CentOS4 ok on Dell cerc sata raid ?
Hello,
There's been a lot of talk lately about raid controllers :-)
I'm thinking about buying a Dell Poweredge with the Dell CERC SATA
RAID Controller, 64MB Cache. It'll be either a P4 or a 64bit Xeon.
Does CentOS4 recognize these controllers fine? Any extra driver needs
to be installed?
Thanks,
Francois

AIC7901 RAID320 with CENTOS4 not recognized
An INTEL Server motherboard model SE7501BR2 with an onboard Adaptec
AIC7901 controller (with HostRAID) is not being recognized by CENTOS
4.
The AIC79xx driver loads correctly, however it does not "see" the fact
that I used the HostRAID onboard software to create a RAID 1 set.
I went to the INTEL site and only found a driver for RHEL 3.0 and I
was unable to find a driver on the adaptec

SATA vs RAID5 vs VMware
Hello,
I have strange behaviour on a server that I can't get a handle on. I have a
reasonably powerful server running VMware server 1.0.4-56528. It has a RAID5
build with mdadm on 5 SATA drives. Masses of ram and 2 XEON CPUs. But it
stutters.
Example : fire up vi, press and keep finger on i. After filling 2-3 lines, the
display is stopped for 2-12 seconds. Then they continue. This

Problem with Arima HDAMA rev.G with Integrated SiliconImage Sil3114 Serial ATA 4 Ports and 1TB SATA disks. Recomendation for a cheap SATA controller for linux software raid?
Dear Everybody,
I am telling you the whole story, perhaps you can give me a better idea.
Almost 3 years ago I purchased Arima HDAMA rev. G motherboard with
integrated Silicon Image Sil3114 Serial ATA 4 Ports SATA I adapter. (
http://www.arimacorp.com/ViewProduct.asp?View=86 ) . BIOS version is
2.13.
My intention is to make a file server, using linux software raid, so I
bought 2 new shiny 1TB

Order of sata/sas raid cards
Hi.
I bought a new Adaptec 6405 card including new (much larger) SAS drives (arrays).
I need to copy content of the current SATA (old adaptec 2405) drives to the new SAS drives.
When I put the new controller into the machine, the card is seen and I can see that the kernel loads the new drives and the old drives. The problem is that the new drives are loaded as SDA and SDB, which then stops the

Cygwin, Rsync, and Raid5
Hello all!
I've got CGYWIN running on an NT4 server, which in turn allows me to run Rsync as a daemon on this system. And might I say, it works most excellently, except for one flaw. It doesn't work on my raid drive(s). I have a 56 gig NTFS RAID5 drive running off an adaptec raid-port controller card. I have two other drives in this system, a 4 gig SCSI boot drive, and 60 gig IDE

add on sata card relabeling drives, installation
Hi all.
I have a new server and am playing with the installation. (centos 6). My
onboard sata card has 6 drives attached to it,
yet the server has 8 bays. I bought a sata controller card (adaptec) and
added it to the mix, adding two more drives.
Everything works and all is accessible, but there is one annoying issue.
When installing with anaconda, the 2 drives located on the add-on sata

CentOS and Red Hat SATA drivers
Hi there --
I was going to experiment with a CentOS x86_64 install in the following manner:
One of our new dual-xeon servers is using an Adaptec SATA controller card that
has drivers available for Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 and Enterprise Linux 3.0.
I was going to create the drivers for one or the other and then attempt an
install via the linux dd command. My question is, would either of these

Offtopic: Which SAS / SATA HBA do you recommend?
Hi all,
Sorry for the offtopic question. I hope though that others on this list
or reading the archive find the answers useful too.
It seems the Adaptec 1405 4port SAS HBA I bought only works with RHEL
and SuSE through a closed source driver, and thus is quite useless :-(
I was stupid enought to think "Works with RHEL and SuSE" meant "Certified
for RHEL and SuSE, but driver in

Can't install CentOS4
Hi everyone,
My email server is running CentOS 3 and I can't upgrade it to CentOS 4
using the CD's. At first I thought it was the old Megaraid card (that's
no longer supported), so I replaced that with a new card. I've tried
ISO's from CentOS 4, 4.1 and now 4.2 which I've tested and booted in
other machines. Just not this one.
I've never had a problem like this

The NEC compatibility page at
http://www.nec.com/en/global/prod/express/linux/centos.html indicates
that the R120b2 is not certified for CentOS 7. CentOS 5 and 6, yes, but
not 7. As there are other servers

e-SATA card well supported by Linux (CentOS) with built-in drivers and that supports hot plug
Hi,
I'm looking for a good e-SATA card, preferrently one that is supported
by Linux with built-in drivers (no need to compile the modules from
the vendor), or at least that the vendor's drivers are packaged with
dkms or something similar that makes it easy on kernel upgrades.
It's essential that the card supports hot-plugging, because we want to
use it to plug backup drives and have

Port multiplier support in megaraid* module for LSI LOGIC LSI00042 PCI-X SATA II Controller?
I have tried many permutations of search terms in google and I haven't
been able to find any confirmation that the megaraid* modules in centos4
supports port multipliers/multiplexers.
Here is a link to the controller I have in mind at newegg:

I've installed CentOS4.4 (x86_64) on the system and now I'm trying to

Raid5 issues
So when I couldn't get the raid10 to work, I decided to do raid5.
Everything installed and looked good. I left it overnight to rebuild
the array, and when I came in this morning, everything was frozen. Upon
reboot, it said that 2 of the 4 devices for the raid5 array failed.
Luckily, I didn't have any data on it, but how do I know that the same
thing won't happen when I have
