Kernel panic on Dell 1850
I'm attempting to upgrade to kernel-smp-2.4.21-27.0.4.EL (x86_64) on a
Dell 1850. The new kernel is panicing on reboot. When comparing
against the current working kernel, I just noticed that we're currently
running the "UP" kernel:
[root at polaris root]# uname -srvp
Linux 2.4.21-27.0.2.EL #1 SMP Wed Jan 19 11:49:43 CST 2005 x86_64
First question... why is the kernel

Changing booted Kernel with grub
Hi,
I have updated the kernel to 2.4.21-27.0.2 on Centos 3.4 (was 3.3 when
I did the kernel update) and have modified grub.conf to use the single
CPU kernel:
# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.

Diagnosing poor call quality
Greetings list,
We have an issue with call quality at 2 sites where the users (4 Elmeg
IP290s at one site, 2 SPA942s at the other) do not have an asterisk box
on-site. Each site has an 8mb down/448k up ADSL connection and the phones
connect via SIP to an asterisk box in a datacentre using g729.
The asterisk box in the datacentre connects to our other asterisk boxes
providing pstn connectivity

Large sites
Hi,
I am looking networking together about 1000-2000 sites across the
country. I've been looking through these mailing lists. Saw the thread
from the person who had 1000+ running on Amazon, and how they
essentially stripped all security out of it. Also know that the
ChaosVPN uses tinc, for at least 130+ sites although I'm a bit fuzzy
on the details for it.
Are there any other cases of

Kernel errors, resulting in system crashes
Hi Guys,
After a chat with some helpful people on Freenode I've included as much
information as I can think to about this error, if you need anything else
please don't hesitate to ask.
I run a webserver (remotely administered, no graphical user interface that
i know of - certainly not one running all the time) - in the past few days
this error has started to occur, the system dies and

can I use CentOS as a antivirus / spam filter / HTTP AV gateway?
Hi all
I've been thinking about using CentOS on a Dell R200 server and turn it
into a firewall / network monitor / traffic shaper in our datacentre,
instead of using a dedicated firewall device.
One of the devices that I have been looking at, with my limited budget,
is the D-Link DFL 860 -

It provides AV, SPI, VPN, DOS, P2P, etc

Kernel Panic on New Kernel Package
Hey all,
I have a P4 2.4 GHz CPU (hyper threading) and have been using the
2.4.21-20.EL.c0smp kernel and it works perfectly.
I installed the new kernel-smp (2.4.21-20.0.1.EL) kernel and it installed
flawlessly. However, every time I boot I get a kernel panic and I must
reboot to the older kernel.
The error I am getting is: (it seems to be failing on jbd.o and ext3.o)

Uniprocessor kernel booted after YUM update
We have Xeon IA32 dual-processor servers running Centos 3.5 in an HPC
batch-only compute grid configuration . We have yum update operating
automatically with default updates being applied weekly. Because of the
workload pattern of long-runing jobs, the servers tend to stay up
without a reboot for very long periods.
Recently, yum installed an updated kernel 2.4.21-32.0.1.ELsmp; when we

Debian - plugins being installed to the wrong place?
Hi,
I''ve been moving my app from my development environment (my laptop
running OSX) to my test environment (a dedicated Debian box in a
datacentre somewhere).
All seems to be OK except ruby Plugins don''t seem to work. When I go to
a page which uses a plugin I get errors... e.g.
uninitialized constant Paypal
Same happens with other plugins I''m using e.g. FasterCSV

Bell Canada Caller-ID
Has anyone gotten CID from Bell Canada to work properly with *?
We have our * box down at our datacentre in St Louis, and whenever we
call it from a Bell Canada Telephone line, all we see is '' for the CID.
I did some digging on google and the mailing lists and couldn't find
anything pertaining directly to Bell-Canada and * CID, but didn't find
much. I did however find :

RHEL 3 and quota problems...
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I've just installed 1.0beta9 on my RHEL 3 system and am still getting
the problems with the quota-fs returning "invalid argument".
I think i've traced the problem down to differences in the quota
versions based on the <sys/quota.h> files on RHEL 3 compared to FC3.
on the system itself i'm using v2 quotas (with aquota.user

Suddenly getting lots of "Unable to send packet: Address Family mismatch between source/destination" but ONLY on 1 of 2 VPSs in same datacentre.
Two VPSs. Identical setups with the exception of the extension.
Same version of everything, Asterisk 14.1, Ubuntu 16.10, same firewall
rules and so on - box 2 was cloned from box 1.
Both VPSs run in the same datacentre.
Suddenly, after weeks of OK, I'm getting lots of this on ONE box only:
