Re: Reboots -- Short Answer
From: Prasad Pillarisetti <prasad.pillarisetti at gmail.com> > ***Do you perform downtimes just for the purpose of rebooting the systems? > ***Is there a recommended interval Linux system should be rebooted? Okay, here's my short answer: Regardless of OS, you should _always_ reserve dates/times for preventive maintenance on a regular basis. But I agree with most others, unless

How to query the package owning the file? (no packahe manger installed)
Guys recently I had this question asked in a technical interview. How do I find out the package owning a particular file, when no package managers are installed? I am assuimg SRPMs are used to install the software? Is this actually possible? Install the Linux OS without a package manager? I know "rpm -qf filename" gives the package owning the file. But how to get the package name

UDP Perfomance tuning
Hi, We are running on 5.5 on a HP ProLiant DL360 G6. Kernel version is 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5 (we had also tested with the latest available kernel kernel-2.6.18-238.1.1.el5.x86_64) We running some performance tests using the "iperf" utility. We are seeing very bad and inconsistent performance on the UDP testing. The maximum we could get, was 440 Mbits/sec, and it varies from 250 to 440

/etc/resolv.conf changes
Hello all, I'm getting frustrated attempting to understand; I googled and asked folks and am unable to get a straight answer. 1. How is the /etc/resolv.conf file maintained ? I do not seem to get a consistent result when I save resolv.conf configuration from GUI or by hand using vim /etc/resolv.conf. a. Sometimes I the entries toggles between the two entries: # generated by

NetworkManager and /etc/resolv.conf
CentOS 7.5 image running on linode. unbound running on localhost. Have to use a cron job once a minute to keep /etc/resolv.conf using the localhost for name resolution - whenever NetworkManager gets restarted (usually only a system boot) it gets over-written. It seems every distro has a different way of preventing NetworkManager from replacing that file. I found instructions for Fedora that

resolv.conf setup and DNS issue
I'm happy to see that our "samba pros" do not share the same point of view. :-) In Marcs link, as far as I can see, number 3 points to Rowlands solution while number 2 seems to be Marcs preferred solution. Today I changed DNS settings on my DCs to Rowlands solution (127.0.0.1) and an issue I had with sysvolcheck seems to gone. So what best practise does the samba team have?

/etc/resolv.conf - Number of Nameservers
What is the maximum number of nameservers mentioned in /etc/resolv.conf which will be queried while looking up a hostname or IP address in the present version ? Earlier implementations had a ceiling of 3 name servers which could be queried. Has there been any increase ? Thanks, Manish

Labelling /etc/resolv.conf (rh#1089100)
Hi, I was investigating rh#1089100, which is about /etc/resolv.conf not being properly SELinux-labelled. Basically the problem is due to /etc/resolv.conf in the guest (so available as /sysroot/etc/resolv.conf in the appliance) being moved when executing shell commands (eg guestfs_sh) by the daemon. This operation involves: a) moving away guest's /etc/resolv.conf b) replacing it with the

resolv.conf setup and DNS issue
Hello, what IP(s) should be set for each domain controller? If there are two should both have their own IP set in resolv.conf or should they have the IPs of both DCs? Or possibly just 127.0.0.1 on each DC? Second thing I had was that clients with DNS set to both DCs could not resolve a special host in the internet while the DNS forwarder can. I needed to restart DCs to get it work again. Thanks

resolv.conf setup and DNS issue
So if i did read right . .. In my case.. I have 2 DC ( with bind9 dns DLZ ) and i have 2 proxy servers with DNS (bind9) slaves for the DC's. I should point my /etc/resolv.conf of the DC's also to the slave dns servers? and in case of just 2 dc's without slave dns servers, point the DC1 to DC2 dns and DC2 to DC1 dns ? If thats the case i have to change my scripts ;-) Greetz,

Hai, I suggest for your monitoring, setup an caching name server. https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-configure-bind-as-a-private-network-dns-server-on-debian-9 A desent base to start ready. This speeds up your resolving a lot and that helps you monitoring also. Optional you can make this dns server also a slave dns and caching dns. This would be my preffered setup.
