Home-Shares are not writeable
Hello everyone! After running Samba on several machines for some years, I just came accross a rather strange problem. The short story is that the special user home shares are readable, but not writeable. Here's the long story: The system is a freshly set-up Debian Squeeze, right out of the box. This is the Samba config: -------------------------------- 8<

I'm having a problem here I'm not sure how to solve, so I hope someone else have done the same (and succeeded :) I have an old smb server ('tux') which is ancient (both in software and hardware) and can't handle the load. Strangest thing (crond every 5 min.)
Hi, I've installed CentOS-4 4 days ago. Now, every 5 minutes, crond opens and close a root session, with no other info. Example: Apr 14 16:25:01 tux crond(pam_unix)[4031]: session opened for user root by (uid=0) Apr 14 16:25:02 tux crond(pam_unix)[4031]: session closed for user root Every five minutes the same thing. I have nothing in /etc/crontab that makes such a thing. Does anyone

OK, what's the deal with the display, anyway ?
Does anyone have a consistent way to set the display for wine programs to /anything/ (meaning something other than :0.0)? I have done the followings: ssh to the box I want to run the wine app from. (As a result, DISPLAY was set to "tux:10.0") I tried running wine ./notepad.exe from the Windows directory. This gave me the following: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by

Winbind -u and -g error in 2.2.7 on RH 8.0
Prior to upgrading our production servers (2.2.6 on RH 7.3) I've been testing 2.2.7 on a Redhat 8 box. Samba seems to install properly using Redhat's errata RPM's but whenever I try to get a group or user listing I get the following: [root@tux root]# wbinfo -t Secret is good [root@tux root]# wbinfo -u 0xc0000017 [root@tux root]# wbinfo -g 0xc0000001 [root@tux root]# I'm ready to

can't delete recursive DNS entry
Due to a mistake I created a subdomain with the name of the domain itself. In my case the domain is briesebaer.intern and I created the subdomain briesebaer.intern. Using DNS RSAT Tool I see under briesebaer.intern the subdomain intern and then a recurrence of the whole domain. That means: under intern there is briesebaer and all of the dns query beneath. The query shows the Name=intern
