files
Hello....here is an odd problem for me. I have a Centos 3 server which has software installed that creates its pid files in the /tmp directory. I am not sure which script on the server is being run that completely clears the /tmp directory except for directories starting with periods. Can you guys think of a way for me to monitor these pid files and immediately log which process deleted these

how to install standard software on systems with heterogeneous hardware?
I've been thinking about ways to proceed if I need to set up 5 machines with basically identical software but somewhat variable hardware. A simple approach would be to just set up my golden system and clone the disk, but the hardware differences would probably cause problems. One approach that appeals to me is to install minimal centos on the first system, add a few rpms after installation,

arpwatch-2.1a11-7.E3.2.i386.rpm
Hi, I think the package arpwatch-2.1a11-7.E3.2.i386.rpm is missing in centos-3/3.1/updates. Or is it located somewhere else? The packages libpcap-0.7.2-7.E3.2.i386.rpm and tcpdump-3.7.2-7.E3.2.i386.rpm are present and they come from the same src.rpm Jan Kees
