Hi all!

FreeBSD doesnt seem to support the PDC20378 chipset. Anyway, output

Can't boot from ad4: Device Not Configured?
I'm trying to move my drives from
the slow built-in IDE controller to
a faster PCI card (Promise ULTRA TX2).
The boot loader succesfully loads the
kernel, and the kernel succesfully probes
the Promise controller and the hard
disk connected to it.
But the root mount fails with error 6,
even after I type in "ufs:/dev/ad4s1a"
I looked through the kernel config files
and LINT and could

SATA RAID Card
anyone have experiences installing SATA raid card with CentOS/RHEL? I am
considering Promise FastTrak S150 Tx2 plus, FastTrack 2200 or FastTrack S150
Sx4
Which one of these ( or any othe brand) can ensure smooth install of CentOS
without problems, thanks.

Problem with Promise Ultra100 controllers & 2.6.9-42 kernel
When I boot my Centos home file server with the latest kernel,
2.6.9-42.0.10.EL, the two Promise controllers installed in the system are
unable to enable the 2nd IDE Channel on both cards due to a memory conflict.
The error indicates that the next block of memory is already allocated. So the
2nd IDE channel on each card does not get enabled. Listing of the two
controllers is below:

Weird EINVAL readig *large* file
Hi All,
I'm about to clean and re-initialize a Maxtor 160GB disk that
shows a weird problem but I think I've found a bug in RELENG_4_7
somewhere so if preserving my disk can help conquer one more bug
I'm happy to wait a couple of days and help solve that bug.
Here's the story:
While upgrading from 4.3-STABLE to 4.7p4 and at the same time
reorganizing my vinum volumes I copied

Promise raid cards
Hello.
I would like to know if promise RAID cards are compatible with CentOS / RHEL
?
I have seen that only SATA is supported on the RHEL hardware compatibility
list. The other ATA raid cards seems not to be compatible. They give source
code and promise grants compatibility with RedHat 8 and 9 but not RHEL.
I would like to know if somebody tried a ATA raid card like Fasttrack
TX2000, SX4000,

"TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA" with SiI 3512 SATA on IBM eServer 326
Hi,
I have a problem, probably with the SiI 3512 SATA150 controller in a
dual-Opteron IBM eServer 326:
Every once a while the kernel issues a message like:
ad4: TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA retrying (2 retries left) LBA=150190687
The system waits a few seconds and continues to work normally.
It typically occurs several times a day most likely depending on the
load of the (SATA connected) hard drive.

Large File Copy to Large ext3 RAID5 Array Often Stalls
I'm experiencing strange behavior from my ext3 RAID5 array and my Fedora Core 2 system. Before I go crazy varying all sorts of tuning parameters, I thought some list subscribers might provide me with useful advice.
The problematic array is:
3x Promise Technology Ultra 100 TX2 PCI cards
6x Maxtor 250GB IDE drives (one drive per cable)
RAID level 5, 128Kb chunk size, EXT3: "mkfs -t ext3

[LLVMdev] Excessive register spilling in large automatically generated functions, such as is found in FFTW
Hi,
I've noticed that LLVM tends to generate suboptimal code and spill an
excessive amount of registers in large functions, such as in those
that are automatically generated by FFTW.
LLVM generates good code for a function that computes an 8-point
complex FFT, but from 16-point upwards, icc or gcc generates much
better code. Here is an example of a sequence of instructions from a

FreeBSD + Zaptel + Asterisk
I've been lurking on the list for quite a while now, and I hadn't seen
much from people using FreeBSD, so I figured I'd post something.
Yes, the driver in the ports tree for the digium card works!
I'd heard reports that it crashes the box/etc, but I have yet to encounter
that.
I've had all the fun I can stand making it answer the phone, dial
numbers/etc. The makefile for the

isolinux 2.01 bug with Compaq and Promise BIOS
I have a Compaq something with a PII-400 and an Intel 440BX/ZX/DX
chipset. I put in a Maxtor Ultra133 PCI controller (which is a Promise
PDC20269, same as their TX2) and connected the hard drive thereto.
Before we go on, I should say that I **hate** both Promise and Compaq. I
wouldn't actually BUY this junk. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth,
as they say. :) (An old idiom I grew up

FXO Problems

2.4Ghz, 512MB RAM, Promise FastTrax 100 TX2 Pro Raid, 80GB RAID1 for
storage - whitebox - running RedHat 9. With pretty much any CVS HEAD
version we are getting, what I will call, "phantom" calls on some
lines. What I mean by a phantom call is that the line will ring,
Asterisk will log that the Zap channel has been

Failure to boot isohybrid image from USB stick
Hi,
i did not succeed to get my test computer (Asus A7V8X-X
of 2004) to boot from an isohybrid image.
I tried
http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/RIPLinux-7.0-non-X.iso
which is obviously isohybrid enabled.
The system has a "Promise Ultra 133 TX2" IDE controller
which supercedes the mainboard BIOS.
To make the system react on the USB stick i set boot

Symlinks not behaving as expected?

I have published a share of symlinked logfiles, because I want to publish
the logs but not the full directories in which the logs live. Here are
