libvirt and VMWare Workstation Shared Server mode (of GSX history)
Hi everyone, I searched previous postings and I couldn't find a definitive answer on this.. I run a small lab of RHEL/Centos Based servers on which there's VMWare Workstation running on a non-standard port but still manageable by tools like VMrun (and the Fusion of Workstation GUI, of course). I'm trying to use virsh with this setup and getting the following error from both

virsh : Need help to manage a vm on a remote vmWare
Hello, I'm trying to use the tool virsh of libvirt. I want to manage via CLI a vm on a vmware hypervisor which is hosted on a remote host (Is that what you call the node??). I read a lot of thing on your site but I really don't understand how to do something... I saw that: >virsh edit $your-vm-name I think "$your-vm-name" is the xml file you're talking about? Is it

Vmware - Slightly off topic
Hi All, What is the correct way to provide a CentOS 7 - WMware image for ESX ? As an amateur to VMware - I thought - great I can get VMplayer and ESX should be able to import my image... Wrong... I even went through the trouble of "converting" to VMWare workstation and thinking ESX could import that - Apparently still Wrong... I cannot for the life of me understand how one product

Server Virtualization
Hello, I work for a school in a New Zealand university and we are wanting to implement Server Virtualization for both CentOS and Windows systems. So I thought I would ask here what experience people have had with this and what issues that you all think should be considered? From my own research it seems that VMWare or Xen are really the two major products to be considered, are there any

VMWare GSX Server and CentOS
Has anyone had experience (good or bad) with VMWare GSX Server running CentOS as a VM under high load? Here is the situation. We are planning on rolling out some new boxes to replace an existing box. Currently this box (Sun V860) is running web services, database services, mail for students, and is an instructional box for compiling code, and web scripting among other things. We are planning on

yet another Asterisk and VMware question
I looked through this forum and other lists trying to get a definitive answer to the VMware question... I have a Windows 2003 Server box that is my development machine. It is fully loaded with many s/w packages, dev tools, etc. It's not very feasible to convert this box to Linux without losing an awful lot of stuff. On it, I'm running VMware GSX 3.1.0. Under VMware, I have a

VMware multi-nic performance tech note
VMware''s published a paper on ESX vs. Xen (Enterprise) multi-nic performance: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/Multi-NIC_Performance.pdf Basically, it tests network performance from a Windows 2003 guest under Xen and VMware, and compares the results. Just curious if there''s any work in progress that would improve this? I''d also love to see the test repeated with a Linux

Xen HVM images on VMware ESX
Hi everyone, I''m trying to convert some Xen HVM images to run on VMware ESX, unsuccessfully thus far. I believe the problem is that ESX by default wants the VMs to use SCSI virtual disks, but my HVM VMs are configured to use IDE virtual disks. If you have any experience with this sort of thing, please get in touch. Thanks! Diwaker -- http://floatingsun.net/

VMware and multiple vmdk files
With VMWare (server), you can pre-allocate your image in several vmdk files. But I have not bee able to mount that in guestfs. On file (e.g. guest.vmdk) is a text file pointing to all the other files (e.g. guest-f001.vmdk, guest-f002.vmdk,...). I tried the following scenarios without success: 1- just adding the base vmdk: add_drive guest.vmdk 2- adding all the files: add_drive guest-f001.vmdk

[v2v PATCH] -i libvirt: print URI without connecting
Pass (again) around the libvirt URI string in the various input_libvirt subclasses so that input_libvirt#as_options does not need to connect to print the connection URI. As related change: pass input_conn as non-optional string parameter in classes that require one (all but input_libvirt_other, basically). This avoids the need for extra checks. --- v2v/input_libvirt.ml | 10

gpxelinux.0 and slow HTTP performance on VMware ESX VM
Hi, first of all I would like to voice my deep gratitude to all syslinux developers for this really important software. I am using it in all my automation projects and could not manage without. Unfortunately now I stumbled upon a problem where I am out of my wits and need some help. The core problem is that HTTP transfers by gpxelinux.0 are very slow. Sadly this problem seems to be somehow

VMWare problems on CentOS 3.3 x86-64
Hi folks, I'm hoping someone can help with a problem I'm having getting VMWare to work on CentOS 3.3 (x86-64). I recently downloaded VMWare workstation 4.5 (not sure of exact version number but its the latest version as of yesterday). I was hoping to run CentOS as my main OS and then use VMWare to still support Windows XP machines and run the couple of applications which refuse to
