Serial console
I am trying to get a CentOS 6.3 serial console to work with IPMI SOL. I think I
have everything working but maybe the wrong baud rate on the getty:
$ ipmitool -I lanplus -U root -H 10.0.0.14 sol activate
Password:
[SOL Session operational. Use ~? for help]
??????????
10.0.0.14 is the DRAC IP address of the CentOS 6.3 box. It accepts the password
and connects me to the console but then when I

/dev/tty*: not a character device after reboot
Hello All
I just recently adopted a server with Gentoo/Xen as domain0 server with several domainUs attached to it. Please forgive my xen-noobness, but I was hoping that someone can help me out.
These images have not been updated in a long time, and I''m trying to get all the domainUs updated with their appropriate services patches, etc. I''m currently working on one Gentoo

# This service maintains a agetty on ttyS0.
stop on runlevel [S016]
start on runlevel [23]
respawn

Zombie processes being created when console buffer is full
We have been researching stuck zombie processes in our libvirt lxc
containers. What we found was:
1) Each zombie’s parent was pid 1. init which symlinks to systemd.
2) In some cases, the zombies were launched by systemd, in others the
zombie was inherited.
3) While the child is in the zombie state, the parent process (systemd)
/proc/1/status shows no pending signals.
4) Attaching gdb to

Garbled menu on ISOLINUX
We have a system that is designed with no VGA port, graphics card, or keyboard, only a serial console. We're trying to boot a Linux via ISOLINUX. The problem is that when ISOLINUX comes up, the screen is usually garbled. Not always; sometimes it's intact, sometimes it's completely blank. When it is garbled, it is NOT the garbled text of a wrong baud rate. Rather, it looks like

Why ''xm console'' not works sometimes?
Hello,
I''m using Red Hat AS 5 with Xen 3.0, and sometimes ''xm console'' does not
work, the most of times when I''m trying to connect one full-virt machine
with different arch from server, for example:

Isolinux serial console redirection issue
Hello all,
I'm trying to use the console to setup our cluster. In the past, we used a
floppy and it worked just fine. We had to manually use the "ks=" argument.
Now, I actually see the "menu" on the serial console *and* the monitor but I
can't use the keyboard. I can only use the keyboard that is connected on the
machine. Unplugging the keyboard doesn't help.

Software RAID1 issue
When a new system CentOS-4.4 is built the swap partition is always
reversed...
Note md3 below, the raidtab is OK, I have tried various raid commands to
correct.
swapoff -a
raidstop /dev/md3
mkraid /dev/md3 --really-force
swapon -a
And then I get a proper ourput for /proc/mdstat,
but when I reboot /proc/mdstat again reads as below, with md3 [0] [1]
reversed.
[root]# cat /proc/mdstat

Software RAID CentOS4
Hi,
I have a system with two IDE controllers running RAID1.
As a test I powered down, removed one drive (hdc), and powered back up.
System came up fine, so powered down installed a new drive (hdc)
And powered back up.
/proc/mdstat indicatd RAID1 active with hda only. I thought it would
Auto add the new hdc drive... Also when I removed the new drive and

CentOS 7 kernel console under KVM?
Is there a way to get GRUB2 and the kernel to run a "serial" console
under KVM?
I'm running a Fedora 20 desktop, with libvirt-managed VMs. When I run a
CentOS 6 VM, I can set both the boot loader and kernel up to use ttyS0
and get a console compatible with "virsh console".
When I try the same with a CentOS 7 VM, it doesn't work. If I set it to
ttyS0, I just

help configuring netboot over remote serial terminal
Hi Folks,
I'm trying to install Debian onto a headless server (Supermicro
X8SIE-LN4F motherboard). The on-board IPMI BMC redirects the serial
port to COM3, and I can talk to it just fine over a remote console
connection.
I've been trying to install Debian remotely, and have the DHCP and TFTP
servers working, and things seem to work (at least into the Splash
screen) if I'm using

Invalid or unsupported executable format, or is it a reiserfs problem?
Our newly build xen kernel does not boot. The error message is : Invalid
or unsupported executable format.
I have build xen from the xen-2.0.4 source (make world, make install) on
a debian sarge system.
I have not changed any of the kernel configurations, I did make an
initrd image.
The entry in my menu.lst is :

PXEboot works but running into a wall at "login"
This is slightly off topic since I am all the way upto
the login prompt, but I appeal to you all because you
probably have experience in this:
I am passing a diskless workstation a compressed root
filesystem that is copied from a server (chopped
down). I am only intereted in text consoles being
available on the client (runlevel 3).
The diskless workstation goes well up to the login:
