MeetMe hardware dimensioning
Hi all.
What is the best hardware configuration to handle this following
scenario?
- 4 IVR menu with conference applications for each option;
- Only SIP/g711 user access
- 3500 simultaneous users(800 at the beginning)
- No ZAP channels
Where is the most important point of failure? CPU? Ethernet? RAM?
Im planning to separate in three servers:

Juan,
I am running a Calling Card application on a
Dell PowerEdge 2850 with Asterisk 1.0.7.
Recording conversations I have seen on my server
causes the processors to burn more than necessary
so I would recommend what William from Signate
recommended:
" Consider saving recorded calls in a database on a
separate server. It will be simpler to build a
retrieval interface that does not

Asterisk to Cisco Unity
Hi all, first post. My company's office in the UK is soon going to get a
Cisco VoIP solution system. What I am interested in, and couldn't find
googling, is if it is possible to connect an Asterisk solution to the
Cisco system and have all the nice advantages of it (mainly calling the
extensions and directly reach the other office).
Thanks, have a nice day

Asterisk server with remote monitoring capabilities
Hello, all.
I'm tired of having to drive out to the colocation
facility each time my dedicated asterisk server craps
out, just to press the button to do a hard reboot.
(I'm running 1.05 stable at present, no telephony
hardware, as this is mainly a system that receives
calls, no dial-out ability is needed.)
I've been looking at the fancy xeon-based systems
listed on ebay for a couple

Overhead Paging Systems...
Hey all,
I know you all saw the topic and let out a groan. However, I understand
how to get an overhead paging system to work with respect *, however I am
now looking for a small(?) paging amp, that I could hook 3 or 4 horns to.
I would like to just have the * extention be routed to a soundcard and out
an output, so I would like an amp that is voice signal activated.
Has anyone found anything

FXS or VOIP
Hi
I am setting up a phone system for a small office.
The office will have 5-8 phones and a fax line.
There are 4 hunt lines coming into the office.
We have made no hardware purchase yet.
Being an asterisk newbie, before I suscribed to this list I just
assumed that I would buy voip phones and connect
all the phones to a private ethernet network.
However, I see many people inquiring about FXS

quad t1 / 1U rack server combos
It is amazing to me at this point that there is not an official Digium
list of supported servers (including 1u models!). Clearly the number 1
issue with the Digium PRI cards is the server that they are used in.
The new cards even go as far as listing server that DO NOT work on the
Digium site!
The wiki references are old and do not have any testing parameters.
C'mon guys! Certify a

Seeking Volunteers for an Intro to Asterisk Course
Our company, Signate, is going to be offering a three day introductory
Asterisk training course, the first of a series.
The first class will be in San Francisco the week of June 28. It will be a
beta test to get the kinks out and we will not charge for the class or the
materials. Anyone who attends is responsible for their own travel and
lodging, if necessary.
I doubt anyone reading the lsit

Asterisk's MultiProcessor Ability
We have asterisk running on a quad processor dell. The kernel has been
compiled with SMP.
However, asterisk seems to only use 1 processor. 3 of the 4 always stay at
100% idle.
Is it pointless to have a multi-proc machine? I was going to buy a new dual
3.6Ghz Xeon server but if nothing will take advantage of the other proc...
Perhaps my conception of multi-proc/threaded is warped. If asterisk is

5,000 concurrent calls system rollout question
Hi,
we are currently considering different options for rolling out a large scale IP PBX to handle around 3,000 + concurrent calls.
Can this be done with Asterisk? Has it been done before?
I really would like an input on this.
Thanks!

RE: 5, 000 concurrent calls system rolloutquestion
I don't think they are doing it with one Asterisk box. They did say "one rack of servers". Well, that might mean up to 50 computers if they are using blade servers.

Using Realtime queues and queue members
Hello,
We are about to attempt implementing realtime queues using Asterisk
Business Edition and are wondering if anyone has had any experiences or
recommendations /warnings with using this feature.
One issue we're trying to decide on is if we should have a MySQL server
running on the Asterisk server or a remote server to house the
database/tables for the queue settings/members. The concerns

Three (quick?) questions...
[Please excuse if this is a repeat; I initially tried to send it from a
different account, and it's been held up for a couple of days awaiting
moderation.]
1) What's the absolute minimum required (hardware-wise) in order to get one
in-bound POTS line into Asterisk, and then have IP phones "inside?"
[In other words, I obviously need a NIC -- but what would be the

Thoughts on building a Voicemail only Asterisk server?
Hello List -
I've done some reading on voip-info regarding hardware requirements for an
Asterisk server; but I haven't been able to find anyone doing what we plan
to, so I am hoping you can assist.
We are looking to provide a voice mail only Asterisk solution for approx.

Cisco 79xx XML Apps (was: Re: Cisco Directory Format)
Do you know where to find clear developers' guides (with some examples)
for developing apps that run *on* Cisco 79xx phones (especially the
7970)? Examples that can run against Asterisk (not CallManager) with SIP
firmware (not SCCP), and/or LDAP directories (or other open servers)
would be best.

I was wondering if anyone had any problems with the Dell 1800 series

lot of the dells.
Please let me know

listening to gsm files
Hello list,
I am having trouble listening to GSM files created by Asterisk using a
browser. I am noticing that some of my users succeed in listening to them
and some others don't. I guess it is something of a codec problem that
does not seem to be installed on all machines (though they are all WinXP).
Anybody knows what one should do to listen to GSM files?
I send files through the

TDM2400
I have one TDM2404E digium card on asterisk box, after configuring the
zaptel and zapata configuration files, I am getting these errors when
reloading asterisk:
ast_unregister_indication_country: Removed default indication country 'us'
setup_zap: Ignoring signalling
setup_zap: Ignoring answeronpolarityswitch
unable to recognize channel 13-5
what is the reason for that?
Thanks,

RE: 5, 000 concurrent calls system rollout question
Isn't it ridiculous that Hammer charges an arm and a leg for any work they do. For systems as large as that one, we just setup a seperate one, connect them back to back and run automated script to burn it in.
