Messing around with iptables
Hello all,
I am messing around with iptables, trying to learn how
it works so that I can build my self a router/firewall
and mabey a VPN. Anyway I tried to use a command on my
Desktop CentOS3 machine.
"iptables -A INPUT -s 127.0.0.1 -p icmp -j DROP"
now the command seems to have went through because I
didn't get any errors, but when I go to ping 127.0.0.1
I am getting a response

NFS with UCARP vs. GlusterFS mount question
Morning Folks,
should I prefer NFS with UCARP or native GlusterFS mounts for serving the
system images to XCP?
Which one performes better over 1G network links?
NFS is probaby easier to setup due to existing tools like rpcinfo and
showmount, both are used inside the storage container code, and there is some
code for NFS, not for GlusterFS, except I write one.
UCARP has the disadvantage that

CTDB: Clustered NFS, reboot, requires me to exportfs -r(a)
Hi Samba,
I hope you are doing well. I run a cifs / nfs CTDB clustered NAS
solution, and I find that when I reboot any of the nodes in the cluster,
I must re-export the nfs mounts so they show up properly. Perhaps this
is a general linux nfs bug and I am barking up the wrong tree, but I
haven't found any problem / solution mentioning this as of yet besides
my own known workaround

NFS issue with ZFS
I have Solaris 10 U7 that is exporting ZFS filesytem.
The client is Solaris 9 U7.
I can mount the filesytem just fine but I am unable to write to it.
showmount -e shows my mount is set for everyone.
the dfstab file has option rw set.
So what gives?

NFS dont''s start at boottime
Hallo,
I''m running Xen 3 (xen-unstable tarball from 4/27) with kernel 2.6.16
and Debian Etch in all domains. Most things seem to work very well.
But I have some problems with NFS in domU. The NFS-Server started at
boot time but I cant''t access to the shares from a client.

mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified
Hey guys,
My NFS server has been working really well for a long time now. Both
client and server run CentOS 7.2.
However when I just had to remount one of my home directories on an NFS
client, I'm now getting the error when I run mount -a
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified
This is the corresponding line I have in my fstab file on the client:

access deny host (ip) to access the Internet
I''m using shorewall 2.0.x at home as an Internet gateway for family.
However my brother always plays online games overnight, so my parents
asked whether I can do something on the gateway to control the time of
accessing the Internet.
I planned to put a script on crontab to schedule which it will execute
say at 12:00 night daily, the script will execute a command will deny

disabling showmount -e behaviour
I must admit that this question originates in the context of Sun''s
Storage 7210 product, which impose additional restrictions on the
kind of knobs I can turn.
But here''s the question: suppose I have an installation where ZFS
is the storage for user home directories. Since I need quotas, each
directory gets to be its own filesystem. Since I also need these
homes to be accessible

NFS question (and Best Practices)
I saw in another post that a best practices doc will be coming, but I figured I would try to get this working.
I''m trying to understand why zfs uses so many "zfs create" so I can use it better. What makes sense is that each zfs fs can have it''s own options (compression, nfs, atime, quota, etc). I really love this because it is so tuneable -- compression on these

glusterfs over rdma ... not.
OK - finished some tests over tcp and ironed out a lot of problems.
rdma is next; should be snap now....
[I must admit that this is my 1st foray into the land of IB, so some
of the following may be obvious to a non-naive admin..]
except that while I can create and start the volume with rdma as
transport:

NFSv4 on CentOS 5.5
Hi,
What is the magic juju that I have to put in /etc/sysconfig/autofs to
get autofs to default to using NFSv4, rather than NFSv3, for mounting
file systems?
I don't want to place these flags into the automount maps themselves
because we have a varied network with Sun, CentOS, RedHat and
Macintosh systems, and the flags that have to get added to automount
maps (which we distribute centrally

Disabling NFS
Howdy,
With 3.1.3 the option was added to disable the builtin Gluster NFS.
Does that mean that the following scenario should work:
1. Disable Gluster NFS "gluster volume set <VOLUME> nfs.disable on"
2. Restart the gluster servers for good measure
3. On one of the gluster servers, mount the volume using the gluster fuse client:
mkdir /export/users
# In /etc/fstab add

Dropping established connections
Hello,
I have searched the list but couldn''t find the right answer. I want to
drop an established DNAT connection but could not manage it yet.
Someone earlier said to bring down the public interfaces, stop
shorewall, bring up the public interface and then start shorewall again
but this won''t work.
I also saw a message from Tom that someone then should unload all
iptables

NFS client firewall config?
Hi all,
Which ports do I need to have open on an NFS client's firewall to allow it
to connect to a remote NFS servers?
When I disable iptables (using ConfigServerFirewall), it connects fine, but
as soon as I enable it, NFS gives me this error:
root at saturn:[~]$ mount master1.mydomain.co.za:/saturn /bck
mount: mount to NFS server 'master1.mydomain.co.za' failed: RPC Error:
