[patch] fstype fix ext3 <-> lvm2 detection
From: David H?rdeman <david@2gen.com>
if a partition has been used as lvm2 and has not been cleared with
pvremove, fstype would recognise the ext3 partition as lvm2.
workaround that by detection lvm2 after ext3.
Bonuspoint remove long fs list as this one just generates conflicts.

Compiling Kernel Modules
Hi,
Here'a a question - is it possible to compile a single module (distributed
in the kernel source tree) for the current CentOS kernel (2.6.9-5.0.5)
without recompiling the entire kernel and all other modules.
I basically need reiserfs3 (nb. why is it disabled? it's a module, you
use it, it doesn't wreck anything...) and I don't really want to change
the rest of the kernel, and

[PATCH] Do LUKS detection later in fstype
Similarly to the fix which was applied earlier which moved LVM detection
to the bottom of the list in fstype, we also need to move luks detection
to the end of the list since a LUKS signature leftover could co-exist
with a regular fs.
Regards,
David

rsync to a destination > 8TB problem...
I am trying to use a large (10TB) reiserfs filesystem as an rsync
target. The filesystem is on top of lvm2 (pretty sure this doesn't
matter, but just in case.) I get the following error when trying to
sync a modest set of files to that 10TB target (just syncing /etc for
now):

If Trying to Recover a Damaged Partition: kbs-CentOS-Extras Has a Tool
Recently (and for ages, I'm sure) folks have suffered partition
destruction and had to try and recover. In the recent thread, the victim
eventually had to resort to Google and fond some package that I can not
remember now.
Well, I was perusing my YumInfo.lst.05, for general info, and I
discovered this (potential) little gem. Thought I would pass it on and
make it "more googleable"

[PATCH] Use guestfsd binary to auto-generate library dependencies for appliance
The ELF NEEDED are used to determine guestfsd's library dependencies
with help from the dynamic linker and the package manager.
This was prompted by Debian bug #972241 which was caused by a
libtirpc package renaming in Debian/unstable because the SONAME had
been changed.

appliance/make.sh won't update when re-configure with new mirror (or updates) url
Hi, all:
When I re-configure in the source directory, and then make the build. It will use the previous urls of mirror and updates which I specified via --with-mirror and --with-updates.
for example: the previous command line I used is:
1. $ ./autogen.sh --with-mirror='http://wrongurl/fedora/os/' --with-updates='http://wrongurl/fedora/updates' --with-repo='wrong_repo'
2. $

Disk Druid - control RAID partition layout?
Is it possible to partition a disk with Disk Druid and control the order
of the partitions? I want to create my own boot and swap as RAID
partitions but Disk Druid won't keep them in the order I want, no
matter what I specify first. I've done this before by using fdisk
to make the partitions before starting Disk Druid but I thought
someone said this was an old bug and should have been

Q: No Reiserfs in Kernel
Hello,
I have a quick question. I am currious why reiserfs isn't compiled into
the kernel? Although RHEL doesn't include the tools to manage reiserfs
it includes the kernel drivers.
Thanks,
Bill

Samba + Clipper too slow
Hi everybody!
We've a legacy application based on Clipper, very important
for the company.
And we want to share the database and program files through
a samba server with Gentoo Linux.
But, when the users mapping the resource with a Windows 98, 2K
or XP client, the application run VERY VERY slow.
This application has been shared with Windows 98, 2K or XP
and run too much faster than Samba.

performance on small files transfers
Hi all,
I'm confused of small files (no bigger than 50k )
transfers speed through samba, which is very slow on
my machine. Bellow is a real case,
-- SuSE professional 9.2, kernel 2.6.11,Samba 3.0.14a,reiserfs
-- Dual AMD Opteron,4G mem,Giga byte LAN
-- 2 raid 5 make up of 16 SATA hard disks
-- set readhead to 1024
I tested raids speed using bonnie++ and get 450 Mbytes/s
at 16GB files
