Deleting a message through IMAP
I have been having a problem with the test releases...I am now using Test 59. When
I delete a message using SquirrelMail (IMAP) the message stays in the message
list....but you can't open it anymore because it can't be found, if I logout and log
back in...the message is gone from the list. I thought it could be a problem with
the cache, so I added

Caller ID on TelaSIP SIP Channel
I can't seem to get consistant outbound caller ID working correctly. I
have set the fromuser and callerid field in my sip.conf for my TelaSIP
peer, but half the time it shows up as "No Caller ID" on my cell phone,
other times it shows it correctly.
Using asterisk CVS. Any ideas?

POP Before SMTP for Sendmail
Does anyone have a patch or information resource on implementing POP
before SMTP with sendmail and DoveCot?
I implemented it using a qpopper patch before we swiched to DoveCot for
Maildirs. We have been using DoveCot for almost a year now and love it
better than any other IMAP or POP3 server.
Thanks for the info,

rsync differences between Fedora/Ubuntu?
Hello All,
(I'm only one step above a user, so would appreciate any technical
answers thoroughly explained. But if you're in a real rush, I could
just forward your reply to a local wizard for translation.)
With the script below, I use rsync to mirror the /boot partition and the
/ (without /boot) partition on to removable ATA/IDE hard drives.
(Insertion/removal of mirror drives are

Upgrading Drive, Best Practice?
Hi,
This might sound like a n00b question, but I've honestly never done this
with a Linux machine... (it is running Centos3)
We have a 1U mail server with two 36GB SCSI drives in a hardware mirror
config. There's no more room for any other drives in the case. It's
filling up, so we now have two 74GB drives ready to take their place.
Possible solutions that I've come up

UID Error on Test 24 and 25
I started testing Dovecot 1.0 Test 22! I loved the performance improvements, althought dovecot has been
very fast for us from the beginning.
However, now I am testing test 24 and 25, and I am seeing these errors in the dovecot log and
squirrelmail is giving me a
ERROR : Connection dropped by imap-server.

Still having problems deleting messages through IMAP
Hello,
I am using SquirrelMail with the 1.0 releases, and I have even backed up to the latest stable release based on 1.0. I am using MailDirs.
When I delete a message, the message still shows up in the message list until either I log out and back in or a new message arrives in that folder.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Query regarding initramfs
Hi
I had some doubts regarding what all the init application should do:
>> so, that should that application do?
>> - mount /dev/hda1 /new-root
>> - cd /new-root
>> - run-init
1. Of what I understand, before exitting, init should mount the realroot
and execute the init process.
Is realroot the '/' or the empty directory created (in the cpio
archive) ?

text rather than html help in Windows
I would like to use Rterm in Windows XP and have the help files appear in
text format in the terminal rather than in the html popup window. For
example, I would like to enter help(lm) and get the text to appear in the
terminal window. Can anyone suggest a way to do this? Thanks and Happy Hew
Year.

big file server
Hi
I plan to set up a big file server, something like motherboard with 4 ide
ports and an additional 4 ide daughter card, a PIV proc and 512 or 1024 MB
ram, a 100 or 1000 MB NIC, with 6 or 7 200 GB ide HDDs in a sigle box. I
don't need lightning performance, just disk space. Of course this would be
served by some linux os and samba
questions (relative to samba configuration and behaviour) :

[patch 0/2] grub-0.97: btrfs support
Hello everyone.
The following patches are for Fedora 10(**).
The distro-independent package will be put to kernel.org a bit later.
I. Loading kernels from btrfs volumes
Now you can load kernels and initrds from btrfs volumes composed of
many devices.
WARNING!!!
Make sure that all components of your loading btrfs volume(*) are
visible to grub. Otherwise, you''ll end with

Calling All FS Fanatics
Now that I've been enlightened to the terrible write performance of ext3 on my
new 3Ware RAID 5 array, I'm stuck choosing an alternative filesystem. I
benchmarked XFS, JFS, ReiserFS and ext3 and they came back in that order from
best to worst performer.
I'm leaning towards XFS because of performance and because centosplus makes
kernel modules available for the stock kernel.

Recommended FS for Dovecot Maildir
Hi,
I've heard that for Dovecot/Mailir systems there are filesystems that
are optimised for the situation of many small files in one folder.
Could I possibly have some feedback on what the recommended filesystems
are? I've heard of ReiserFS but was wondering what other options there
are and how they compare.
If I get a good comprehensive response I'll build a wiki summary page

mount the wrong device after system recovery
Hi,
I am recovering a CentOS 5.4 system. I've copied all partitions into the
recovery system. I've installed grub boot loader. However, the original
system is using /dev/sdb1 for root (/), while the recovery system is
using LVM (/dev/vg0/lv1) for root (/). When recovery system boots, I got
the panic error:
* Mounting /dev/sdb1 on /sysroot

File Systems - Which one to use?
We are looking at implementing a Linux box running samba in the near
future with about 1TB of disk online. The purpose of this box will be
for basic file and printer sharing needs. I am doing research on the
different journaling file systems avaible in RH 7.3 and up (ext3,
reiserFS, and JFS) and was wondering if anyone has had any real world
experience with them (mostly reiserFS and JFS) and

xfs module not loading
I'm trying to add XFS and ReiserFS to CentOS, integrating with
Kickstart. I think I'm fairly close. I've added xfs.ko and
reiserfs.ko to modules.cgz in initrd. Several of my partitions now
specify --fstype=xfs. I can see tty5 mkfs.xfs is creating the XFS
file systems. The system currently installs completely via kickstart,
but it does not mount the XFS file systems while in the

XFS vs. ext3
(Sorry for cross-posting; I'm not on either ext3-users or
linux-xfs, but I thought both lists might find this interesting.
CC me with any replies or questions. Thanks.)
(The last four paragraphs contain the interesting bits.
Basically, XFS hath kick-ed the *ss of ext3 under conditions
that are, for our company, critical.)
