Running a 32-bit application on CentOS3-x64
Hi,
I'm trying to run Norman anti-virus on a CentOS 3 box, x64. Is it
possible?
Running the binary gives me this error:
[root at server bin]# ./nvcc
-bash: ./nvcc: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or
directory
I guess I would have to install i386 libraries that it requires, as well.
It it possible?

rpmbuild question.
I am attempting to build from a src.rpm (knowing very little about
rpm at all) and the spec file notes that the architecture should be
set on the command line:
> # platform defines - set one below or define the build_xxx on the
command line
Now. My question is this, how does one do this using rpmbuild?
The syntax rpmbuild --target centos4 package.src.rpm seemingly has
no effect.

rpm problem after upgrade
Hi,
I have upgraded Centos from 3.x to 4.3.
The upgrade apparently didn't go too bad. I had to do the upgrade
remotely, and I used as a base the post at
http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=382
I rebooted the server, and it works. But yum does not work anymore,
apparently due to some conflict between rpmlibs and selinux.
This is the error that I get:

Minimal server install and a few other questions.....
Hello,
I was wondering what is the smallest install that anyone has managed
with 4 (4.2 to be precise) ? I'm looking at a machine running as a VPN
in a DMZ, so I'm going to remove/NOT INSTALL things like gcc, X, etc.
I'm planning on putting this on a 1gb USB stick and booting from it.
That reminds me, was there going to be a 1 CD server install image ?
The other thing I noticed is

x86_64 rpms
Hi,
I'm preparing a new x86_64 build machine and I'm looking at installed
rpms. I have found a lot of packages are marked i386 or i686. I have
even found I have two version of package installed:
glibc-2.3.4-2.36-i686
glibc-2.3.4-2.36-x86_64
What's the reason in duplicity and why not all packages are x86_64.
Thanks in advance,
David

Both archs version rpm are installed during update?
During last update packets pidgin and libpurple were updated while "yum
update"-ing
Is it a common and normal thing that both x86_64 and i386 arch rpms are
installed during update? This not the first time.

MoinMoin rpm
I see we are using MoinMoin on the CentOS wiki.
Is there an rpm available for this?
I'd like to install it on either a CentOS 3 or CentOS 4 system.

Change your default rpm query format on multi-lib archs (like x86_64)
All,
I am now building rpms on, and using a multi-lib arch (x86_64) for the
first time ... when using the standard command:
rpm -qa | grep pkg_name
The results might be pkg_name.i386 or pkg_name.x86_64 ... or both. But,
the way it is shown by the default query format, looks the same ... like
this:
pkg_name
pkg_name
----------------------------
example:
[root at x86-64 ~]# rpm -qa | grep

Need uuid rpm for CentOS-5.2
On my development system I have installed PostgreSQL 8.x from the
yum.pgsqlrpms.org repository. I am getting a dependency error:
Error: Missing Dependency: libossp-uuid.so.15 is needed by package
postgresql-contrib
I can find references to this file in an rpm for fc7
(uuid-1.5.1-3.fc7.i386) but nothing else. Is there a place that I can
obtain a CentOS version of this package? Failing that,

Pyhton Install location/building rpm
Hello All
I need to install Python 2.4.2 for installing Zope. What is the
location for python that should be given in the ./configure --prefix
directive?
/usr/lib is for python libraries..isn't it and thats where I find most
of python installed except for the python binary in /sbin
Should I uninstall the normal python installed in Centos 4.2 by
default before installing from source?

Kickstart, package always selected
I'm trying to kickstart a Centos 4.1 system with the minimum set of
packages. I have no use for ypbind so I'm trying to prevent from
being installed, but kickstart/anaconda always insist on its
installation (complaining that the package is missing). This is the
%packages section of my ks file so far:

grub

postfix-2.2.10-1.1.el4.centos.mysql_pgsql.base.i386.rpm vs postfix-2.2.10-1.1.el4.centos.mysql_pgsql.plus.i386.rpm
Hi,
what are the differences between
postfix-2.2.10-1.1.el4.centos.mysql_pgsql.base.i386.rpm vs
postfix-2.2.10-1.1.el4.centos.mysql_pgsql.plus.i386.rpm. Changelogs are
the very same and there's no announcement.
Thanks,

System on time
Hi,
To get my system on time, I usually issue these two commands:
# ntpdate de.pool.ntp.org
# hwclock -w
And when I want this to be done on startup, I put the two lines in
rc.local.
I wonder if this is an orthodox way to do things. Or is there something
more appropriate?

Building rpms
I have been asked to update OpenLDAP to the latest stable version. I am
using CentOS 4.2 and have OpenLDAP 2.2.13 installed. I can install from
source if I have to, but I would rather stay with rpm packages if possible.
I found an rpm from Fedora Core Development on RPMFIND. Will this one work
with Centos, or should I grab the source rpm and rebuild it?
