R on Thin Client with Win 2003
I'm having some fun with R on a Windows 2003 Server talking to a Wyse Winterm running Thinstation Linux. The Winterm boots Linux from the network and then runs rdesktop to a Dell 1750 server (dual 3G Xeon or somesuch). The first problem I noticed was that R (and the terminal) ground to a near halt during demo(graphics). Further investigation showed that it seemed to be due to having

Thin client system for X applications?
We're looking for what, years ago, I'd describe a s a X terminal -- something small, simple (and ideally cheap) that a user could display X applications on. I guess they're now called thin clients, but they now seem geared as seats on the web, and for this application we would need to be able display the results of running a homebrewed X application from a CentOS system, either

Workaround for (EL6.4) rdesktop-1.6.0-10 Woe
rdesktop has been spewing error messages since the update to CentOS 6.4. Aside from the continuous stream of errors in the terminal window from which it was launched, there are a number of usability issues in the remote session. The pointer does not change shape when moving over various window components such as column separators, window borders, etc. The background doesn't refresh within

isolating R/S and operating system differences
Below is a revised version of my kernel of functions for isolating R/S and operating system differences. The main change is "date" which I've renamed "date.parsed" to avoid conflicts with the R and S date functions. The R call now uses system() rather than unix() to avoid warning messages in R 0.62.3. CentOS7 changes strike again.
Still in the process of migrating from an old CentOS5 server to a brand new CentOS7. After finally getting Virtualbox-5.0 installed and a new Wondoze10 Pro installed it became time to shift the data from the old server to the new. The old server is headless and I installed the old WindozeXP into the Virtualbox4.x via the command line. To do some of the admin I needed to attach to the windoze

I've got this report (edited for clarity): # As it happens, it is unique to tunneling. I only have one protocol to # test with tunnelling at present due to firewalling on the host I'm # connecting to (rdp to a terminal server). # # When I try and telnet [host] 3389, it works fine, and I can disconnect # as normal. If I try the rdp client, I get this error: # # rdesktop: A Remote Desktop
