Questions about S4 style methods and generics
I have some questions about S4 style methods and generics.
First of all, is there any way of using default values for arguments
in the generics/methods? My own experiments show that such arguments
are always ignored. The green book seems to be silent on this
matter.
The second question is about using a non-trivial function body for
generics. Page 351 of the green book gives an example of this

try-error in batch and interactive mode (PR#1934)
I have a tiny R script performing two tasks, the first one of which may
contain error.
mammon(12)% cat z.R
version
options(show.error.messages = FALSE)
try(b <- log("foo")) ## task 1
1 + 2 ## task 2
Running in batch mode from a solaries machine, the second task never got
started; see below:

OpenIPMI on a SunFire v20z
Hi all,
New to the list and (mostly) new to CentOS. We have just moved from
running RHEL to CentOS on our main production servers.
Anyway, I am configuring a couple of new SunFire v20z servers here at
the moment and trying to get the systems' management interfaces to work
fully under CentOS.
First issue was trying to install the openipmi RPM from the CD that came
with the SunFires, this RPM

Folding ?
Hi,
I need to write a function that would look something like this:
S <- function(b=betas){
expression(b[1] * f(b[2] * x * f(b[3] * x * f(...b[n-1] * x * f(b[n] *
x)))...)
}
Where n is the number of element in b.
Further I need to be able to evaluate S at some x numerically of course and
I need to use "deriv" and produce dS/dx such that I can evaluate it also at
some x.

Simulation of recurrent events
I'd like to program a simulation of recurrent events to test few models in
R. Is there anybody who has experience of that and could give me advice?
Your help is greatly appreciated!

glm and Newey-West estimator
Dear R-users,
has anybody combined the glm function with the Newey-West estimator of
variance, similar as in Stata 7.0? I'd like to estimate corrected
standard errors within a logistic regression model, taking into account
the auto-correlated binary observations within individuals.
I use R1.5.1 on Mac OS X (10.2).
Thanks,

RE: new packages: geepack and KMsurv
I downloaded geepack from your site and installed it from the zip file.
However, although it appears under my library directory, I could not load
into R.

source output differs from console output
Dear R-help,
I would like to be able to run the following code sequence as a source
routine.
If I paste it into R via the clipboard it works as expected, but if I source
the code instead then the last 3 statements fail.
I've also tried writing to the file in place of the sink sequence, but that
also hits a snag. R 1.6, w98e2, dfr is a data frame containing the content

graphical parameters and acf
Hi,
I'm plotting 5 autocorrelation plots on one page. Using
par(mfrow=c(3,2)) everything comes out fine. However, for
each plot, it prints a title on top of each plot that says
Series followed by the variable name used in the plot. I
want to suppress those titles, but I also want a general
figure title on the bottom of the page. I've looked at the
Murrell book as well as the acf

gluster client performance
Hi-
I'm new to Gluster, but am trying to get it set up on a new compute
cluster we're building. We picked Gluster for one of our cluster file
systems (we're also using Lustre for fast scratch space), but the
Gluster performance has been so bad that I think maybe we have a
configuration problem -- perhaps we're missing a tuning parameter that
would help, but I can't find

anaconda in centOS 4 fails to read md raid arrays
Has anybody encountered this problem?
I have a box that has FC2 installed. I wanted to trash the FC2
installation and install CentOS 4.
I have a pxeboot/dhcp/kickstart environment and so I tried automatic
disk partitioning (clear all partitions and then create new ones),
manual disk partitioning but everything else is automated and finally,
zero automation, just a manual installation through

A very simple question
Hi all,
My apologies for a very simple question. I just downloaded
R 2.6.0. I want to bring in all of the objects from 2.5.0
that I see when I type ls(). I have no idea how to do that.
Thanks in advance.

Anaconda-runtime and busybox-anaconda src rpms
Hi All,
does anyone here know where to get the source rpms for these two packages?
anaconda-runtime-11.1.2.168-1.el5.centos
busybox-anaconda-1.2.0-4.el5.centos
I have found the anaconda-11.1.2.168-1.el5.centos on
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/os/SRPMS
but not the others, is there a reason for this?
regards
Chad
