Problem Connecting to Samba-OpenLDAP PDC
I have made some changes to try and get the PDC working and now I am down to one thing where I believe the problem lies. All such documents on the setup show that the addition of users to the PDC should be added to passwd as well as LDAP but for my system that is not the case. I am running the listed software: Fedora Core 4 OpenLDAP 2.2.23 Samba 3.0.14a This is what currently happens when I

chan_capi on 2.6 - impossible?
Hello, I'm trying to get my Eicon Diva 2.01 PCI ISDN card working with Asterisk and was told that I still have some chance if I tried using chan_capi. I tried compiling it (chan_capi) on two systems running 2.6 kernels, but got lots of errors. Before I go investigating - is it possible to compile chan_capi on 2.6 kernels? Or does it work with 2.4 ones only? Tomek

Just search online why in general that is insecure via CLI vs programmatic for first class automation.. there is a reason why snmp, rest, ... exist. run a script with "administrator" credentials?
I saw Active Directory a bit today and was impressed with the ease one can manage many Windows workstations with that. Especially I liked the software installation (too bad it can install MSI packages only) and the ability to run custom scripts on the workstations (when the boot up etc.). Is it possible to run a custom script for a given machine when it boots up (that is already joined to

site-site vpn setup..
There is a reason most NMS systems used SNMP in the past and REST apis past 7+ years. They don't use CLIs except toy Expect type scripts.. Not just security but better error handling and more. Programmatic management with first class APIs is preferred for larger deployments.. Al like any open-source or free sofware you need to put the leg work into what you want it to be. My company is actually creating something using TINC and we believe in it. If successful we'll be giving back to TINC monetarily in a big way to make TINC even better so if TINC isn't for you keep an eye on further developments in the future. encrypted rsyncd - why was it never implemented?
rsync in daemon mode is very powerful, yet it comes with one big disadvantage: data is sent in plain. The workarounds are not really satisfying: - use VPN - one needs to set up an extra service, not always possible - use stunnel - as above - use SSH - is not as powerful as in daemon mode (i.e. read only access, chroot, easy way of adding/modifying users and modules etc.) Why was encrypted

multiseat support in LightDM?
Does LightDM support multiseat setups? For example, I have a PC with multiple graphics cards, monitors, keyboards - used by multiple users concurrently. Will LightDM let me use one PC by many users concurrently (i.e. login screen on every monitor, allowing to start different sessions for different users). -- Tomasz Chmielewski http://wpkg.org

allowing users to install printers
What is the easiest way to allow normal users to install printers (which are available through a Samba server)? Normally, Windows 2000 and XP need to have a printer installed by the admin first on a given workstation - only the it can be used by the user. I want to allow the user to install own printers. Now, when one trises to right click on a printer on a server and "connect", he

How to set a different resolution?
I just gave nouveau a try and was surprised that it just works out of the box on Mandriva. Great work! However, I'm not sure how to set up a different resolution properly. With the closed nvidia driver, I usually just click on krandrtray in KDE and pick a different resolution. With nouveau driver, though, it works as well, but only partially. I can see the resolution is theoretically

what is the default value for --compress-level=?
What is the default value for --compress-level=? 6? 9? The fine manual only mentions: --compress-level=NUM Explicitly set the compression level to use (see --compress) instead of letting it default. If NUM is non-zero, the --compress option is implied. Also, what are allowed values? 1-9? 0-9? Something else? -- Tomasz Chmielewski http://wpkg.org
