describe scope
Hi,
Googling ''RSpec describe scope'' didn''t yield much, so apologies if
this question has been dealt with.
It seem well known that a ruby class is ''visible'' between describes,
and if this is a problem then you should use some counter as prefix or
suffix:
''class Item_001; ... end''

mock frameworks
Just curious - now that rspec (as of 0.9) let''s you choose your mock
framework, how many of you are actually using (or planning to use)
mocha or flexmock?
Anybody planning to use any other mock framework besides rspec, mocha
or flexmock?
Thanks,

Deprecating the mocking framework?
I saw in one of Dave C.''s comments to a ticket that "our current plan
is to deprecate the mocking framework." I hadn''t heard anything about
that, but then again I haven''t paid super close attention to the list.
Are we planning on dumping the mock framework in favor of using Mocha
(or any other framework one might want to plug in?).

Mocha, Stubba and RSpec
Hi,
I''ve been reading with interest the threads trying to integrate Mocha
and Stubba with RSpec. So far, I''ve made the two changes in
spec_helper.rb suggested, but discovered another one that neither of
the archives mentions:
If you use traditional mocking: object = mock or the stub shortcut
: object = stub(:method => :result), you run into namespace conflicts

How to use different mocking frameworks?
Hi,
I''m pretty new to Rspec, so hope someone can help me out with this.
I''m leveraging a couple pre-existing applications in my current
project, both have fairly robust test suites in Rspec already.
However, one is using Rspec''s builit in mocking, and the other is
using mocha.
If I set config.mock_with mocha in spec_helper.rb, then all of the
rspec mocks fail. If I

Rspec2 for rails 2.3.8?
Hi experts,
I picked up a copy of the rspec book and wrote some tests in spec/lib
and spec/models for my Rails 2.3.8 code.
I was using rspec 2.5.1, rspec-core 2.5.0, rspec-expectations 2.5.0 et.
al.
But I realised that the rspec-rails version I am using is meant for
Rails3.
Which version of rspec-rails should I use for Rails 2.3.8?
Best,
Radhesh

mock framework ethics question
Hi James, Jim, and everyone else who''s listening.
I''ve been investigating an interesting bug related to mocks and rails
AssociationProxies. See
http://rubyforge.org/tracker/?func=detail&atid=3149&aid=12547&group_id=797
for details.
The crux is that if you do this (rspec mock syntax):
obj.should_receive(:msg).with(mock_of_a_model)
and the implementation does

Problems with mock assigned to a constant
Hi all,
Initially I thought this was a bug in the built-in mocking framework(and it
still may be), but I better hash it out on the mailing list before I
file/reopen the ticket:
http://rspec.lighthouseapp.com/projects/5645/tickets/478-mocks-on-constants#ticket-478-6
I thought my example illustrated my problem, but obviously I was passing the
wrong arguments to the mock. I revised my example to

Stubbing Observers in rails?
In most of my tests I''d like to be able to stub out the observers for my
models, but I''m not sure the best way to do this. I doesn''t look like there
is a way to stub all instance methods, and I don''t seem to be able to stub
early enough to stub out the observer as it''s instantiated. I can think of
several hackish ways to get around it, but I was

I lost the RSpec fight
I''ve been working on a Rails project with one other developer; he was
using Test::Unit, and I was using RSpec. That works OK for a while, but
obviously it starts causing pain when you have to check in two places to
see if a piece of code is properly tested/spec''d, you can''t use TextMate
shortcuts to switch back and forth between code and test, you have to

Plans to intigrate ObjectGraph in to Rails
Are there any plans to move the schema definition from migrations to the
model, where it should be?
Like og does, which I think is used by the ruby Nitro framework...
ObjectGraph:

Example code:
[code]
class Post
property :title, String, :sql => ''VARCHAR2(32) NOT NULL''
property :body, String

Capistrano deployment issues under Ubuntu Dapper
I''ve recently upgraded my box from Ubuntu Breezy to Dapper, and for
the life of me can''t figure out why I''m getting this exception thrown.
I''ve switched from Switchtower to Capistrano, and when I run rake
deploy I get this output:
** [update_code] exception while rolling back: NameError,
uninitialized constant Net::SSH::Transport::OSSL

ActionPack tests are failing
Hi,
i''m currently looking into a problem with the tests for ActionPack. 127
of them are failing on my windows machine. On Linux everything is
working fine so far. I just wasted a good part of an hour trying to find
the problem on windows...the solution is: Nitro and not Windows.
I''m using Edge Rails and have no rails gem installed. On Windows I have
the Nitro/Glue/Og gems

Multiple calls to a class method
Hi
Just wrote myself a Date.extract_from_rails_hash to handle parsing
the "date(1i)", "date(2i)" parameters created in the controller
params. I''ve got a method that needs to call this either once or
twice, depending on the contents of the form (one section of the form
is rendered conditionally). So I had two specs for the case where
the second form section

rspec hangs when used with QtRuby
Hello to everyone
I''m having trouble using RSpec to test code which uses QtRuby (both version 3
and 4).
I noticed that, after upgrading from RSpec 1.0.5 to RSpec 1.0.8, some of my
specs which used QtRuby caused spec (or rake, when used from a Rakefile) to
hang indefinitly. After a bit of investigation, I found that the problem
arose in the following situation:
* requiring Qt4 / Qt3

describing a mock_model as being an instance
Is there a built-in way of describing a mock_model as being an instance, beyond
stubbing the eval("Object.methods - Object.new.methods") methods to throw
NoMethodErrors?

UML
In Rolling with Ruby on Rails tutorial -
http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/01/20/rails.html - I saw that to
introduce a new element to my domain, I needed to define it in a table,
generate a model element with a similar name and the class would
autoamtically take the attributes from the table definition. Is it
possible to do this in the other direction... i.e to take the class

Returning the mock associated with an expectation.
I was reading through the FlexMock docs and noticed the expectation
method .mock, which returns the original mock associated with an
expectation.
It looks really handy for writing nice all-in-one mocks like:
mock_user = mock(''User'').expects(:first_name).returns(''Jonah'').mock
So I started playing around with mocha and found I could actually
already do this!

Is stubbing a call to super possible?
Hi
Is stubbing a call to super possible? I am testing a protected
method called authorized in a Rails controller ... part of the logic
flow calls super which calls the method authorized in the application
controller.
As I am focused on the logic of the method in the controller I am
testing I just wish to stub the value returned in the super.
Is this at all possible?
Cheers

flex mock?
Hi guys,
Would you mind if I ask how Flex Mock and Mocha sit together? They compete
directly?
I read that Flex Mock was built into Rails 1.2. Is there a reason to use
Mocha instead of Flex Mock?
Tks
