Problems joining Samba toa w2000 AD PDC
Hi,
I have this (Linux) Samba file server, that indeed is a client of a
Windows 2000 Server PDC, using Active Directory.
I am the Samba machine admin, but not the Windows one.
I have to join the Samba machine to the PDC on the 2000 server.
I ask the Windows 2000 server admin to come to my Samba machine and
insert his login and password to join my machine, but i always get the
same error

Yam not generating repomd.xml
I think I have obeyed the docs. Metadata in yam conf says repomd
(formerly createrepo but led to "unexisting --update option" message).
Conf is otherwise pretty close to examples. I have downloaded Centos
4.4 ISOs, I have done yam -gv, ISO files are correctly mounted and
published via HTTP, etc but no xml files are generated anywhere under
/var/www/yam. What am I overlooking? Can I have

yam help
I am trying to use yam to create a repo based on the 4.4 CDs. I have
copied the contents of the CDs to /var/dist/CentOS-4.4-i386. No
matter what I try, yam always creates an emtpy repo.
This is my current yam.conf file:

wwwdir = /var/www/yam

Directory too difficult?
I have a group of users whos complaint about Asterisk is that the directory
application is too hard too use. (yeah, yeah, I know. For the record,
they're Calgarians) Now I'm in a pickle: I don't want to have to create a
custom directory for these guys. Anyone have any tips for making the
directory easier, maybe re-record the prompts so they are more verbose? We
go by first name.

Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
I'm using Samba 3.0.3 on Fedora Core 2 with OpenLDAP 2.1.29 for a
backend. I'm getting to typical "The user name could not be found."
error upon trying to join a Windows box. I've gone through every digest
on lists.samba.org and other sites and nothing has worked yet. Any
suggestions:
Here's what I've done so far:
1. Installed everything via RPMS:

Re: Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
After, oh, six months of attempts here and there to read everyone's
experiences with Samba/LDAP and inability for a windows 2000/XP machine
to join the domain, I finally discovered what was not working properly.
In my smb.conf I put:
add machine script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u"
As instructed by many How-to's and Idealx. However, I thought to myself,

local yum repository
bit off topic, but....
I've set up my first Centos gateway server and now
setting up another server on internal network.
I thought it would be nice to use the gateway servers
"/var/cache/yum" as a local repository for any internal servers
since it would be up to date with the lastest packages and save
bandwidth.
So... I created a sym link to create a repository through
gateways

app_conference DTMFs?
We need to conference together a call center agent, a customer and a third
party IVR and send DTMF tones from the agent to the IVR.
MeetMe has been eating our DTMFs so we'd like to try app_conference.
Has anybody setup such a configuration in app_conference and how did you
configure it?

Attempting custom CentOS4 network install
Hi
I am installing CentOS4 over ether network using http and kickstart. I boot from
the first CentOS CD and at "boot:" prompt I input
"ks=http://localserver/install/custom.cfg". Except for minor glitches like
"Kernel-Development group not found" warning, the process is smooth and is
almost completely automated.
Now, I want to add additional RPMS to the CentOS/RPMS

mysql-server installing...or not`
Hi all,
I've got a clean CentOS 5.1 install and need php/mysql support. Seems
mysql (client) is installed, but I need server, so I did
yum install mysql-server
and got the errors posted below.
Have I missed something or is there a problem with this package?
(actually I should ask do I need this package - I believe I do, but I've
been wrong before - as recently as today :) )

data structure problem
HI, there,
I have a data set with special structure.
It is in n*(5*p): n is the number of observations or data points
5*p is the matrix for each data point
I'd like to conduct discriminant analysis to this data set. How could I
do? And where could I find related references to solve this problem?
Thanks a lot!

Syslinux patch
Out of necessity, a friend of mine and I have created a patch for
syslinux to allow it to modify the mbr and partition table in windows.
It adds a -m option to syslinux. If given, it will overwrite the MBR of
the drive specified with the mbr.bin provided in syslinux, and if the
bootable flag is not set on the partition being syslinuxed, it will set
it. This was done to distribute with my USB

optim function : "BFGS" vs "L-BFGS-B"
Dear kind R-experts.
Does anybody have an experience to use optim function?
If yes, what is the main difference between two method "BFGS" vs
"L-BFGS-B"?
I used "BFGS" method and got what I wanted. But when I used "L-BFGS-B"
the error message said that "L-BFGS-B needs finite values of fn". So
that means
"BFGS" method can handle even if fn

How to assign a rank to a range of values..
>From the following:
basin.map <- readAsciiGrid("c:/temp/area.asc", colname="area")
I have a SpatialGridDataFrame which has the x and y cordinate of a cell, and
the drainage area of that cell. There are many cells with a low drainage
area (in my case, 33000 with an area of 37.16) and one cell with the highest
drainage area (again, in my case, a drainage area of of
