Re: [Asterisk-Dev] Free G.729 ready for download
I expropriated the right to rip Daniel's disclamer for use in my
email too..

You might have to pay royalty fees to the G.729 patent holders for using

For easier testing I prepared codec_g729.so binaries and associated

G.729 pre-compiled binaries and Asterisk 1.2.x.
Asterisk 1.2.24 seems to crash repeatedly under any substantial call load
(and sometimes without a substantial call load - just one SIP leg is
enough to do it) when using the G.729 pre-compiled binaries from:
http://asterisk.hosting.lv/
As per:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+G.729+Licensing
Time to crash is variable, but seems to require at least an hour of
production performance

Open G.729 / G.723.1 update, fixed memory leak
A new release of the open source G.729 patch has been issued.
The new URL is:
http://www.readytechnology.co.uk/open/ipp-codecs
The memory leak in codec_g729 is now fixed. This was due to a
problem in a section of code copied from the Intel example. Thanks
to those who assisted in locating this bug. If you are still running
the old version of the codec, your Asterisk process will run out

g.729 codec -- open source?
Hello,
is there an open-source implementation of G.729 codec for use outside
of US? I know it's a patented codec, but since there are usually no
software patents outside of the US, I don't care about the patent
license. I could use open-source implementation of the codec, if there
was some. Any ideas?
Sincerely,
Juraj Bednar.

Digium and mailing lists
I was somewhat concerned reading Mark's posting earlier today.
Obviously, things are very bad in the US at the moment. Their
Government even deported Cat Stevens the other day (check
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3686992.stm ).
Clearly, given the fact that Digium contributes so much to Asterisk,
they shouldn't be forced to risk their company's future by hosting these

SRV record for non-standard SIP port?
Hello
To cut down on the number of hackers trying to break into an Asterisk
server, I'd like to simply move the SIP port from the standard UDP
5060 to something non-standard.
Since this server must be able to receive INVITEs from any SIP UA
(server or client), it appears that I must add an SRV record in the
DNS so that they can locate the server and the port used to reach it.

how to make g.729 preferred, but failover to gsm
how to make g.729 preferred, but failover to gsm
I've purchased a few g.729 licences, and would like to set up iax.conf
such that g.729 is used if they are available, but then it fails over to
gsm.
I'm not sure how to specify such a preference. I'll let the server
transcode from ulaw (from the sip phones) to g.729. Got plenty of CPU for
the number of phones we run off that

HELP: Dose G.729 with IPP only worked on Intel CPU?
Hi, ALL:
I install IPP(l_ipp_ia32_itanium_p_4_1_2.tar) and download the speech codeing
(l_ipp-sample-speech-coding_p_4.1.008.tgz) then patch it (g729-041103.diff).
My CPU is Centaur VIA Nehemiah with 998.715 MHz processor not INTEL CPU.
I choose PIII as its CPU type when I modify Makefile under "G729-float".
# For PIII
OPTIMIZE= -O6 -mcpu=pentium3 -march=pentium3 -ffast-math

Problem logs queue_log-mysql
Hello!
I'm trying to registers events of queues in /var/log/asterisk/queue_log and Mysql database .I have configured realtime queue_log on MySQL and works well, but /var/log/asterisk/queue_log file is empty, since you're not registering events of queues.
Removing extconfig.conf configurations (queue_log => mysql,general), /var/log/asterisk/queue_log works well, events logs on

Royalty for On Hold Music ?
Hi,
Is there any Royalty one needs to pay when using the inbuilt exisimg asterisk on hold music or when using any other mp3 from a music album.
I think we need to pay for the later, but I am not sure if we need to pay for the inbuilt asterisk(freepbx) on hold music.

On-Hold Music
Hi gang,
In 500 words or less (if possible), please explain what is a
legal music-on-hold file? My boss hates the stuff provided with the
distribution and I figure that I'm asking for trouble if I take my Les Mis
tracks and run them through Audacity and SOX to make new files.
Thanks in advance
Danny Nicholas
