ADSL routers with integrated SIP QoS for other devices
Greetings list, Thanks to all who replied to my thread a few days ago "SIP devices with packet loss tolerance". One of the suggestions that came out of that thread was to replace routers at users' premises with ones that support QoS. I've used m0n0wall's QoS in the past with reasonable success, but it's quite a bulky and complex setup for deploying to remote sites which

Asterisk crashes my router!?
Hi, Does anybody else have problems like this. I'm in the UK with a 1mb ADSL service from Eclipse. I have a Draytek Vigour 2600 ADSL router. My * box is configured with a public IP address which is presented on one of the switch ports on the rear of the router. When there is some SIP activity, incoming mainly, towards my * box, the router will lockup after a short period?! I've tried

Systemd service unit file needs to wait until a specific interface is up
Hi all, With SystemD, how can I make certain service dependent on certain network interfaces being up? For example, I have an 802.1ad bond interface I need to wait on for being up (this interface has no ip address assigned, it is used to capture networks packets with a tcpdump?s script). Every time this service fails because bond interface is not up. I have configured the service as:

Centos 4.3: VPN recommend/ howto anyone?
Hi, I'm just curious about setting up a new VPN here in the office part of our enterprise, as well as a second in our 75+ node data center co-location facility. Needing to stomp out the ****dows L2TP node here, just too many side-issues with config. I'd like it to run the same OS as all of our servers, e.g. Centos 4.3. Any recommedations on which software/server/client

Open Source QoS .
My router (1605R) currently does not support QoS. Patch to allow for the ATM "cell tax"
I have been trying to optimise my ADSL connections for VOIP. Funny things were happening - for example increasing the ping packet size by 50% had no effect, but then adding one byte had a major effect. It took me a while to figure out that I was seeing the effects of the fixed ATM cell size. This is probably obvious to some of you. For the rest: ADSL uses ATM as its transport. An ATM

Some problems with Unbound under CentOS8
Good morning, I have detected two strange problems with unbound under CentOS8 (fully patched). I have tried same configuration in an OpenBSD host, and these problems do not appear. a/ Error mesage ?connection refused?. I am using this unbound server to resolv DNS records for our internal domain (Bind9 is configured to listen in localhost interface, port 5353 udp and in the same host where

FBSD All-in-one security box?
Hey *, as I sweat through another day of crap dealing with an all-in-one box (firewall, IDS, AVS, report generating, soon to be a VPN server) I'm wondering if someone has started a project to put some freeware together in some semblance of sanity on a FBSD box. There's basically nothing that this box does that a combo of IPFW (or another bsd filter), snort, ntop, and some other freeware

Best inexpensive home office router for VoIP (QoS with maybe PoE)
Hi, I'm looking for opinions on the "best value" router to use for home offices. It should work for a scenario in which there are 3 computers and 2 SIP phones, handling QoS so that the phones always have higher priority traffic than the PCs. (and not rely on the phones to do the QoS because some PCs may not be connected to the phones). QoS could be based on destination and source

Slashdot on WRT54G
Did anyone see the article? It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the multipurpose firewall desktop machine. Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how advanced you can get with tc rules? For

Asterisk network architecture
Hello, I'm currently working on a new installation and wondering which architecture and protocol I should use... I want to share my Asterisk server between users on my internal LAN and a user connecting via Internet... So, my server has to be reachable from outside and also from inside... For the external user, I'll use a softphone and probably IAX2 ? What about internal users and

Bandwidth limiting and shaping
Hi, I have a client that is looking for an solution to do bandwidth monitoring and traffic shapping. I would like to use Centos if possible, but I need somthing that has a GUI so they can easily make changes and updates. It would have to be ip based or mac address. What would you suggest. I have looked a Ipcop and smoothwall as solutions so far. Thanks

Interleave cells with IP over ATM?
Anyone know if it''s possible to interleave two IP packets when using PPPoA and VC based lines? Can it be done with any PPPoE implementations? The goal is to reduce the delay when you have a high priority packet waiting, but a lower priority (large) packet already started going out ahead of this packet. I don''t want the overhead of much smaller MTU, which is the other way

Router Recommendations Please
Hello all, We've discovered that VoIP (IAX2) + Citrix + Video is pegging the measly CPU on the Netopia router our ISP provided. We've got 3Mb/3Mb and will increase to 4/4 next year. The Netopia simply breaks out our WAN IPs, and we've got a switch hooked up to it on the inside (Actually I've got a QoS box in-between). ------------- | Internet | | on Cat5 | -------------
