Found the answer!!!>>[Fwd: Error when clicking on link>>text error correction]
In FC2, I had installed both Firefox and Thunderbird from Mozilla.org.
They were not "resident" as part of the distro. With CentOS4, they are
"standard" features. After I adjusted "Preferred Applications" applet
to accommodate the change of locations, all started working properly.
Thanks for allowing me to take up space and bandwidth.

Error when clicking on link>>text error correction
I meant to say that I left my home directory intact so I would _not_
have to re-option, etc...
Good Morning--
Since installing CentOS4 the other day, I've had trouble with
Thunderbird 1.02 when attempting to click on a link within an email.
Rather than opening a tab in Firefox 1.0.4, I get an error message:
"Error showing url: There was an error launching the default action

New to CentOS, miss Grip
Hi there--
Just installed CentOS 4 the other night and can figure out how to
install Grip. I can't seem to satisfy the dependencies. Has anyone had
success? Is there a reason why Grip isn't part of the distro that I
should know about?
My old distro was FC2. This was a wholesale installation and not an
upgrade.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dick

Problem opening CD/DVD Drive door
Since moving from FC2 to CentOS 4.x I've been having a strange problem
opening the CD/DVD drive door after burning backups.
A cron job tars and gzips directories I want to back up and stores the
.tar.gz file in my /misc directory. I then burn the file onto a blank
CD. All goes well with the burn...the drive door opens upon completion.
The problem occurs when I re-insert the CD to test

How to stop automount
I just put a USB hard drive into service, but find that unless the drive

Below is the line I added to fstab. I thought that the option "noauto"
would prevent the machine from trying to mount the drive

clicking backspace in centos3 makes ^?
While in centos3, using vim and clicking the backspace I see the ^?
character instead of it actually deleteing the previous character.
In centos4 this was not a problem.
I have rad about remapping keys and such, but can someone tell me what
the difference between centos4 and centos3 is so I can make the change
to make it work on centos3.

Having problems with SSL and Apache on CentOS
I had a RH7.3 box that provided some web services, but the hard drive
recently started to throw errors. So I got another drive and built a
new system using CentOS4. Unfortunately, there is no one to one as far
as Apache since COS4 uses Apache 2 and there is a dramatic difference
in the way the config files are done. I have managed to get it to
recognize the directory on my other drive after

HAL Daemon failure on boot up
I've been having a problem for a while: when booting, haldaemon will
fail, leaving me without CD/DVD and floppy drives available.
Has anyone else had this kind of problem? If so, can anyone suggest a
solution?
Thanks for listening,

Lock ups: recent, anybody else?
Yesterday, did the following. Two lockups since then. Recent freetype
had just cured some anomalies and now this. One lock while I slept, the
other a few moments ago while active at the KB. Had Evolution, Firefox
and T'bird open among two users on a single X console. No unusual stuff.
Desktop install, fully up-to-date 4.3, i386 (Athalon).

Win2K3 DNS losing Samba DNS entries?
Hi there
We are having a problem where the DNS "A" records of ADS member Samba
servers are disappearing from DNS. It's not routine, but it is
definitely real. What we normally do is assign static IPs, create DNS
records manually and then install and configure the Samba server (mainly
CentOS4 and CentOS5) and "net ads join" it to the domain. This is
normally good for a

Nvidia driver for 6200 LE video card.
No problems with CentOS 4.5. When installed (not upgraded) 5.0 X would

as written for 4.5
Haven't seen traffic regarding this problem. Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks,

Strange browser displays with 5.x on Dell GX-260
I had been running CentOS 4.x for quite some time with no problems.
Apparently I stubbed my toe when installing CentOS 5 final.
Symptoms: various web sites are not properly displayed in Firefox 3.0.1
(or predecessors). In particular, cnn.com and any calls to Google
display with a screen full of ascii characters rather than images. When
I look at "page info" within Firefox, it

Any help would be appreciated.

Problem burning DVD+RW discs
Good Day--
I've been backing up my essential stuff to DVD+R discs for quite a while
with no trouble at all.
Last week I tried backing up to a DVD+RW with no trouble at all.
This week, when trying to re-write my weekly backup, CD/DVD Creator told
me it could not write to the disc because it was read-only. Is there a
bug in CD/DVD Creator or am I doing something incorrectly. Obviously,
