Are there any hints or tips concerning hardware requirements?

pop before smtp with 'exact' and 'exim4'
Hello,
I just thought I would write this in case its useful to anyone. I've used
dovecot for a while, as its so easy to set up, its fast and it and just
"works". I recently wanted to be able to send via my server after pop3s
authentication. I'm also running debian (testing) which utilises exim4 by
default. I found no information about how to do it with this combination of

fail2ban help
Hello list.
I have a question for fail2ban for bad logins on sasl.
I use sasl, sendmail and cyrus-imapd.
In jail.conf I use the following syntax:
[sasl-iptables]
enabled = true
filter = sasl
backend = polling
action = iptables[name=sasl, port=smtp, protocol=tcp]
sendmail-whois[name=sasl, dest=my at email]
logpath = /var/log/maillog
maxretry = 6
and the following filter:

ActionMailer/SMTP: Net::SMTPSyntaxError when message body contains only a 'dot'
FYI:
I don''t think this is a very well know. It seems that, on some
operating systems, ActionMailer/SMTP crashes when it sends an email
with only a ''.'' (aka a ''dot'' or a ''period''). Specifically, you get
Net::SMTPSyntaxError (502 Error: command not implemented):

is there any reason i would want any of these daemons active in memory on a
simple DNS server if i do not use NFS and... of course, the unit is not
being used as a workstation.

different MAC address, ignoring
I think a recent update changed the behavior of ifup on systems where
the drives were moved or cloned and at boot time have a different
MAC address than the one found in the corresponding interface file
under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts or
/etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/. Now the interface is
ignored with an error message about having a different MAC address
than expected. I

Microphone problems with Skype
Hi,
I have CentOS4 and this soundcard:
00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.
VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)
I installed the Skype rpm for Fedora3 and it works but the quality of
my voice is very poor: volume is low and the voice sound doesn't have
the high frequencies.
Did any of you made Skype work perfectly under CentOS4? How?
Thanks,
Adrian

User login for SMTP but not for IMAP/POP?
Hello everybody,
I have a question, though I'm not sure if it's a matter of dovecot or
postfix. Or if it's even possible to do at all.
If I understand it correctly, SMTP authentification is done via SASL.
When a user wants to login Postfix queries an external user database
(dovecot). Therefore the SMTP-users are identical to the IMAP/POP-users.
I want to achieve the following: I

upgrade from fedora to centos?
Hiya, just wondering how easy this would be, I'm guessing through yum,
but is there a preferable process from updating from fed core 3 to
centos ideally keeping settings as is? (desktop rather than server,
just want to migrate to centos, nothing too essential apart from raw
data).
