Test::Unit to RSpec
So I''ve just started working on a rails project which currently has something like 7500 LOC. All of the tests are written in Test::Unit, although the test coverage is pretty poor: rcov says that 25% of the code is covered, while rake stats shows the code to test ratio as 1:0.1 (800 lines of test code). I guess I''m wondering what would generally be advisable here. Is it

How do I pass form values from POST controller specs?
Hi there I just started my first Merb app and I''m running into some weird things in Specs. When I do: describe "create action" do it "should create a new project" do project_params = {:name => ''bekkunin''} Project.should_receive(:create).with(project_params) controller, action = post(''/projects'', :project

Trying to use ActiveRecord STI but fails
Hi all, I''m wondering about my sanity here. There''s probably something simple I overlooked. First off, I have close to zero experience with Merb. 1. I configured use_orm :activerecord in config/dependencies.rb; 2. I have a file named app/models/measurement.rb which looks like this: class Measurement < Observation end 3. I have another file named

RSpec and acts_as_attachment
Hey guys, I''m getting a weird error when trying to test something like the following. It''s a model that is using acts_as_attachment but the weird thing is the equivalent Test::Unit case passes. Does anyone have any ideas? Best, Dave # it was a Test::Unit case first def test_should_be_invalid_without_file UserFile.any_instance.expects(:with_image).never

Back to ruby2ruby?
Hello guys. I missed a lot of the development before 0.4 got out (btw, excellent work!). I checkout last night the merb-trunk code and run the specs, found that everything passes with 1 pending, but no errors or failures about missing ruby2ruby. There is a ticket (#274)[1] that discuss this, but I remember we discussed this back in September about depending on RubyInline... Also, the merb gem

Camping and ruby2ruby
Hi everybody, I would like to use ruby2ruby in a caming project, but there seems to be an incompatibility with camping, ruby2ruby and markaby. Unfortunately I receive strange Markaby::InvalidXhtmlErrors. To demonstrate, that only combination of all three components causes the problem I added the following code. I relies on Markaby and ruby2ruby only and works fine (a.k.a. as expected).

puppet doc questions
Does puppet doc require a specific version of any gems (such as rdoc or rake) to operate? I''m getting some errors when I try to generate my rdoc now. # puppet doc --output /var/www/test --modulepath /etc/puppet/environments/test/modules -m rdoc RDoc::RDocError is deprecated and will be removed in RDoc 4 Could not generate documentation: uninitialized constant RDoc::RDoc::Generator

OT local version control?
Hi, all, This isn''t about rspec, but this list has people whose opinions I respect. So, I''m looking for a new version control system for my local development. I was going to install subversion, but I''ve heard rumors of people using some newer ones. Thoughts? I''d like to be able to run it either locally or on a home server. If I run it off a home server, then

Comparison between RSpec and test/unit
I''m curious, Christian Neukirchen has released test/unit[1] that seems to mirror much of RSpec, but built on Test::Unit, so in some ways less brittle from a Rails-integration perspective, and also allowing you to mix the two together as appropriate. So, has anyone made an informed comparison? I''m new enough that I don''t really know the finer points yet. The syntax is

Edge rspec - running Test::Unit tests
With rspec 1.0.8 I can run Test::Unit tests and rspec tests using: rake default and all tests and specs run. With edge rspec the Test::Unit tests return with the message: [list of tests] Finished in 4.5e-05 seconds 0 examples, 0 failures How can I get Test::Unit and rspec to happily co-exist again? Thanks, Alvin

Using unit_record and rspec (previously "Keeping unit tests from hitting the DB")
Back in August David Chelimsky wrote: "FYI - I tried using the unit_record gem and there are some changes required in rspec to make it work, but they are trivial and it works great. The only trick is that the prevention of DB access is global per process, so you''d have to separate examples that hit the DB from those that don''t into two separate suites. I''ll explore

A Proposal To Magically Remove ''params''
I have a magical proposal for the anti-magic web framework. Controller methods do not use arguments and yet expect arguments. This is handled through this params hash because we don''t know in advance what parameters a client could pass to Merb. But in almost every instance, it is too much to know all the query parameters - one doesn''t care if the user threw in an extraneous

New to "Agile Development" - should I use RSpec or Test::Unit?
Hi everyone, I''m just now really starting to look into Agile Development, and so I''m trying to gauge what the Rails community''s preference is in regards to using RSpec versus the built-in Test::Unit. I haven''t really delved much into testing in the past, I''m sad to say, but I understand why it''s beneficial to writing maintainable code and

Rack, Camping 2.0++
=== 1. Camping on Rack === I''ve just finished rewriting Camping to use Rack in the "core". I got rid of (a little less) than 1kB in camping.rb and removed lots of un-necessary files (lib/server/*.rb, fastcgi.rb & mongrel.rb). bin/camping does now only provide WEBrick, Mongrel and console-support and should only be used in development. It uses Rack::ShowExceptions to catch
