PostgreSQL & SELinux problem
Hi. I just installed Centos 4. I''m pretty sure that I chose to have it install postgresql but when the system came up, it wasn''t there. No worries. I installed it from the net with ''yum''. Unfortunately, when I started it up and it tried to init the database, I got a bunch of SELinux errors: Mar 3 13:24:22 dirty kernel: audit(1109874262.006:0): avc:

Debian + Samba 3.0 + Mac OS X 10.[2-3] -> insufficient privileges
hi all, I've read trough the list and see discussions with similar problems. I've setup a file server and users can connect to it via SMB/CIFS. Windows users just happy. The problem starts with the Mac users. All Mac users are using OS X (versions 10.2,10.3). I'm vetoing several files right now, permission inheriting turned on, I've forced the create mode and directory mode to

Sendmail vs. Postfix
Hah!!! This list is just too calm and mundane. The only thing we argue about is the ''announce'' list vs. the ''user'' list. ;) So, it''s springtime! I''m seeing all the regularly scheduled ''oil'' threads on my motorcycle lists and thought "oh what the heck, lets get the ''oil'' thread going over on the CentOS

What would cause dbus-daemon to fork() bomb?
For some reason, my system (64-bit, CentOS 5.8) has started to have a strange problem: dbus-daemon fork() bombing, typically overnight. The machine has been fine for months and months. What could cause this? This is my home desktop (it is also a server on my lan: dhcp, ldap, dns, web, etc.). -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 / heller at deepsoft.com Deepwoods Software --

SuperServer 6024H-82R and Centos 3.3
I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any familiarity with this server? It uses the Super X6DH8-G2 motherboard. Currently, we've added an Adaptec 2120S Ultra320 RAID PCI Controller Card to get RAID 5 capability. The installation bombs and from what I can tell it looks like we're getting SCSI resets or the controller is going offline maybe. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

MC
I've tried to install midnight commander on centos3.1 final. No luck in installing it via yum install. When I download src.rpm from centos2 updates SRPMS I couldn't rebuild it. RPM --rebuild mc*.src.rpm didn't work (no rebuild option). What can I do then ? Best Regards Cooba

NetworkWorld article on Open Source Telephony
An interesting article for those needing ammunition to sell Asterisk within their organisation or to others: "Is open source IP telephony ready for prime time? Yes" by Zenas Hutcheson, St. Paul Venture Capital Network World, 06/07/04 http://www.nwfusion.com/columnists/2004/0607faceoffyes.html On a related note, they also have an article arguing the contrary position (see link within

[centos 3.4] e1000 and installation problem
Hello, I install Centos'es from PXE, with vmlinuz and initrd provided by images/pxeboot from the first CD of centos 3.4. The server is a PowerEdge 1850 with two integrated e1000 nic interfaces. So kernel is booting, then it comes to the screen which ask for one nic to do a dhcp query. I choose eth0, dhcp server reply well and then i get an ip address, dns'es, etc. And nothing else

Guide to stripping Centos 3
I responded to a post in the Dell poweredge mailing list earlier today. My answer was off the top of my head, with a bit of experimentation. The content may be useful in the Cenyos context as well to admin's looking to strip the size of an install to the bare bones. Comment welcomed. Can anyone see any packages which I have missed? -- Russ Herrold ---------- Forwarded message

Newbie Questions - Yum, etc.
Hi All: My name is Peter J. Mignone and I have a little Linux experience. From what I have read about CentOS, it appears very interesting so I am trying it out. I get a header.info error when I tried yum which I have never used. How do you set up yum? Where do you point it, etc.? If my understanding is correct about the licensing, I should turn off anything pertaining to the Red Hat Network.

public-key ?
Hi, I'm not a crypto expert, so after reading this interview with Bruce Schneier ( http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/324 ) I'm wondering if OpenSSH has the same problem he talks about, that is one public-key algorithm. Doesn't OpenSSH use RSA, DSA, and DH ? Also, is there any plan to include those new NSA standards based on ECC ?
