Asterisk , ISA Firewall/VPN , STUN and other issues
I have just finished compiling and installing Asterisk on a test Debian
system. All is working well. We are now attempting to get remote offices
to test the system I have installed both a SIP and an IAX client at a
remote office. Then I connect to our office via Microsoft ISA firewall
and the Windows XP VPN client. Neither of the softphones will connect.
On the IAX softphone I just get a ringtone

PPTP connections through Shorewall - WinXP Workstation to Win2003 Server
The problem scenario I describe was reported previously in the Shorewall
lists but its resolution does not seem to have made it into the lists.
Scenario:
Windows XP client seeking to establish a VPN connection to a Windows 2003
Server located behind a Shorewall firewall (running on Mandrake kernel 2.4.22-37mdk).
The connection cannot be made, the client reports error code 721.

PPTP
Last question, I promise, I am running PopTop for PPTP on the same box as my
firewall. I can connect to the box fine, but nothing will route between the
VPN tunnel and the local hosts. I read the Some Hosts have Special
Firewalling Requirements article and though it was what I needed, but either
I don''t get it, or it doesn''t apply to me. Here is my config:

NTLM_AUTH failing?
That is client setup. We have that under control. Our Linux users use
Network Manager to connect and our Windows users use the stuff built
into Windows. My problem is server-side. The server is a PPTP VPN
(running via pptpd) and I have to add the lines below to make it work.
plugin winbind.so
ntlm_auth-helper "/usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=ntlm-server-1"
Now, that allows ALL

pptp vpn through CentOS 4.3.
Hello,
We can't connect to our pptp server through our CentOS gateway with a XP
client.
The linux client is working but not the XP client. I know for a fact that
the pptp server
is not the problem because if I connect the XP machine directly to the
Internet the
pptp vpn is working.
I know about the pptp-conntrack-nat patch, I compiled the 2.4.9 kernel,
with

Yum/WGET/HTTP sourceforge etc.
I am having a problem with 5.4 that I did not have with 4.5. The problem happens only sometimes but in specific
instances. Basically a summary of the problem is that certain network transactions timeout. The specfic instances
are with wget, rpm, http. The problem usually, but not always, occurs with pptp stuff. (NOT running pptp but getting pptp stuff).
For instance, the following command, which

NTLM_AUTH failing?
Thank you, Rowland. I will be going by this afternoon and I will check.
The thing is, if it IS "\", how do I enter that into the pptp-options
file? The entire list of parameters are in quotes, so do I need a
double-backslah or anything?

NTLM_AUTH failing?
I am not sure how to determine the separator, but 'which' shows
"/usr/bin/ntlm_auth". I already ran it while on-site. Since it is
broken, I cannot remote in. I will have to show up on-site again,
possibly Thursday.

1 to 1 nat of multiply pptp tunnels
Hi !
Recently i switched my internet provider, to get more speed but another
braindead setup regarding public ip addresses.
I now have 4 PPTP Tunnel available, of which i''m using one as the
gateway ip doing masquerading to other machines in my local lan,
excluding three other machines, which i would like to use 1:1 nat to
get them a direct access to one of the pptp tunnels.

SPA841 Utterly Horrible, are there any good stun hardphones?
Hello All,
I have been using the following phones with excellent success inside my
lan:
Cisco 7960
Polycom IP600
I have also been comfortable with the SPA-3000.
I recently got a SPA-841 and the quality is aweful. Even in stock
setup, it's like when I speak into the handset I sound like I am very
far away.
I want to get a hardphone for europe, but I need to be able to use a
STUN server, and

VPN inside VPN?
Hi all,
Just wondering if VPN inside VPN is possible?
I've created PPTP VPN in the office.
Then from home, first I need to use company's official AT&T VPN.
Then after connected, I fire up the PPTP VPN client.
Got connected, but cannot ping the PPTP gateway, and half minute later
the PPTP got disconnected.
No obvious error message in the PPTP log.
Thank you.

DNAT and PPTP
Hello,
I''m trying to setup DNAT to forward to a PPTP Server behind Shorewall. I setup the PPTP rules per your documentation with tcp port 1723 and Protocol 47 DNAT to my PPTP Server in the local zone. Looking at the logs it is dropping the connection going to port 1723. It is also dropping UDP port 1701, don''t know if it is of any significance. I looked at FAQ 1a and b and the

help with a W2K VPN client 619 error and PPTP server
I''ve got what I think is a fairly simple home network configuration with one
Linux box functioning as the firewall, VPN server, DHCP server and
file/print server. I am having trouble configuring both a VPN server
(PopTop) and the firewall rules for a W2K PPTP VPN client. The VPN server
runs on the firewall machine and the VPN client runs on a W2K machine behind
the firewall. The VPN

NAT Far End Traversal
Hi List,
After some research, it seems the only reasonable thing to do in order
to get SIP phones behind NAT working reasonably well without fiddling
with the DSL router is to have some kind of far end nat traversal mechanism.
Is there any way to do this with open source tools? I've seen somewhere
that far end nat traversal can be achieved with SER + nathelper does the
job... has anybody

winbind and pptpd authentication failure
Hi all
I'm not sure whether to go to the ppp lists for this, or the samba
lists. I thought I'd try here first.
I have a linux firewall using winbind to authenticate users coming in
with PPTP. It all seemed to work OK at first. After a while I noticed
that authentication was denied to users who had previously (as in less
than a day) authenticated successfully. After a day or so of

I want to connect to a l2tp server from centos.
Hey John,
I do not require encryption at all, it's a secure and internal channel
but it requires me to connect via either pptp or l2tp.
This is the reason I am asking.
I had the chance of finding the SoftEther Project which gives a lot in
terms of VPN Client and Server.
At:
http://www.softether-download.com/en.aspx
But yet to try it.
Also they have all sorts of beta versions but not
