Help With Installation to USB Stick
Recently, I was able to create a workable Centos 4.4 "Live USB" on my 1G Lexar Firefly pendrive using the steps in http://linux.web.psi.ch/livecd/usbdisk.html. At the moment, it is doing its job, so I probably won't focus too much more on it. One thing that is annoying, although doesn't cause a problem is that on powerdown and reboot, the cd rom drive ejects - of course, there

Booting dom0: Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Hello list, I tried to install Xen 3.1.0 on Scientific Linux (RHEL4), but this mission failed.. Hope you can help me by finding the reason for my problem. I downloaded the xen sources from http://bits.xensource.com/oss-xen/release/3.1.0/src.tgz/xen-3.1.0-src.tgz and compiled them by running "make" and "./install.sh". This seemed to work. After setting up grub like this,

Dell 1950 Perc 6/i with centos 4.5
We are currently running CentOS 4.5 on older Dell Systems. We are upgrading to Dell PowerEdge 1950 with a PERC 6/i raid controller. CentOS 4.5 installation does not see the PERC 6/i controller. Dell and LSI Logic only support RHEL 4U6 and higher and SuSe. I've tried building the boot images with the new driver for installation but kickstart still doesn't see the raid controller.

Upgrade of Centos 4.1 with 4.2 ISO disc
Can I upgrade my Centos 4.1 system with the 4.2 ISO install disc? If so, how do I do it? It seams to want to do a full (i.e. format, wipe out old) install over everything. I do not want to lose my various configurations (e.g. kppp, kde desktop settings, etc) that I have already set up under 4.1. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Creating the symbolic links in the /boot and /boot/grub/
I started a new thread since the original one is getting rather long. I have retrieved the files I deleted in /boot and /boot/grub, however I need to make links for /boot/System.map (System.map -> System.map-2.6.9-89.35.1) /boot/vmlinuz (vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-2.6.9-89.35.1) /boot/grub/menu.lst (menu.lst -> ./grub.conf) If it was not so important to get it correct, I would appreciate

LVM on dom0?
I''ve spent the past while researching this but I''m just not finding a solution. I''ve been trying to get my xen kernel booting on a pretty much stock CentOS 4.4 installation. I installed Xen from src rpm and installed all the requisite software and I''m sure it''s with the ram disk but I can''t figure out how to resolve this. With a stock kernel

grub problems
This is irritating: I've got a server I just upgraded to 5.4, then rebooted, only to discover that it just *sits* there at the grub boot menu. I looked at grub.conf, and uncommented hiddenmenu (which should have been done long ago). It *still* sits there when I reboot. Any clues, folks? mark grub.conf: #boot=/dev/sda default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

KDE screensaver on Centos 4.1
The KDE screen savers will only blank out the screen though most of them test ok when you hit the test button in the Control Center. The Gnome screen savers work ok. My system has a Radeon 9200SE video card and I have a ViewSonic A70f monitor. Does anyone have a fix for this?

GRUB Timeout problem
I recently installed CentOS 5.1 on a DL71 ASI notebook. After my yum update the timeout parameter in /boot/grub/grub.conf file has no effect. It sits at the grub screen forever unless I press the enter key to select a kernel, at which point it will boot. Any help or suggestions to fix this would be much appreciated CentOS release 5.2 (Final) Kernel 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5 on an i686 # grub.conf

Problems with building a complete kernel
I have a plain vanilla Centos source (not 100% sure where we got it from), but I can't seem to get a build that installs correctly. I tried the method described at http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel, but rpm doesn't like the output file, and even if I install it with -F, nothing seems to happen - no new kernel, now initrd, nothing. When I tried following the directions in the

Switch to Nvidia from ATI
I am having some issues (e.g. System lock ups) with my ATI 9250 Video card. I am thinging about replacing it with either a Nvidia FX5200, FX5500, or a FX5600 card. Xen boot probe
Hi, These are my make menuconfig screen shots. I haven''t found any xen option in v2.6.30-rc. Why is that so? this happens with most of the version. What should I do? should I just let it as it is an run the make command to build the kernel? Regards, Fasiha Ashraf See the Web''s breaking stories, chosen by people like you. Check out Yahoo! Buzz.
