Many music on hold files
A feature we're often asked for in our ITSP product is to allow
customers to upload their own music on hold, or to have it recorded for
them by a recording studio with the latest news, weather, etc,
punctuated by "Welcome to <customer>, please hold".
Since there may be thousands or tens of thousands of customers, and
perhaps 10% of customers may want this feature with a

mpg123 hangs on close, but plays fine.
I am running Asterisk CVS-04/16/03-18:57:13, and mpg123-0.59r
It all sounds great and it plays at the correct pitch and speed. However
at the end of the file it simply does nothing. It does not go on the
the next step in the extension.conf nor does it hang up. It just sits
there.
During play I have two processes running for the mp3 stream:

Call termination database
I've been considering doing a web based database system, where you can
post your termination offerings or wanted, then search by location,
price, minimum volumes, etc.
I'd probably make it free, supported by advertising my consulting
company, or Google Adwords, or something like that.
I've got the design written down, all ready to start coding. I could
probably have a prototype

Asterisk hogging CPU resources
Here's the problem:
I start asterisk, and it takes up around 3-4% of my CPU
resources.
However, this number continues to climb over the hours until it
is close to 100%.
Usually it takes around a day to climb up to approximately 95 or

Windows XP and Samba 3.0.22 -- don't mix?
All,
I desperately need a resolution to this issue. I've asked once (about a
day or two ago), but I haven't heard anything back. The only reason I
press the issue is I may because without a quick resolution, I may be
forced to switch over to AD (cry!). I submitted a request via Bugzilla
but I saw a slightly similar problem with 3.0.20a that still hasn't been
resolved, so I

Which box?
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I'm not finding an answer
anywhere. Do I need a dedicated box to run asterisk, or can I put in my
server (running Fedora) and leverage some of the free cpu cycles and
disk space? Thanks,
Dunc

Difference between E1 and PRI
Hi all,
I have seen the term E1 and PRI used interchangably when referring to
a voice service with 30B channels and 1 D channel. Are they just
different terms for the same thing or is there some technical
difference. Even Newton's telco dictonary seemed a bit fuzzy on this
topic. I have seen it said the PRi is a protocol that runs on top of
E1. Is this true?

Case studies for Asterisk Voicemail
I'm planning an Asterisk Voicemail system of around 3000 users spread
across several sites, each site connected by a fast network to a central
site. We're considering 2 models:
- Central Voicemail with VoIP calls from remote sites (easier to
administer the system(s)).
- Voicemail server at each site with shared database and NFS server at
the central site (easier to connect to the

useless mpg123 processes hanging around
Running Asterisk 1.6.2.11 on debian 5.0.6 with mpg123 1.4.3
when i start asterisk, i immediately see two mpg123 processes spawned
which sit there forever. I can't imagine it's normal behavior, but if
it is, please explain :)

Asterisk on Dell blade servers
We've been asked to quote for a large cluster running Asterisk and our
ITSP in a box product. The system will be SIP throughout, with mixed
codecs.
We're considering using Dell blade servers, 1855 or similar, on the
grounds that we normally use Dell machines and they work well, but we
need higher rack density.
Has anyone used these? Any feedback on whether they're

1.2.6 doesn't use mpg123?
Is it true that asterisk 1.2.6 does not use mpg123?
I just installed asterisk 1.2.6 and while I do have music on hold
(through format_mp3?) I do not have an mpg123 process running.
I seem to be having serious audio issues when going through one of my
providers (and just through that provider) when using mp3 for hold
music, however when using wav files it is fine.
The processor is only at about

Asterisk high load when streaming MOH
Hi list,
I've always about 50 concurrent SIP callers listening to several MOH
streams (fed via mpg123) on Asterisk 11.4.0, 4x 2.2 GHz and the CPU
usage is always at about 250% causing stuttering of the streams and
delays when using Read() and Playback() (overall everything is just
really slow/delayed). I've seen Asterisk doing that when the MOH stream
that was fed via mpg123 was

Noob question on connection
Hello,
I just started with asterisk and I start to get it, but there is one thing that I don't seem to get:
If I put an FXS-card into my asterisk server, then I can phone to the server with a normal phone, but can that phone also be reached by de server, so someone can caal back that phone? Or do I have to provide another connection?
And if I connect two asterisk servers, can this be thone

Periodic rogue 3.0.22 smbd's eating system
I have three users whose smbd processes will suddenly go rogue and start
sucking up CPU time. It isn't guaranteed that every time they log in, that
their process goes rogue, but it happens a lot. At that time I see that those
smbd processes have an effective UID of the person's username, and a real UID
of root. Everyone else's is always EUID root and UID root.
I haven't a clue

Custom Development
Hey guys,
I'm looking for a programming or Development Team/Company to do some custom
coding for Asterisk. What we need is not exactly simple. In fact, I'm not
sure the extent of the coding as far as technical terms go at all.
Currently we have a "call center" with 4 phones. There will be a total of 8
people using the phones. Obviously, no more than 4 people will use

Terminating IAX calls in E1 PRI interface - what do I need to be able to send arbitrary caller id to called party ?
Hi,
I'd like to terminate IAX call on PRI interface. What conditions should be
met to be able to send arbitrary caller numbers to called party, so he can
call back to supplied ISDN number (that is different for every IAX user) -
not through PRI interface, but plain ISDN call !!
Thanks in advance,
regards,
Rob.

A smbd process pegging CPU at near 100% with v3.0.10-1 FC2 RPM
CPU 99.3%:
2170 root 25 0 11656 3228 10m R 99.3 0.5 0:07.42 smbd
We're having the same problems as many others with print queues, client lock-ups, etc. I think
maybe this CPU problem is related as we have two servers in two locations with the same versions,
and both had the problem immediately after upgrading to 3.0.10. We use the YUM facility to
upgrade Samba. To react to these

Asterisk 1.0.5
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello everyone,
As you know, we released Asterisk 1.0.4 earlier this week. However,
there was a callerid bug in chan_zap that has caused us to go ahead and
make another release. Asterisk 1.0.5 is available at all of the usual
locations.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
