Can module spec use fixtures?
Good morning, dear fellows: I''d like to recall one question I posted yesterday. I am writing specs for ruby modules. Some of the modules do some data process in the test database. Because ''fixtures'' is undefined (Am I correct?) in module specs, spec of certain module (e.g. delete data form database) will affect other specs of other modules (e.g. try to access the

Can Rspec do module spec? What if module uses test data?
Dear fellows: I am currently working on writing specs on some ruby modules(e.g. myModule). At first I try to use script/generate to generate rspec_module, but it failed. :-( Later I manually created a file (e.g. named myModule_spec.rb) and put the ''require ....spec_helper.rb'' as the first line of code followed by ''describe'' block. Luckily, it seemed to

Need help in View Spec
Hello everyone: I am kind of puzzled in writing spec on view partials. I can not find much information about the "should have_tag" syntax in Rspec. Can rspec test a particular attribute of a tag (e.g. input tag)? Let me put an example here: #../view/group/_index <div id="test"> <input type="button" value="update" onclick="update()"

How to use expect_render?
Hi: I am a rspec beginner. I have scratched my head for the whole afternoon, trying to figure out a way of writing render expectation in controller spec. However, I failed. It kept telling me that the ''expect_render'' was an undefined method. I have installed rspec 1.0.8 and rspec_on_rails as well. Below is the controller to be tested. Controller def index pre

annotate_models plugin to annotate RSpec specs and fixture
I have found useful to have the table information associated to models disp?ayed in the models and fixtures files of my rails applications. If you want to add this information to the spec_fixtures and specs add the following patch to your plugin. Index: vendor/plugins/annotate_models/lib/annotate_models.rb =================================================================== ---

rspec fixtures stay in the test db - is this right?
I have some fixtures set up to put a few records in some of my tables. In some of my rspec describe blocks, i''m *not* calling the fixtures, and expecting the tables to be empty. But they''re not - the fixture data is in there. Am i using fixtures wrongly? I thought that the db was wiped at the start of every test and the fixtures were only added if asked for. Is that not the

Can not ''assigns'' value in View test
Hello everyone: I am quit new to View test using rspec. I want to write spec for a partial, which is rendered by a controller. However, the controller does not pass data to the partial using instance variables, it uses symbol variable instead. I read the example of view spec provided in the website. But the example is using instance variable. So I am looking for a way of assigning my test data

Accessing fixture
I have a very simple problem. I can''t seem to access a the fixture by name I have a sites.yml with: simple_site: id: 1 name: demo description: A demo site created_on: 2005-10-25 00:00:00 updated_on: 2005-10-25 00:00:00 And I have a test class as: require File.dirname(__FILE__) + ''/../test_helper'' class SiteTest < Test::Unit::TestCase fixtures

leftover fixture data causing errors
Maybe I''m not getting fixtures, but... I''m having problems as I start using fixtures in functional tests. Data is left in my test database after running functional tests. Not the data created by the test-method (I''m using transactional fixtures), but data from the fixtures themselves. Fixture loading will delete & reload the data again when the test is re-run, but

Test fixture syntax
OK, I know I''m doing something bone-headed, but I can''t for the life of me figure it out. I''ve read the test fixtures Rdoc about eight dozen times, and it says (to me) that if I have a YAML fixture file, dogs.yml that looks like this: fido: id: 1 breed: Terrier fifi: id: 2 breed: Poodle Then I can include fixtures :dogs in my functional test, and

create and destroy fixture manually in method
Hi, My test case has two fixtures and eight methods. But one of the eight methods need one more fixture. How do I solve this? Okay, I put the additional fixture in common place so every method has additional access to the additional fixture. The problem is the additional fixture depend on that two fixtures (foreign key). When I run the test, it complains something like this:

fixture problem, TypeError: nil is not a symbol
When I run rake against Rails 8.5 to test unaltered model tests with yaml fixtures I get the error and stack trace reproduced below for every one of my model objects. Has anyone seen something this before? Any idea what could be going on here? The following ruby-talk thread may or may not be relevant: http://blade.nagaokaut.ac.jp/cgi-bin/scat.rb/ruby/ruby-talk/95301. Thanks much,

My first test - named fixture not autoloading instance variable
I''m trying to write a test like the one at the bottom of page 148 in Agile Rails. I''m using rails 1.0 I''ve created the fixture correctly I''m pretty sure because the test database table is being populated per the fixture. I have what I think is a simple unit test: ========= require File.dirname(__FILE__) + ''/../test_helper'' class CaseTest

An easy one: Accessing fixture data in 1.0+
OK, we all know that Rails turned off instantiated fixtures by default in 1.0. That''s not a problem. However, what I''m now wondering is how to access the raw fixture data out of the YML file (as opposed to the database.) Mainly, for comparing my database results with my expected results in a DRY way. The book says if you have the command "fixtures :foo", that

Rspec not loading fixtures
I am taking over a code base and am trying to run the tests. I am somewhat new to RSpec so this might be a trivial problem. Basically I can tell that the fixtures are not getting loaded. All 100 tests fail with a similar error. But I don''t know why. Below is the code, with my narrative with *** before it... Can you see anything or give me a clue where to look. So far I am coming up

Agile Web Dev unit test fails with fixture instance variable
I''m following Agile Edition 1. On page 148 it suggests using instance variables named after the fixture, for example: assert_equal @version_control_book.id, @product.id When I introduce this type of instance variable into my test, I get the following error: 1) Error: test_not_owner(GroupTest): RuntimeError: Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the

Locating an arbitrary fixture...
Is there a good way to get an arbitrary fixture from the generated fixture function? I need a way to get one of my fixtures, I don''t care which one. It doesn''t need to be random and could always return the same fixture. This is part of a support function for custom assertions and it doesn''t know what class its working on, let alone what fixture names are possible.

Fixture accessors broken for polymorphism, in need of redesign
Ticket 4052 (http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/4052) just came through trac, which introduces the need for a better way to access fixtures. I believe the basic problem is the same as 3935 (http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/3935) in that the accessor method which is constructed by the fixture call can''t infer the class name from the table name. The band-aid in 3935 was to allow you to

load fixtures
I''m finally getting beyond using basic test fixtures, and a few questions have popped up. Has anyone found ways to do these? 1. Use a test fixture that is named differently from its table name? We''d like to have more than one possible fixture per table. (Or perhaps use test fixtures named similarly but in different directories.) 2. Load a test fixture for one test method only

Running a single fixture.
Hello. I need to run a single fixture on my server as part of an update to my application. I noticed that the other tables lost their data when I run "rake db:fixtures:load". How do I make it so that only a single fixture runs and ignores the rest?
