picking up a ringing extension
Hello,
We are using asterisk 0.4.0 on debian sid with Cisco 7960 and ATA186
phones.
All sip entries have:
callgroup=1
pickupgroup=1
However I am unable to remotely pickup a ringing phone using *8#. I get
fast busy tone. Is there some flag to add in extensions.conf ?
Thanks in advance,

Asterisk and cellphone/GSM voicemailbox
Does Asterisk know when it hits a voicemailbox ?
When calling to a cell-phone or GSM, after some rings and no pickup you
arrive at a voicemailbox.
If Asterisk does not know it's a voicemailbox that has answered the
call, the voicemailbox will contain 60minutes of 'silence'. This is very
expensive 'silence'.
How to avoid this ?

Dialplan to Pick up calls that are ringing onother extensions?
Well I dont want it to operate as a group. I understand that it is *8 on most PBX systems but I would like it to work as dialing *8+extension-thats-ringing to have it go over to my extension. I am having a lot of trouble finding more information from the wiki and google.
Thanks!

Sieve "redirect" changes envelope sender in 2.3. / pigeonhole 0.5
Hi (Stephan?),
is it a new feature of dovecot 2.3 /pigeonhole 0.5 that a sieve "redirect" changes the envelope sender of
a redirected mail or simply a bug ?
A sends mail to B, B redirects to C
C sees B (not A!) as envelope sender.
It is not a problem if C gets the mail but if that mail bounces
for various reasons it goes back to B and A will never know about this.
I thick this is came

Pickup other ringing phone
Hi everyone,
Is there a simple way of answering a different ringing extension from a
sip phone using AAH?
I have absolutely zero technical know-how when it comes to modifying
conf files etc. Still working on figuring it all out. ;)
That brings me to my second question... where the hell does one find an
extensive manual of sorts that explains all conf files and what the
strings all mean etc?

replication and spam removal ("doveadm expunge")
Hello everybody,
since now I did no replication and spam is delivered into users folder "spambox"
Every night there is a cronjob which deletes spam older than 30 days via something like
"find .... -ctime +30 -delete"
Now I'm going to set up replication (two way) and I thought that
doing "rm" is not a good idea.
So I modified the job to something like

dovecot-lmtp
Hi, I'm trying to use dovecot-lmtp so that I can filter messages with
sieve, however it doesn't appear to be working.
I followed the instructions on wiki2.dovecot.org. I'm running Debian
Wheezy. I've got runit configured to execute postfix and dovecot, which
may be the source of the problem (runit executes /usr/sbin/dovecot -F).
I've got mail_debug turned on and there is

Voicemail notification email with no attachment despite attach=yes
The demo 1235 extension that Asterisk ships with works fine and the
messages are sent to the address I set in voicemail.conf. I guess that
means that my configuration is working perfectly so far.
But when I set up another extension with a voicemailbox, no mail is sent
when a message is left, although I can dial voicemail and listen to the
message just fine which I guess rules out voicemailbox

Can I soft-link a voicemailbox?
Hi there,
see subject.
I'd like to be able to use the vmbox prompt of VoiceMailMain2 and use
1234 and 4321 to point to the same mailbox. Will it be sufficient to
create a soft link for 4321 --> 1234 in /var/spool/asterisk/default or
will I get myself into horrible trouble?
Background: I like to be able to map certain functions ("boss",
"peasant",

CVS HEAD voicemailbox full error
Anyone else has problems with CVS HEAD's from today with voicemail
hanging up silently without any debug/error messages when checked?
It also keeps insisting that the user's voice mailbox is full and can't
store more messages even if I clear/rebuild the
/var/spool/asterisk/voicemail stuff.
I've tried falling back to voicemail.conf entries from realtime
voicemail with the same

asterisk practices
I just completed building a feature rich asterisk voicemail system using
perl, php, and mysql.
My only concern is that the system i built will not be able to handle the
call volume needed. Let me start by explaining my setup.
Incoming call -> route.agi (perl -> mysql lookup) -> AGI -> voicemailbox
(using mysql odbc) or terminate with wrong number message

Sieve "redirect" changes envelope sender in 2.3. / pigeonhole 0.5
OK, I found a solution:
trusted_users = exim:dovecot
in my exim.conf fixed it.
Anyway this is an important change of behavour between 2.2 und 2.3
In 2.2 the "dovecot" under exims "trusted_users" was not necessary.
