Asterisk firewall config
The asterisk wiki states that it needs SIP, IAX2, IAX and RTP open to the
world to work. Is this necessarily true, or does it only need some of these
outgoing?
I'm concerned as anyone that could guess an extension number&password could
use my server to make outgoing calls. It would help if the extensions had a
netmask/allowable IP setting like the iax.conf file uses, but there

Configure asterisk for outgoing.. need authuser parameter?
Hi,
I have access to two providers. On one of them the authuser is the same as
the username, so outgoing works. On the other one I can only get
incoming -
what ever combination I try for outgoing I get an error. The register
command
has the ability to specify both usernames (which is why incoming works) but
outgoing doesn't seem to, and without that I'm stuck.
They are defined as:

Caller ID with BT CD50
Hi All,
Having searched the archives, I can see there has been much discussion
at various points regarding capture of caller id information from good
old BT.
If I understand correctly, it seems that not only do the drivers not
currently support it, but my X101P possibly/probably can't do it anyway
due to hardware?
So, that leaves me with the modem route, which seems more and more
unlikely,

e164.org
So I just saw this VoIP-centric article at slashdot
(http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/05/22/1840220) which mentions
e164.org. It's a "non-profit public DNS root designed to map phone numbers
to Internet protocols." Is anyone on this list actually using this?
They have asterisk config instructions:

I wonder if someone can help me understand

Maybe get something like Zimbra, such solutions also have support that
you can buy when you need it or don't have time (I guess).

You need SPF and DKIM for your outgoing email to be accepted.
My idea of a secure email server is to use submission port 587. Expose port 25 to the world and aggressively filter all remaining email ports with a firewall. And I mean aggressive. Geographically filter so only countries where youe users reside can send and retrieve email. Block major hosting IP space.
How many users will be on the

Looking for a guide to collect all e-mail from the ISP mail server
Hello R,
Your goal does not sound weird. The most painless way might be to fetch
incoming messages from the ISP's IMAP and deliver them to your local
dovecot. A shortened fetchmailrc would read:
poll remote.server ?
user ?, password ?
folder 'INBOX'
fetchall
idle
ssl
mda "HOME=%T /usr/bin/sudo -u %T /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver"
That way your users can create

R: Configure asterisk for outgoing.. need authuser parameter?
Hi Tony,
Try adding "fromuser=xxxxx", maybe "username=xxxx" isn't enough... Just a guess, it already solved a few problems for me.

Bug#489172: logcheck: please add Auto-Submitted header field to mailouts
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.54
Severity: wishlist
Please add the header "Auto-Submitted: auto-generated" to mails
generated by logcheck. This header should be supported by many email
autoresponders and should prevent the need to set up logcheck specific
rules for "vacation"-type autoresponders.
Headers can be added in mail using the -a switch, e.g.
mail -a

ztdummy - how to test?
I've modified ztdummy to work under 2.6 (basically ditched all the uhci stuff
and added a kernel timer instead).
How do I test my changes are doing anything useful? zttest gives:
--- Results after 14 passes ---
Best: 99.975586 -- Worst: 99.975586
Is that good/bad/terrible...?

Default caller ID
Hi,
I've been looking at the problem of the default caller ID. When a call
comes in with no CID or witheld it's always set to 'asterisk' which is
what the phone displays. I've been looking for an option to change that.
The only place I can find is DEFAULT_CALLERID in chan_sip.c. This is
set by the 'callerid' option in the sip.conf.
However the documentation

Why don't you configure all stuff internally and ask your provider to
relay the e-mails from and to you via "smart relay"?? You will
communicate only via smtp and only with your provider, and you can use a
nice open-source bundle ( dovecot is mandatory because you wrote on that
list :) ) in your LAN.
