spandsp and app_rxfax (alternative topic: t38modem)
Dear gods of the PBX (flattery works here, right?) -
I've been pulling my hair out trying to get Asterisk to receive and
decode a fax using spandsp and app_rxfax. It seems like it should be
working. The fax machine on the other end connects and Asterisk reports
a fax coming in. But when it's done all I have is a 2 or 3 KB TIF (see
attachment).
The console activity looks completely

Hello,
I have spandsp working with asterisk (tested on one PSTN fax machine).
Today someone wanted to send me a fax, but there was a problem with the
TIFF file. This is what asterisk console says:

handle zero number of strips.

asterisk 1.2.7.1 and app_rxfax
Hi!
After upgrading to asterisk 1.2.7.1 (from 1.2.4) it seems that app_rxfax
doesnt work any more.
I've installed spandsp-0.0.2pre25 (the same problem with
spandsp-0.0.3pre6.tgz ) app_rxfax.c, app_txfax.c and made the Makefile
patch from the same directory.
When starting asterisk I always get the follwing error message:

app_rxfax.c and app_txxfax.c where?
Hi All,
Where can I find copies of the app_rxfax.c, app_txfax.c and
apps_Makefile.patch. They don't seem to be located at soft-switch.org
anymore.
I am currently trying to compile Asterisk 1.2.26.1 and need the fax
components.
Thanks.

Problem: Compiling error for SpanDSP app_rxfax
After resolving my earlier problem in updating the apps Makefile with the
patch for SpanDSP, I encountered another problem when I executed the "Make"
utility from /usr/src/asterisk. I obtained an error as shown below. Not
sure on how to resolve the problem.
gcc -pipe -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes

app_rxfax vs (iaxmodem+hylafax)
can anybody help me to choose the most reliable fax solution for * .
after googling the net i found that there are at least two solutions
for this, app_rxfax+spandsp and iaxmodem+hylafax.
- what's the differences between these two?
- which one's better? why?
thanks

Strange sound when fax answers (app_rxfax)
Hi!
I am struggling around with * and the spandsp library (app_rxfax) for a couple
of days. I'm trying to receive faxes which come via a SIP gateway.
The rxfax-module answers the call, the reception of faxes, however, still does
not work correctly, the received file is only about 300 bytes of size,
because the sending fax machine is terminating the transmission.
Now I've figured out

Latest CVS and app_rxfax
With the current CVS-HEAD line 88 of app_rxfax.c causes an error.
#if (ASTERISK_VERSION_NUM <= 010300)
chan->callerid,
app_rxfax.c:88: error: 'struct ast_channel' has no member named
'callerid'
Commenting out the if else combination of course gives a clean compile.

app_txfax, app_rxfax
Hello,
I'm trying to compile asterisk from source (1.2.18). Faxing is fairly
critical for us, so in the past we've used spandsps app_rxfax and
app_txfax to support faxing in asterisk. Unfortunately I can't find
these applications on soft-switch.org anymore and even so I have a
feeling they wouldn't patch correctly into 1.2.18.
Does anyone know how to best handle faxing in

app_rxfax.c: Channel T30 DONE < 0 -- incommplete fax reception.
Hi, all. I'm getting a lot of

going on? I've googled a fair bit, but haven't seen anything leap out at
me.
Thanks,

app_rxfax and app_txfax with Ubuntu?
Hi, all. I just tried to fire up app_txfax and app_rxfax, only to find
that I can't seem to compile them. The problem appears to be that my
libtiff library is wrong. Only problem is that, according to the README,
I need "libtiff >=3.8 and <4.0", which is all well and good... except that
there is no 3.x libtiff anywhere in the Ubuntu repository (that I can
find, at any rate).

Install app_rxfax and app_txfax in 1.4 with Lenny
Hi,
I've read README file in agx-ast-addons-1.4.17.5.tar.bz2
It says "Install libTiff >=3.8 and <4.0"
Should you really use this agx-ast-addons to get app_rxfax and app-_txfax
running with latest 1.4.22 ?
If positive, should you take this libtiff warning into account ?
If positive, where can you find such libtiff version as Debian repository (I
didn't check alternate

app_rxfax produces "RTP: Received packet with bad UDP checksum"
I have tried to set up app_rxfax to receive faxes over IP. I realise
there are mixed stories about how reliable this is at the best of times,
but at this point all I'm after is some guidance in interpreting the log
below. What does "RTP: Received packet with bad UDP checksum" suggest?
Here is the full log:
