Virtualisation of Netware?
Hi, I am hoping someone can kick me up the learning curve (!) on Virtualization: We have an old piece of data logging software that was written in Turbo Pascal 6 using a file I/O module tuned to Netware and so it expects its data files to be on a Netware server and will not access them locally or via an MS/Samba share - essentially, it uses direct NCP calls for parts of its data access. Re: Filelocking-Problem: Mars_NWE together with Samba
Hi there, we've got the following problem, while Windows-Clients works with samba and a DOS-Client connects over Mars_NWE to the same Linux-Server: When the DOS-Client opens a file on the linux-server and the WinClient opens the same file, and when both clients want to write the same file, the windows-client gets an error and crashes. We tried it only with the windows-clients and there

Anyone out there know the THEOS OS
Hi Guys, I am polling my 'guru' resources to find out if I can get in touch with anyone (UK based, ideally) with support experience of the THEOS operating system. We have one group of sites running a legacy system based on THEOS - an OS that seems to have 'borrowed' the best parts of DOS, VMS, *NIX and Netware. We are migrating some remote sites from Wyse Terminals, serial port

samba and SMP
I've now tried 2.0.6pre2 with a SuperMicro P6DNF dual PPro as well as the Everex StepDP/Pro dual PPro MB; same result, large (more than 1 MB) file copies usually crash with only a message about oplock errors in the logfile. Running a single CPU kernel works fine (pre2 seems much faster, but I haven't done any testing). 2.0.5a does the same. NFS and mars_nwe with the same hardware and

Samba over IPX
I would like to add my case for a wish of IPX support in Samba: We use a number of CNC tool machines whose host is pure DOS based. Don't be surprised that DOS is stilll running somewhere. It is fairly OK when we get to the field of HW and real-time control, unlike Windows and the like... These hosts use IPX to access LAN shares. IPX is here preferable to TCP/IP because of its lower memory

Samba 2.0.6 Release compiles using patches from -current
Using the patches from -current (aa thorugh bb) samba 2.0.6 release compiles under FreeBSD 3.3-RELEASE. "patch-ba" needs to be edited to change the location of the lines patched, and "patch-bb" needs to be edited to remove the first part (no longer needed) and also change the line location for the remaining part. Throughput using an NT4 SP6 P6/200 client connected at 100Mbits

Netware copy fails
Affected: Various 2.x.x releases of samba on Solaris 2.6/8 and Netware 5.1 SP5. Problem: Unable to copy files from a mapped Netware drive to a mapped samba share on a PC desktop (W2K). Error: Several, but commonly "Cannot copy MYFILE. Access is denied. The source file may be in use" or "An unexpected network error has occurred". Has anyone seen similar? It appears that some

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup" smbpasswd's. I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

NetWare Support
Does this list supports the NetWare version (rsync.nlm)? if not does anyone know of a list that does? I'm having all sorts of issues with this ported version on my NetWare 6.5 server. Thanks Jon L. recommendation for a tricky AD/netware setup
We have a co-operative project where we have 2 separate organisations using 2 different server environments. One uses Active Directory and windows file servers, the other eDirectory and Netware servers. We want to do a file server that handle users from both domains. It is easy enough to use kerberos authentication for the Active Directory users and LDAP to an eDirectory server for the Netware

Samba server authenticating to NetWare server?
Hello, I've been Googling and O'Reillying around this problem for the last week without success, so I'm either stupid or it's not possible. My money's still on stupid. Can someone confirm that I can't do what I want to do: - Have a SuSE 9.1 Linux box running Samba 3.0 exporting shares by SMB. - Have users log into Windows boxes running a NetWare client,

rsync 2.5.5 port to Novell NetWare
Hullo, all. I diligently consulted the suggested reading on the way in: > Welcome to the rsync@lists.samba.org mailing list! PLEASE READ THIS > IMPORTANT ETIQUETTE MESSAGE BEFORE POSTING: > http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html 'Twas a quick read, given that I'm the co-author. ;-> I recently received an odd inquiry from someone I didn't know at all,

OpenSSH port to NetWare 6
I'm a software developer at Novell. I have been tasked with porting OpenSSH to the NetWare 6.0 OS. I would like to include my NetWare specific changes,#ifdef'd of course, in the portable releases at some point. Whom should I contact with regard to this? And are there any guidlines I can look at online to minimize any disturbance this may cause to other platforms? Any assistance that

Winbind against a Netware PDC
I'm trying to run winbind against a Netware 6.5 PDC for squid authentication, but i'm running in to a panic error. I've managed to connect samba to the netware server just fine and can run an smbclient authentication against it without a problem but the moment winbind comes into play, it stops working. I've tested the install against an NT4 domain server and it seems to work

Changes to OpenSSH for NetWare
I have attached a diff file with the changes to existing OpenSSH source files to accomodate the NetWare platform. All changes are #ifdef wrapped using one in one of the following defines: HAVE_NETWARE - Building for NetWare USE_EDIR - Using eDirectory(TM) for authentication. NICI - Using Novell International Cryptography Infrastructure (NICI) I have successfully built the OpenSSH-3.5p1

Does samba support netware authentiocation.
Can netware logins and password authenticate to samba shares? If so is it scalable? We have a about 50000 netware users. How do you set it up. Thanks Greg Turnbull

filename encoding netware->linux
Hi all rsync users! This is asked before but I didn't see any replies in archives or FAQ. I'm having problems with character encodings when syncing files from netware (rsyncd) to linux box. Character with umlauts like ?? are stored wrongly on disk. I tried to change enviroment variables LC_CTYPE and G_FILENAME_ENCODING on my linux (suse 9.1), but no difference. Does anybody know how

Netware 5.0 to Samba/LDAP migration
I'd like to migrate a Netware 5.0 serve to Samba and LDAP. I'm wondering how I might export the usernames, passwords, and perhaps group memberships to the destination LDAP. If I can get the data into LDIF form, I'm okay from there. Does anyone know how the passwords in Netware 5.0 are encrypted? I hope to bring them over, but reseting the passwords is not out of the question (just
