Attempting custom CentOS4 network install
Hi I am installing CentOS4 over ether network using http and kickstart. I boot from the first CentOS CD and at "boot:" prompt I input "ks=http://localserver/install/custom.cfg". Except for minor glitches like "Kernel-Development group not found" warning, the process is smooth and is almost completely automated. Now, I want to add additional RPMS to the CentOS/RPMS

IPTables not working?
Hello CentOS, I'm having a strange situation on one of my servers. I'm running CentOS with all the latest yum updates. It runs fine, but iptables does not seem to be 'consistently' dropping the packets from the IP's I've put a drop rule in for. When I do iptables -L I still see the rule in place: iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source

Temporary root access to another user.
I have Cent OS 4 installed on my computer, with cable internet. My ISP requires me to login to the account before I can access the Internet. I require to type some commands to get it working. (It comes with a software which I have installed) But that requires root access. I have many users on this computer, who can't access the Internet without my permission ( And I can't tell them the

yam at ftp.linux.ncsu.edu
I had yam working with ncsu.edu until the things changed when centos seperated the two projects. Now I can't get it to work. This is what I am trying to use but it says "nothing to do". updates = rsync://ftp.linux.ncsu.edu/centos/$release/$repo/$arch/RPMS/ This with gatech on the other hand works but they have a 20 connection limit so I would like to get ncsu.esu working again.

Document Management System
Hi all, I was wondering if someone can give me some pointers to a good Document Management System. I've been using Knowledge Tree for a while and just wondering if there is something a bit more robust. I'm archiving technical specs, functional documents, etc... Problems joining Samba toa w2000 AD PDC
Hi, I have this (Linux) Samba file server, that indeed is a client of a Windows 2000 Server PDC, using Active Directory. I am the Samba machine admin, but not the Windows one. I have to join the Samba machine to the PDC on the 2000 server. I ask the Windows 2000 server admin to come to my Samba machine and insert his login and password to join my machine, but i always get the same error

Betr.: Multiple IP Addresses in a single NIC
Hi, You need to issue two commands: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx /sbin/route add -host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx dev eth0 For example: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 172.16.1.199 /sbin/route add -host 172.16.1.199 dev eth0 You can even assign multiple aliases to one NIC (One of my servers has about 10 ip addresses): For example: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 172.16.1.199 /sbin/route add -host 172.16.1.199

Oracle Apps on Linux
Hi folks, I seem to remember someone asking how to install Oracle Apps on Linux so here goes a quick and dirty how-to:- 0 - You will need access to Metalink (Oracle's support site) for downloading patches and read documentation on line. 1 - Size up your Linux box to at least 1Gb memory and 200Gb of disk space. I'm assuming you have a Pentium 4 at around 3GHz. 2 - Download and

Fighting some install issues with a new box
Folks- I have had a machine dropped in my lap that I am trying to get CentOS 4.1 to run on as a first pass (the hope is for it to eventually run Rocks -- http://www.rocksclusters.org , which uses CentOS 4.x as its underlying OS). The machine has 2 Opteron 250DP (2.4GHz) with 4 GB of RAM. It is using a Tyan Thunder K8WE (S2895A2NRF) motherboard with an nVidia nForce chipset --

Simple backup of maildir folder
Hi, I want to do a simple backup of my maildir. I read here that maildirlock is not to count on in the future and the recommended option was to use doveadm backup. However, it seems that this requires to setup another dovecot server. My questions are: - How much to I need to configure this new server? Do I need to setup user by user, or even install postfix (that's where my users are

Hello! I would like to know if R can solve Differential Equations... I don't think so because, in my point, I see R like a Statistical System, not a Math System. Am I wrong? Thank you very much. Doveadm Backup issues
Hi, I'm trying to use doveadm backup but I'm having a few issues. When trying locally: `doveadm backup -D -A maildir:/usr/local/backup` It results that no mailbox is separated by user - all seems to sync on the same folder, messing up with the folder structure of the original maildir. When trying remotely: `doveadm backup -D -A -N ssh -i mykey root at myremotebackup.com:/backup

[Bridge] Clarification regarding device matches in bridge-netfilter
Hi folks, in 2.4 kernels, device matching for bridged packets was done with iptables -i/-o. Since 2.6, I was used to use -m physdev here. In 2.6.18, This seems to be more complicated. At least the filter/INPUT chain now doesn't match with -m physdev --physdev-in anymore, but FORWARD and OUTPUT does. I also read the note that -m phydev is now deprecated for non-bridged traffic. Does this
