Deploying VoIP on a WAN
Hi,
As many of you may know, we are undertaking several tests in order to test
the interoperability between several PBX IP from different vendors. Until
now, we were trusting that the VoIP IP PBX were good enough to be
interconnected directly, however, one of the vendors have presented the
"SBC"
concept.
The "SBC" (Session Border Controller) is not a new concept since we

Upgrading to Verizon FIOS from Verizon DSL - Linux machine as router/Gateway/LAN server]
Greetings,
A long time ago I setup a Linux machine as a Gateway/LAN Server using
Verizon DSL as the ISP.
I used the following HOWTO as the guide - DSL HOWTO For Linux:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DSL-HOWTO/index.html
Is there something comprable for Verizon FIOS?
My Gateway machine runs Fedora.
For a new server, I'm considering setting up a CentOS machine, while still
using Fedora on my

Verizon Interconnection
Hi,
Has anyone on this list connected with Verizon's SIP product? We are
currently undergoing interop testing with Verizon, and honestly, it seems
like the most convoluted process. I'd be interested in talking with
someone else who has gone through this and run a few things past you.

Verizon SIP "trunking" Field Trial
All,
We are in the process of trying to setup our network to use Verizon's SIP "trunking" product. They say that since Asterisk is not on their certified list of approved devices, we need to go through a field trial to get it approved before allowing us to use their service.
Where we are at is getting the design approved. We are trying to watch our budget at the same time. We

x100p/hangup detection issues?
Hi..
I've got an asterisk setup with an X100P card installed.. I'm noticing that upon hangup, it takes a good 3 to 5 seconds before asterisk realizes the line has been hung up and drops the call.. this causes my SIP phone to continue ringing, and occassional phantom voice mail messages to be left.. I'm located in good old standard North America, with a regular Verizon residential

Residential services
Hi folks,
The obligatory newbie disclaimer:
"Hi, I'm new to Asterisk and I have a couple questions..."
OK, now that that's over with:
I've just started working for a small CLEC, and I'm trying to sell * to
my boss as a replacement for some expensive/inflexible/closed-source
software he's been using to provide residential dialtone with for a
couple years now.

IMAP and SMTP Authentication
I'm a bit further along but haven't figured out why Authentication is
still failing. I've tried a telnet to port 143 and openssl connection
to 993.
The command I issued, per the debugging page on the wiki, is:
a login info at aesoft-sbcs.com crap
Here is a snapshot from my logs (yup second try and blank lines to make

a2billing for residential voip usage
Hello List.
I just installed a2billing with asterisk 1.6 and got it working. The only problem is that I'm trying to setup something to manage who's using the most minutes in the house. I noticed a2billing only works for callin cards setups, or maybe I didn't configure it correctly for what I want. Can I use a2billing for "?VoIP residential services"? if yes, how? if no,

Verizon VoiceWing support
Has anyone been able to get Asterisk to work with Verizon's VoiceWing
service? I'm in the process of testing Asterisk to see if it will fit
the needs of my company. Since I already have Verizon's VoiceWing
VoIP service, I figured if I can tie into it, that would let me
evaluate service going to a VoIP provider.
I've done a bunch of searching, but didn't turn up

Authentication woes.
I'm still searching but hoping someone can offer a clue-stick.
Long story short! I had a server crash suddenly and all I can get at
are the files. Built a new host and copied the data and config files
over, correcting ownership and permissions (hopefully) as I went.
But now I can't get logged in.

CallerID name lookup AGI script
Hi all,
My VoIP provider (race.com) doesn't send name info with CallerID, so I wrote
an AGI script that does the following:
1) If it's a toll free number (800|888|877|866), set the CallerID name to
"TollFree Caller"
2) Use curl to look up the number in Google phonebook
3) If a business listing, set the CallerID name to business name, as is.
4) If it's a residential

OT: Canada's Primus introduces SIP localservice
I am sure Primus has a SIP platform because we have played with it. We
managed to use it on MSN's SIP phone as well as couple Zultys ZIP2x2
hard phones. Their PC-Phone app is also a SIP soft phone. If you are
registering to sip.iprimus.net then it is definitely their SIP platyform
not MGCP.

asterisk compatible, hot swappable PRI card
Hi
We are in a project where we will use asterisk as a residential gateway for
IP phone service.
We are aiming to replace the primary phone line so the service must be up
as long as possible so we are looking at ways to avoid shut downs.
We are looking for a solution to allow us to add/remove PRI cards without
shutting down the system
Is there such a thing as an asterisk compatible

voice quality of Aastra 480i CT and cordless
Hi Folks,
Looking for feedback on the cordless phones with the Aastra 480i CT handset. Is voice quality comparable to standard consumer residential 2.4GHz cordless phones in the US$30 - $50 price range, or better/worse?
How about handset and speakerphone quality for the main phone?
Seems like there have been various big issues with firmware in past, but is it pretty stable now?
Thanks,

Polycom phones and dynamic IP for NAT
I know the Polycoms work with NAT, but you have to specify the public
IP.
Is there anyway for it to discover the external IP automatically?
I like the phones (been playing with a 301) but for some of our clients
who have a dynamic IP (and no hope of getting a static ie cable or
residential DSL) I'd be afraid to use them since you have to specify the
IP.
What about the Cisco phones?
