How to prevent root from managing/disabling SELinux
At work I'm used to tools like eTrust Access Control (aka SEOS). eTrust
takes away the ability to manage the eTrust config from root and puts it
in the hands of "security admin". So there's a good separation of duties;
security admin control the security ruleset, but are limited by the OS
permissions (so even if they granted themselves permission to modify

ocfs2 cluster becomes unresponsive
We are running OCFS2 on SLES9 machines using a FC SAN. Without warning both nodes will become unresponsive. Can not access either machine via ssh or terminal (hangs after typing in username). However the machine still responds to pings. This continues until one node is rebooted, at which time the second node resumes normal operations.
I am not entirely sure that this is an OCFS2 problem at all

Groupwise errors
I'm trying to run the 32bit version of Groupwise. So far I can install it
without any major hickups but when I actually start to run the Grpwise.exe
it will prompt me to login to the groupwise mail server but bombs out with
a debug xterm. It appears to be able to connect to the groupwise server ok
for verifying the password. If I put in a bogus one it will tell me I have

Proxy Access (Manager/Secretary) Best Practices?
I've mostly got our dovecot+postfix+SOGo+openldap open source groupware replacement working the way I want it to; we're replacing GroupWise in our organization and I'm thrilled to be doing it. I'm supporting about 1,000 active staff users (and another 6,000 student accounts).
I've got e-mail and calendar sharing working, and it does what it says it will do, but it is (go

Offsite server replication solution via Internet
Hi
Some of our smaller Central London clients (5 to 25 terminals), who use the NetWare & GroupWise software from Novell Small Business Suite 6, are becoming increasingly concerned about the possibility of their offices becoming inaccessible for a prolonged period in the event of a terrorist attack.
We've been asked to provide a low cost solution consisting of replicated offsite servers to

Printing with and without cups on the same machine
Hi all!
We have a samba 3.0.2a-Debian running in combination with cups.
I want to use cups to print to all "normal" printers (e.g. HP
Laserjet), which seems to run.
But I want also use a printer-script to genereate pdf Files using
gs (no, I don't want to use the pdf backend providet on the cups
web site, for several reasons...)
On a machine running samba 2.2.3a-13 without cups,

Composite Primary Keys
Have been looking into using rails but am finding the "Composite
Primary Keys are Bad" thing a tad disturbing (to put it mildly). I
have been working with RDBMS systems for over fifteen years and this
is the first time I have herd the idea questioned. I have cone across
using surrogate keys which mirror the composite key for performance
reasons in VERY big databases but I have never

Hey folks, am hoping someone can set me straight with a solution to an
issue that has come up involving the timing of rendered page elements in
relation to the completion of an action''s execution.
I have an ror search app which searches through two tables consisting of
7,000 page urls and a table w/ 87,000 related keyphrases within those
pages. Search results can take anywhere from 2

It starts to become a non-responsive from time to time
with 100% cpu usage eventhough there is no

running centos 4 for the past 6 months without any
problem with regular update. Now, I have to reboot
whenever it shows signs of a non-response. It starts
to exhibit this behaviour a cople of days ago. I could

Practical Data Limitations with R
We are new to R and evaluating if we can use it for a project we need to
do. We have read that R is not well suited to handle very large data
sets. Assuming we have the data prepped and stored in an RDBMS (Oracle,
Teradata, SQL Server), what can R reasonably handle from a volume
perspective? Are there some guidelines on memory/machine sizing based
on data volume? We need to be able to handle

Xen and I/O Intensive Loads
Hi, folks,
I''m attempting to run an e-mail server on Xen. The e-mail system is Novell GroupWise, and it serves about 250 users. The disk volume for the e-mail is on my SAN, and I''ve attached the FC LUN to my Xen host, then used the "phy:/dev..." method to forward the disk through to the domU. I''m running into an issue with high I/O wait on the box (~250%)

using "eval(parse(text)) " , gsub(pattern, replacement, x) , to process "code" within a loop/custom function
R-help users,
Thanks in advance for any assistance ... I truly appreciate your expertise. I searched help and could not figure this out, and think you can probably offer some helpful tips. I apologize if I missed something, which I'm sure I probably did.
I have data for many "samples". (e.g. 1950, 1951, 1952, etc.)
For each "sample", I have many data-frames.

Should Perl talk to Rails via LWP
Hi folks,
I need your opinions on a basic design issue.
I''ve seen the light of RoR and have replaced my Perl (DBI/CGI) based web
server <-> RDBMS communication with RoR, but I still have a whole host
of users (other servers/OS''s etc) out there wanting to talk to my
RDBMS and they only talk Perl. Also they don''t want to talk Perl/DBI
directly (they are not allowed
