CW options not changing
I have a weird issue with a system, running freepbx in devices and users mode (same as dozens of systems) but this one when you hit *70 and get "call waiting activated" it is not storing the setting in the database. I can manually set CW 900 ENABLED but then *71 does not disable it. Any suggestions? Kerry Garrison Director of Technical Services Tech Data Pros - Orange County's

Realtime / SIP Peers etc
Ready to scream here.. 1. After 6 months with Asterisk I'm STILL trying to understand the difference between a SIP user, friend and peer. 2. Exactly what resource does Asterisk use to send MWI to registered phones? I thought it was astdb? 3. It looks like it isn't astdb. It looks like it will only send MWI to a phone if it shows up in 'sip show peers'. 4. WHY then does a reload

How does dovecot determine users from /etc/passwd?
We're using dovecot on a help desk ticketing system. The system doesn't perform any cleanup of IMAP mailboxes so we have a regular cronjob doing this: /usr/bin/doveadm flags add -A '\Deleted' SEEN SENTBEFORE 12w && /usr/bin/doveadm expunge -A DELETED MAILBOX '*' Recently, doveadm has been reporting this: doveadm(nobody): Error: User initialization failed:

Compiling R Package on Windows
I just installed the R-patched 1.4.0 and for some reason I now have trouble compiling R packages - I could compile it a few weeks ago with R 1.4.0 released in December. This only happens if I put the --binary option in. For example: Rcmd build --binary cw returns the error: make: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/PROGRA~1/R/RW1040/src/gnuwin32' make DLLNM= \ -C C:/MyRWork/cw PKG=cw

Digital speech within 100 Hz bandwidth
HA! Just when I was getting ready to drop myself from this list, along comes a ham radio question! Shoving digital voice down a 100 Hz pipe would be mighty darned tough/impossible. N0YMV has a good suggestion. Try those WSJT modes. They use narrow bandwidth and are fun to play with. There are documented instances where moon-bounce QSOs have been completed with these modes. No, it's

replace astdb with a cluster-capable sql database engine (was: Re: asterisk-users Digest, Vol 44, Issue 22)
unix-odbc with Asterisk Realtime is one good way to use a different backend DB than MySQL. I haven't heard of "bit rot" problems running it over long times, but I'd like to if there are any. I'm particularly interested in seeing reports of Asterisk Realtime backed by Postgres. The problem with pointing dialplan DB functions like Set(DB) at unix-odbc (or any relational

Reading/Writing the Astdb
All; I have a question regarding the Astdb. When reading more than a few values, it can take quite a while to grab several values in the astdb using say, asterisk -rx "database show" > output.txt and work with that and then set a new value such as asterisk -rx "database put $key $value". The whole process can take over 1 second for EACH ENTRY which adds up for more than a
