RE: Hardware dimensioning issues To: <juanmoyano@southecon.com.ar>
Juan,
I am running a Calling Card application on a
Dell PowerEdge 2850 with Asterisk 1.0.7.
Recording conversations I have seen on my server
causes the processors to burn more than necessary
so I would recommend what William from Signate
recommended:
" Consider saving recorded calls in a database on a
separate server. It will be simpler to build a
retrieval interface that does not

Overhead paging over IP...
I have a customer that has two buildings that are connected with a
fiber link. We have a single Asterisk server to cover both buildings.
Now the customer went and bought an overhead paging system for the
remote building and they want to integrate it with Asterisk. Is there a
device that can connect over IP or an ATA that has an audio output port?
The buildings are about 500 meters apart so we

External relay triggered by Asterisk extension-question
Very friggen cool, that you very much for the information it looks like
it will do the job nicely.
What did you use in your extensions list to activate the relay?

Hotel Setup?
I am working with a small inn (under 50 rooms) that is next to a ski
resort. The inn just had Cat5e Homeruns to each room installed, with a
patch panel in the basement. Now it's my job to connect each of the
those rooms to the Internet. I think I have a Cisco switch that I can
do Private VLANS with, however I thought of another solution.
Has anybody seen or does anybody know of a VoIP

Paging to external speaker like in airports etc...
Hi, I have a production asterisk-1.2.8 system with FreePBX & PRI Digium card.
I am looking for a paging system to an external speaker. I can page to internal Polycom 501 VoIP.
But, what hardware or system do I need to integrate with the asterisk to have this acheived.

Interesting catalog: Viking Electronics
This is not specifically Asterisk-related, but I think that sometimes
a "pre-emptive" clue is a good thing.
Viking Electronics (http://www.vikingelectronics.com/) has some neat
widgets that attach to phone lines, which I'm sure many of the people
on this list would find at least somewhat useful in conjunction with
their Asterisk systems. Many of the widgets can be replaced with

FXS or VOIP
Hi
I am setting up a phone system for a small office.
The office will have 5-8 phones and a fax line.
There are 4 hunt lines coming into the office.
We have made no hardware purchase yet.
Being an asterisk newbie, before I suscribed to this list I just
assumed that I would buy voip phones and connect
all the phones to a private ethernet network.
However, I see many people inquiring about FXS

Viking CPC-Disconnect
Someone on the list a while back suggested that if you were having
problems with call disconnects, to look into a product from Viking
TellecomSolutions called cpc-disconnect:

I received my unit on Friday and put it into place Saturday afternoon
(SBC in this area doesn't supply call disconnect supervision). The unit

A few questions before final proposal...
I am attempting to assemble a proposal for a client of mine that is
looking to replace their phone system. I think it's a good first
installation with 4 POTS incoming and 15 extensions, with an overhead
paging system. I also think that it would make a good case for OSS
applications in general.
Being new to * I have a few more questions, but won?t flood the list
with them. I?m not new to

''dependencies'' and RedCloth
Hey gang.
Jed noticed an issue with the ''dependency''/''dependencies'' macro the other
day when working on the Collective wiki. Namely, if you make RedCloth a
dependency Merb gets a little cranky. I think I have this figured out when
doing some mods to Collective today too. However, before I go trying to fix
this in Merb, I wanted to run this by the community.

Asterisk to Cisco Unity
Hi all, first post. My company's office in the UK is soon going to get a
Cisco VoIP solution system. What I am interested in, and couldn't find
googling, is if it is possible to connect an Asterisk solution to the
Cisco system and have all the nice advantages of it (mainly calling the
extensions and directly reach the other office).
Thanks, have a nice day

Conflict with openwatcom (wrc)
Whoops. Sorry about that. I wasn't supposed to actually have that as a
reply, it was meant to be another top-level post. To summarise, wrc in the
Mandriva wine-1.1.0 RPM available from Sourceforge conflicts with the name
of "wrc" in openwatcom, which is also a Win32 resource compiler.
Cheers, The Viking, Flying Brick Systems.

Connecting home intercom to Asterisk?
Hello
I assume I'm not the first one to think about this: Is it possible to
connect an intercom and/or door bell to Asterisk, so that I can get an
e-mail that someone rang my place while I was out?
Even better: If used for a doctor's office, it'd be cool if patients
could type their Social Security Number on a keypad, which would open
the door and notify Asterisk which would then

Mailing list policy
Hi all,
right now the centos-virt at centos.org mailing list is set up such that
all posts by people not subscribed to the list are auto-discarded. This
is in line with all the other lists and I propose that we keep things as
they are. The reason for this is that traditionally the amount of spam
that centos lists are getting was very high.
I am not sure this holds for centos-virt at

Resigning as lead of the Virt SIG
Hi all,
I wanted to let you know that I feel I need to step down as leader of the Virtualisation SIG. When I originally was approached by KB to do this, it was always clear that this would be a temporary thing until the SIG got going. At the time, only Xen and CentOS folks were involved with the SIG. Since then, we added oVirt and Docker maintainers, have a total of 5 maintainers and built good

Zone Paging
I see a lot of chatter in the archives about intercom and paging, but
has anyone addressed zone paging? Each of the 50 telephones in a large
clinic would be members of one or more paging zones. Someone could then
page Dr. X in zone #1. Would this be possible with analog phones? SIP?
Thanks,
Mike

MeetMe hardware dimensioning
Hi all.
What is the best hardware configuration to handle this following
scenario?
- 4 IVR menu with conference applications for each option;
- Only SIP/g711 user access
- 3500 simultaneous users(800 at the beginning)
- No ZAP channels
Where is the most important point of failure? CPU? Ethernet? RAM?
Im planning to separate in three servers:
Server01: 01 Xeon 3Ghz getting the 1st level of
