Using Dovecot-auth to return error code 450 (or other 4xx) to Postfix when user is on vacation
Hello to all members. I am using Dovecot for 5 years, but this is my first post here. I am aware of the various autoresponder scripts for vacation autoreplies (I am using Virtual Vacation 3.1 by Mischa Peters). I have an issue with auto-replies - it is vulnerable to spamming with forged email address. Forging can be prevented with several Postfix settings, which I did in the past - but was forced

Q's about switching from sendmail to postfix
Running CentOS 4.2 with all updates. I've been using sendmail for my MTA since forever. I've grown used to it and I can make it do what I want it to. However (there's always a catch, isn't there)... Lately it seems that some mail is being lost. I've noticed some instances when a message was sent to myself and others which I will only see if someone replies back to

How to get original recipient from Postfix when using LMTP?
Many people prefer to use LMTP for delivery from postfix for better efficiency but X-Original-to header support still missing after many years. One affect of this is need to set sieve_vacation_dont_check_recipient = yes which violate Sieve standard and cause auto-replyies sent to messages that should not happen. Or abandon LMTP. or abandon postfix?? So while feature request is stalled are

Echo from a mail loop in list
Every time I post to the list I get the following response indicating that there is a mail loop. the recipient maxx@digital-system.it has some problems with looping. Hi. This is the qmail-send program at smtp.register.it. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

Helo Checks not always working?
All i have is : smtpd_client_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, permit_sasl_authenticated   I disabled the unknown restriction due to lots of customers of me are missing PTR records, which needs to be set bij the internet provider. So they got blocked, i had to remove these.   The Helo check is often on the IT department can adjust them selfs. And most spammers have incorrect helo’s

Postfix restrictions
Hi, I'm currently fine-tuning my mail server (Postfix and Dovecot on CentOS 7). SPF, DKIM and DMARC work fine, now I'd like to limit the spam tsunami. Besides the official Postfix documentation, I've read a few articles about Postfix spam restrictions, namely these : https://www.linuxbabe.com/mail-server/block-email-spam-postfix https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix_restrictions

smtp question
Correct me if I'm wrong here but when a message bounces and the mailer/mta generates a bounce message shouldn't the from field have <> in it instead of an email addres (ie. MAILER-DAEMON@domain.com). The list was nailed with over 13,000 bounce messages(and they keep coming) from ONE list subscriber and I wasn't sure if their smtp server wasn't doing what it should. I

Recommended method?
Hopefully this isnt TOO general of a question. I have a raid server that runs dovecot and exports via nfs the maildir format store. I have 4 mail servers running exim that use dovecot to deliver over nfs I have been examing our entire setup and had the thought, would it be recommended to instead have another exim process running directly on the raid server and have my mail servers deliver mail

How "safe" is reject_unknown_helo_hostname?
Helo hostname MUST have resolvable hostname. Crazy or not, but i use this. The _access-allow parts for server you really trust. smtpd_client_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, reject_unauth_destination, check_client_access cidr:/etc/postfix/check_client_access-allow.cidr, reject_unknown_hostname, reject_non_fqdn_hostname, reject_invalid_hostname,
