CentOS newbie just saying hello
Hi folks, Just a quick hello having installed CentOS on my first box - an Acer Altos G310 (P4 2.8GHz, 768MB RAM with 70GB + 300GB storage. The 300GB unit is a SATA disk which I hope to software (hardware!?) mirror - if I'm in for any major fun mirroring a SATA drive do let me know now - I think hardware mirroring is not an option (yet!?) but I haven't checked this out completely. OT: P4 Vs Xeon for Linux
I have just had delivered a new HP Proliant server and it is based on an Intel Xeon 2.8GHz processor. On site already we have an Acer Altos G310 with a P4 2.8GHz processor. The new HP server was destined for another site with about 30 persons to service some simple file and print sharing and to manage their email (postfix + MailScanner). The Acer is hosting our Intranet, file and print sharing

Samba backup and restore with LDAP
Hi I have a problem with a production server (Acer Altos G5350) SLE9 SP3 with Samba 3.0.20b-3.4). It provides shares for about 15 Windows workstations. I purchased it with an Adaptec Hostraid a320 controller (using two 146mb Seatgate drives mirrored with Hostraid) but slowly realising that getting up tod ate kernel supported drivers for these cards is near impossible. When I installed SLE9 it

Intel 875P/ICH5 motherboard chipset
Does anyone know if support for the Intel 875P/ICH5 motherboard chipset has yet made it into the stable branch? (Is release 4.9 likely to have it?) I am mainly interested in the IDE and "native" serial ATA devices. There is also a new Intel ethernet controller chip, 82547EI, that is designed to interface directly with the 875P chip. The currently supported chip list only goes up to

6.2 install fails on HP 6200pro (Intel Q65X chipset).
CentOS 5.6 x64 installs successfully on HP 6200pro SFF box with Intel Q65X Express chipset (including HD graphics), Core i5 and added NVS300 graphics card. Actually, it works great. HP lists "RedHat Enterprise x64" as a supported OS. The 6200pro is a "business desktop" that became available in early summer 2011. CentOS 6.2 x64 install halts during initial boot, with boot

Prog running in Wine OK but needs Alt+F10 to maximise.
Hi I've got 'WriteOutloud' (talking wordprocessor for dyslexic children) working pretty well on an Asus Eeepc (Xandros) and on an Acer Aspire One (Kuki Linux) I'm using Wine 1.0.1 on both machines. What happens is that the prog starts up normally then immediately minimises to the taskbar. To make it run fullscreen you have to click on it and press Alt+F10 Although not a serious

LM with summation function
Hi all, I'm trying to model some data where the y is defined by y = summation[1 to 50] B1 * x + B2 * x^2 + B3 * x^3 Hopefully that reads clearly for email. Anyway, if it wasn't for the summation, I know I would do it like this lm(y ~ x + x2 + x3) Where x2 and x3 are x^2 and x^3. However, since each value of x is related to the previous values of x, I don't know how to do this.

package Rgraphviz or similar
Hello R users I am looking for a package to visualize "relatively planar" directed graphs, with say 100 nodes and specified using an adjacency list. 'Rgraphviz', currently listed on the R-FAQ, seemed suitable (FAQ version 2.9.2009-06-05) But when I looked for the package, I found it had been recently "removed" and was instead directed to archive copies

Modified metaflac add --output-json
Hi, I modified the metaflac program to output in JSON format if the --output-json switch is used, and made a simple Go program to demonstrate use of the output. I imported the MIT licensed json-c library into src/share/json-c and put headers in include/share/json-c. For example, # metaflac --output-json --list myfile.flac example output: https://gist.github.com/waitman/847a8cae4a650a8898ee If

[PATCH] drm/nouveau/fbcon: fix deadlock with FBIOPUT_CON2FBMAP
The FBIOPUT_CON2FBMAP ioctl takes a console_lock(). When this is called while nouveau was runtime suspended, a deadlock would occur due to nouveau_fbcon_set_suspend also trying to obtain console_lock(). Fix this by delaying the drm_fb_helper_set_suspend call. Based on the i915 code (which was done for performance reasons though). Cc: Chris Wilson <chris at chris-wilson.co.uk> Cc: Daniel

reading folder structure on server with Rails - possible?
I''m building an extranet which has project folders allocated for each client and client project on a webserver. I''m hoping to be able to read a directory''s content if I give it a path like "/clients/[CLIENTNAME]/[PROJECTNAME]" (where /clients/.. would reside inside the rails public folder I guess) preferably recursively so it will read the contents of any

ISDN-30 in UK
Hi, I've just been made aware of Asterisk through the article on Slashdot. We're a small UK company with a ISDN-30 link to the office and a Meridian (Nortel) PBX. We're expanding and moving offices soon and I'm looking seriously at VoIP technologies. So starter for ten, can Asterisk interface in with ISDN-30 technology? I'm assuming the set-up is a server sat running
