Brainstorm: Running Asterisk as cool as possible - AKA solid state.
I would like to ask what people think the best way would be to build a
low-power consumption, passively-cooled system.
For example, one could use a fanless-Eden (mini-ITX/EPIA) system, but the
loss of FPU power would limit performance. The obvious choice for FPU
work are the Intels and AMDs, nut they're all power-hungry radiators.
Is there something that can offer the quiet, power-savings of

RE: [on-asterisk] Brainstorming dual-core and Asterisk
I believe you can assign processors in vmware, and xen as well.
So you could probably do something funky like that to try to reduce
load.
The only thing that probably becomes difficult is trying to manage
physical hardware between virtual machines.

A bit of a survey: What do do if you need more than 4 C.O. lines
Folks,
In light of all the troubles people report when running more than one
TDM400 card in a system, I wouldn't mind hearing what your solution of
choice would be when having to connect 5 or more analog telco circuits
to an Asterisk.
I'll try and compile the answers together and get them into the Wiki, as
I figure this could be useful knowledge for the community.
TIA,
Jim.

Anyone know where a good source of mailing list stats might be found?
Folks,
I'm curious to know how the volume of Asterisk-Users rates as far
mailing lists go. This list sees over 200 messages per day, which has
GOT to put it in the top 5%, doesn't it? I'd love to know if anyone has
knowledge of any organization that might maintain such stats.
Regards,
Jim.

Survey: what's the best HTTPd/TFTPd/FTPd to serve up configuration files to sets
I would like to start a discussion centred around the various ways one
might serve up configuration files from an Asterisk server (I know, it's
better to use a secondary server for all this, but let's talk about a
smaller system).
The types of things being served would include:
- Logo image for sets that support that
- XML directory files
- XML or raw text configuration files

Monitoring a telco line for MWI through a TDM400 FXO
Folks,
I've tried to find a reference, but I've had no luck, and would
appreciate your thoughts:
I'd like to be able to monitor a telco line for Message Waiting
Notification, however I cannot figure out if this capability is
available.
Detecting either FSK or Stuttered Dial tone would serve, but I can't
find anything in the list archives or Wiki with clues as to how this

Soekris net4801 for home use?
I'm considering that board as a mail and voip gateway for home use.
In view of all those statements about how little resources asterisk
needs, did anybody already try running asterisk on it?
Thanks, Bruno.

brainstorm ldap type/provider
hi,
Just thinking how i could manage ldap server with puppet, using dynamic
configuration.
I would follow the next step :
In the manifest :
install required packages for ldap server
doing a ''site specific'' basic configuration, meaning pushing a custon
/etc/<ldapbasedir>/slapd.d
develop some ldap type, to tweak online the ldap server. I think this
would only be used

Brainstorm: Alpha and Beta testing of R versions
My most common problem with the bug reporting system
is distinguishing between bugs and my own stupidity
or confusion.  So I post to the r-devel list to ask;
even when there is a response, I may then
fail to get around to submitting the bug report itself ...
I know R-core doesn't want the bug list cluttered up with
non-bugs, but this two-step process often gets in the way of
my filing

Yes. The Manchines group does exist, as does adm and Administrators as
specified in /etc/smb.conf seen here:
 >>domain admin group = root Administrator @adm @Administrators @wheel
wheel does not actually exist and both users in the system belong to
adm. I have

Asterisk and USB ISDN controllers ...
Guys,
I am planning on building a small SIP PBX with a single ISDN line. Currently
I am looking into the specs of a very tiny barebone system that has an
option Colognechip base ISDN controller. The only thing is that the ISDN
module that comes with this barebone hooks up to the motherboard using USB.
My intention is to allow incoming and outgoing calls from SIP to ISDN. Is
this setup in any way

SV: Epia C3 Linux
Hello
AstLinux seems quite suited for my use.
Can you configure more incoming port via a web interface?
I'd like to install it to a "normal" hdd. Can that cause any problems?

Any interest in a Canadian Asterisk mailing list?
Just on the off chance that Canadian Asterisk users might be
interested in a place to discuss topics specific to the "great
white north" (sources, services, telcos, etc.), I created
the asterisk-canada mailing list:
    http://lists.syonex.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-canada

Asterisk in Soekris 5501: Is Astlinux the only able solution?
Hello,
i would like the forum to help or advice me if my feeling is correct or not.
Is Astlinux the only distribution able to run on Soekris 5501 hardware or
other can run also (trixbox, freepbx, o maybe a manual installation of
asterisk).
My question is easy: i'd need to install it on that hardware for a very
small office and the further administrator do not understand so much about

Soekris and Asterisk
Has anyone on the list used a Soekris engineering PC as a TDM - Ethernet
bridge? For example something like a net4801 with a TE110p in it and then
using TDMoE to get it into a bigger server where the call processing proper
will occur.
Anyone know if it might handle a quadspan card ok? (no transcoding, just
pure PRI to TDMoE bridging).

asterisk on mini-itx
Hello,
I'm trying to put together a low cost - low powers PBX appliance for several
customers. I have purchased a couple of the soekris net4801 boards and have
asterisk up and running on them fine but they just don't quite cut it in the
processing power department. I've been able to get about 10 simultaneous SIP
calls with simple ulaw (no encoding decoding). While this might be OK for
