A bit of a survey: What do do if you need more than 4 C.O. lines
Folks, In light of all the troubles people report when running more than one TDM400 card in a system, I wouldn't mind hearing what your solution of choice would be when having to connect 5 or more analog telco circuits to an Asterisk. I'll try and compile the answers together and get them into the Wiki, as I figure this could be useful knowledge for the community. TIA, Jim. -- Jim

Brainstorm: Running Asterisk as cool as possible - AKA solid state.
I would like to ask what people think the best way would be to build a low-power consumption, passively-cooled system. For example, one could use a fanless-Eden (mini-ITX/EPIA) system, but the loss of FPU power would limit performance. The obvious choice for FPU work are the Intels and AMDs, nut they're all power-hungry radiators. Is there something that can offer the quiet, power-savings of

Survey: what's the best HTTPd/TFTPd/FTPd to serve up configuration files to sets
I would like to start a discussion centred around the various ways one might serve up configuration files from an Asterisk server (I know, it's better to use a secondary server for all this, but let's talk about a smaller system). The types of things being served would include: - Logo image for sets that support that - XML directory files - XML or raw text configuration files -

RE: [on-asterisk] Brainstorming dual-core and Asterisk
I believe you can assign processors in vmware, and xen as well. So you could probably do something funky like that to try to reduce load. The only thing that probably becomes difficult is trying to manage physical hardware between virtual machines. Any interest in a Canadian Asterisk mailing list?
Just on the off chance that Canadian Asterisk users might be interested in a place to discuss topics specific to the "great white north" (sources, services, telcos, etc.), I created the asterisk-canada mailing list: http://lists.syonex.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-canada or asterisk-canada-subscribe@lists.syonex.com Cheers! Adaptec 2230SLP not detected
[I originally sent this using the wrong email address - apologies if it appears twice] Hello Everyone, Has anyone tried installing CentOS 4 x86_64 on a machine with an Adaptec 2230SLP card? I've just tried it, and Anaconda could not detect the card. I've manually loaded the aacraid driver, which then starts the install process. But, when the install gets to disk partitioning, the

Monitoring a telco line for MWI through a TDM400 FXO
Folks, I've tried to find a reference, but I've had no luck, and would appreciate your thoughts: I'd like to be able to monitor a telco line for Message Waiting Notification, however I cannot figure out if this capability is available. Detecting either FSK or Stuttered Dial tone would serve, but I can't find anything in the list archives or Wiki with clues as to how this might

Evolution forgetting read mail
Hi all, Has anyone seen Evolution "forget" which emails have been read in CentOS 4? I have a client that's reported he's reading his email, closes Evolution, and when he starts it again, the messages are marked as unread. I found bug reports about this here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=273787 https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4373 It's supposedly

Strange problem: can't fit into subject
Hi all, I'm experiencing something rather strange with our Asterisk setup. I'll go through the steps. Scenario 1: 1. I call someone on the outside (from my analog phone extension). 2. Everything appears honkey dorey. 3. Transfer called party to conference or another extension - fails. Scenario 2: 1. Receive a call at my extension from the outside. 2. Everything appears honkey dorey.

x101p + Nortel ATA2
Hi, Does anyone have any experience connecting Asterisk to a Meridian system using an ATA2 and x101p? The basics work -- I can make outbound calls, receive inbound, and use flash to transfer calls, but certain things do not work, specifically with calls from internal extensions. - Does the Meridian/ATA2 pass any kind of callerid info? We do not have external callerid, but I'm not even

Kind of off-topic: VoIP services and multiple callers
Hello Everyone, I've been running Asterisk as our PBX for several months now, and recently I've been thinking about using one of the VoIP providers to lower our phone bill. I know that VoIP providers can supply their customers with a local number and/or virtual numbers, and then that number/account can be used with Asterisk (well, it depends on the provider and whether or not their

rxgain - txgain values
Hi, I know that this issue has been discused guite a lot, but I haven't managed to get a definite answer. Is those two values supposed to be floats (e.g. 3.5) or integers with the percent symbol (e.g. 20%)? Thanks, Yiannis.

Restart Digium Cards
Greetings I have a X100p and a TDM400P card in a Redhat 9 server. If Asterisk is not suhtdown properly (reboot without stopping Asterisk or power failure etc), I have to do a modprobe command after the restart before Asterisk works again. Any ideas how to resolve this. Martin -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Another Newbie Question
Hey all, My apologies if this sounds blindingly obvious, but am I correct in saying that I can use Asterisk to connect two extensions and make calls between them without needing an actual telephone line at all ? As I said, probably blindingly obvious. but my techies have gone home for the evening and I was looking for an answer before I left. Thanks, Callum -------------- next
