Yep, it's the first of a new series (7000 -- sounds like it'll support NV5x out-of-the-box), so that's expected. > Today there is a new driver (1.0-7664) which has fixed lots of issues > for us,

dragging windows leaves traces
I have an excellent nvidia graphics card, I get excellent fps, all agp features are installed correctly etc. When I drag windows around wit hthe opaque settings on it leaves traces for a couple milliseconds as it redraws the window, but it just looks so crummy to see. I am having a hard time convincing people that using linux is a good idea. People make judgements on this type of thing and

When is the next CentOS release?
Hello all, There are significant kernel defects in CentOS 4 which affects our servers. Our most serious bug is mentioned in http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=870 however it says: "Some of these kernel issues are known to have been fixed upstream and should make the 4.1 Release ( due soon now )" How soon is the release of the CentOS 4.1 version? -- sukru

Is it possible to start Installer from WindowsXP?
Hi, My computer has only primaly IDE but not secondaly. I connected a hard drive as Master and DVD-R as Slave on IDE. Modules from a newer kernel with older kernel?
Is it possible to use driver modules from Fedora 7 with CentOS 5? That is to say, modules from a kernel version 2.6.21 with a kernel version 2.6.18. I would like to try libata.ko, ata_piix.ko and some other with the kernel I am using with CentOS 5. Will it be safe? Thank you!

rsync -u gets the older symlinks over the newer one
Hi, I am facing with the bug followed: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4531 rsync will always get the older symlink of the other side overwrite the newer one on the local side. Wayne has suggested to use unison, however it is a non-developing old project that I have suspect to use. What can you suggest me for ? My main aim is to syncronize file, directories, links for 2 nodes. --

Older directory overwrites newer file with -u flag
If I remove a directory 'foo' and create a file foo, and then do a resync from a remote server with the -u flag, the file will be replaced by the directory, even though the file is newer than the directory. older distro have newer package in base repo
Just wondering why in EL5's base repo the latest supported mysql package is 5.5 and in EL6's base repo it is 5.1? Seems strange to me. (it is clear that the SCL of EL6 has version 5.5 but that implies a different update policy). -- LF

Is there a way to prevent an accidental migration from newer version of app to older one?
Imagine a rails app that has two versions that developers need to support: 1.0 and 2.0. There are 2 database schemas: app-1, app-2. After fixing a bunch of very important bugs in production (1.0), some junior developer named Bob switches the branch to 2.0 to implement a few features but somehow gets his app connected to the schema app-1 and does rake db:migrate As I understand, in that case

Re: Reboots -- Reboot Logic ...
The main reason I see this topic come up over and over is because people who are new to UNIX coming from Windows don't realize that they have been "programmed" into thinking what reboots are for. Prior to the proliferation of Windows, barring hardware failure, reboots were pretty limited to scheduled maintenance. Sure, user-space programs have memory leaks, new options are buggy,

Creating tiff with 1200 dpi
Hi all, I am trying to create images in R suitable for journal publication. I'd like to make an image that is 3.6" wide and 5.08" length, and 1200 dpi. When I create a tiff file that is 800 dpi and 4x4", it works (although doesn't look good). But when I create a tiff that is the size and dpi I want, it doesn't work. I get the following error: Error in tiff(filename =

Drag and Drop effects without dragging and dropping?
Hi there, This is very much a newbie question. I''ve been playing with the wiki.script.aculo.us libraries drag & drop functionality (sortable list) for a few days and trying to figure out how the scripts work, without a lot of luck. I was wondering how the "move" of the option is achieved (the "flying" option effect, if you will) and whether I can achieve the

Dragging and Dropping between lists
Hi there, I''m creating a back end system where the user is able to click on a category and then see two lists. One list is the list of artworks assigned to that category. The other list is a complete list of all the artworks that this user owns (minus those already in the category). I''m looking for some online help that shows you how to allow those list items to be dragged
