1 GB RAM CentOS 4 only sees 885 MB
Is this a known bug? Suprisingly google didn't turn up much. I'm running
DDR RAM and a AMD XP processor on CentOS 4.

CentOS 4.0 -> 4.1 update failing
I've updated CentOS 4.0 to 4.1 on several machines (some desktops, some
servers). However on my laptop, update is failing with following error
just after headers are downloaded:
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: glibc-common = 2.3.4-2 for package: glibc
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: glibc-common = 2.3.4-2 is needed by package

What do you think about this motherboard?
Hello all..... I would like to know if anyone here has had good
experience with this Supermicro
motherboard.....http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.cfm
I am thinking about using it in an entry level mail and file server
with a 3ware card and 200 GB SATA drives. Cost is a factor here
otherwise I would go for an Opteron board instead.

64-bit CentOS 4.2
What exactly is different between the 32 and 64-bit version of CentOS
4.2? The kernel (drivers, file system, etc.) is probably compiled to
support 64-bit and probably glibc. What're some important differences
between the 32 and 64-bit version? I'm just trying to get a deeper
understanding.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: [which kernel for AMD Sempron processor?
Agreed: Should have read "socket A" semprons, since these are the most
common currently although rapidly disappearing...

At more than 1GiB on Linux/x86, you must use a 4G+4G kernel
(this is the default) to see more than 960MiB. This causes a
signficant (10%+) performance hit. On

Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000
laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it
into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized.
I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either...
I thought USB was well established....
I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support
might get my networking going...
I am stuck???

Wine and ConquerOnline
Hello,
I'm using Linux for about two months now. Even before switching to Linux
I have heard of Wine.
I got my system running relativelly stable (I use Slackware 10.2,
kernel-2.6.14 and KDE 3.4), but still have some issues - sound being one
of them. But that's my problem.
I'd like to contribute to the wine project somehow. Perhaps starting as
a test user for some application.

Opteron in 32-bit mode
I'm spec-ing a development server for some Haskell hackers. In
particular, they need to be able to build and run the Glasgow Haskell
Compiler (ghc), the x86_64 port of which isn't quite there yet.
My current thought is to get an Opteron-based system, but load it
(initially, at least) with the 32-bit i386 version of CentOS. That buys
me near-term ghc compatibility. In the future,

Hi. I'm a first time glusterfs user, and I'm trying to simulate what will
happen when I need to add more bricks for storage capacity. My config files
are below but I'll try and explain what is going on. I have 2 machines with
2 hard drives in each. I created a replicated storage system where machine
a replicates to machine b.
