solution - running asterisk on box using alsa (FC3) for CONSOLE/dsp and wishing to play audio from browser
I found this information elsewhere....
making it /root/.asoundrc helped.
# This is .asoundrc
#
# this makes legacy OSS apps use alsa software mixing dmix
pcm.dsp0 {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "dmix"
}
# mixer0 can stay unchanged, because it isn't used anyway, I guess ? ;)
ctl.mixer0 {
    type hw
    card 0
}
# this makes native ALSA apps default to using dmix

Asterisk throws error using the alsa module
Hello,
I can't get the sound over alsa to work with Asterisk.
My current version is 1.4.21.2~dfsg-3 running on debian stable.
All settings are the default ones with exception of:
/etc/asterisk/modules.conf:
load => chan_alsa.so
noload => chan_oss.so
/etc/asterisk/alsa.conf:
input_device=default
output_device=default
asterisk is started up and doesn't complain about alsa in

Sound Cards, ALSA, and Asterisk
After looking on ALSA's web site, I believed that ALSA had good support for
the CA0106 chipset used in such cards as the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit. I
had all kinds of problems with it and finally was reading the driver source
code and realized that it is documented to not work with lower sample rates
and other things that Asterisk requires of a sound card for the console ALSA
channel.

Asterisk ALSA module not working
Asterisk doesn't work with the latest CVS of ALSA (2003-06-24) . The
module chan_alsa.so won't load even if the oss module, chan_oss.so,
isn't loaded. There are no error messages.
I've been chasing ALSA/Asterisk/client problems in one form or another
for some time now. In previous versions of Asterisk and ALSA -- i.e.,
last week -- I could load either chan_oss.so or

Comdial PBX -- can use Asterisk as VM box?
Hi! I've got a Comdial PBX that I would dearly love to replace with an
Asterisk box. However, for various reasons, it appears not to be in the
cards. Regardless of what management does, or does not, want, our
current VM solution -- some Dialogic card with a "KeyVoice" application
-- is dying. I'm 90% sure it's hardware. I'd rather shoot myself than
replace the

Asterisk - Soundcard - Recording?
Greetings-
I've got a curious project that I could use some input on. I'd like to use Asterisk to record some audio channels via USB 'soundcard'. When audio passes through the soundcard, Asterisk should grab that audio channel (CONSOLE?), and write it to a wav file. I'm perfectly competent with the dialplan portion of the recording, but I don't know about the following:

Crash using alsa
Hi,
i have compiled astersik using todays cvs. Worked like a charm.
Asterisk runs when the oss module is enabled but crashes badly with alsa.

Alsa and lag
My problem is this. I am connected via fwd's iax protocol. I try to call
the echo test, sometimes I get an answer, sometimes not. When I do,
sound is about one second lagged - I still hear the ring about a second
after I get the answering on console message, and the echo test takes
about a second or second and a half to get back the answer. When I use
asterisk with dmix and dsnoop, calling

Comdial PBX -- can use Asterisk as VM
If your vmail is connected via serial to your PBX it is most likely using
SMDI for MWI which isn't supported by Asterisk. I seem to remember that
this was submitted as a feature request with a bounty tied to it.

Console ALSA Sound
Hi
... probably one of those RTFM kind of questions (while I'd be happy to know
where a good reference "FM" is :-) )
Has anyone an idea on how to disable the console sound driver. My problem is
that a running asterisk is muting my speakers.
Thank you in advance for your help
