overzealous help-links.sh script! (PR#1682)
Starting html help in the current version of R has a very annoying side-effect. It indiscriminantly removes $HOME/.R, and replaces it with a virgin copy. I discovered that when all of a sudden I got complaints about my startup "library" not being found. Below is a modified version of the script that doesn't do this. It is not perfect yet (it shouldn't try to recreate links

indexing
Don't know if this is useful to anyone, but here's a "poor man's" solution I came up with to the CRAN indexing problem ... not as good as having a full-text web link, but it does have some advantages. (1) it's already done. (2) it's relatively easy to download and store this information off-line, and to update it periodically. (3) it doesn't (now) require any

how to "singlify" entries
hi netters I have a rather simple question. I have a data frame with two variables X and Y, both of which are factors. X has 100 levels while Y has 10 levels only. The data frame has 100 rows in all, so for X the values are unique, and Y has many replicate values. Now I wanna reduce the data frame into 10 rows only, according to the 10 levels of Y. I don't care which value of X is in

Error in clusterApply(): recursive default argument reference
Hi, I want to compute a distribution of the intersection of a graph and 'randomized' graphs induced by the permutations of node labels (to preserve the graph topology). Since I ll have many permutations to perform, I was thinking of using the snow package and in particular "parSapply" to divide the work between my 4 CPUs. But I get the following error message : Error in

ecdf with lots of ties is inefficient (PR#7292)
Full_Name: Martin Frith Version: R-2.0.0 OS: linux-gnu Submission from: (NULL) (134.160.83.73) I have large vectors containing 100,000 to 20,000,000 numbers. However, they only contain a few hundred *distinct* numbers (e.g. positive integers < 200). When I do ecdf(v), it either runs out of memory, or it succeeds, but when I plot the ecdf with postscript, the output is unnecessarily bloated

In base R: argument `list` does not accept lists

heatmap not symmetric ?
Dear list, I hope it is not a FAQ, but I searched the archives and Google, and found nothing. The question is simple : I do not understand why, starting from a symmetrical correlation matrix, heatmap produces an asymmetrical image. mirrorlist returns wrong servers
Hi, We're using CentOS on various servers in Japan. Recently, I found that mirrorlist.centos.org returns servers in China. It makes "yum update" slow. This problem occurs on "update" repo. Our tries and results are follows: ## "os" repository $ curl "http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=6.5&arch=x86_64&repo=os"

Issues/thoughts re CentOS-4
This is a list of issues for discussion for CentOS-4. Most of it is based on my experience from building/maintaining CentOS-2 and observing CentOS-3. I have not seen the CentOS-4 beta yet so I don't know if any of this is already done. If these have been discussed on IRC then perhaps someone could produce a shot summary of the outcomes....? * Just call it CentOS-4 not 4.1 etc. Too
