Interpreting factor*numeric interaction coefficients
Dear all,
I am a relative novice with R, so please forgive any terrible errors...
I am working with a GLM that describes a response variable as a function of
a categorical variable with three levels and a continuous variable. These
two predictor variables are believed to interact.
An example of such a model follows at the bottom of this message, but here
is a section of its summary table:

Loop length supported by FXS module on Wildcat TDM400 card
Does anyone know (appoximately) the max loop length that the FXS module on a
Wildcat TDM400 card will drive an analog phone(over standard - say cat3 or
26 gage twisted-pair wire). It's clearly not going to be 18kft, but perhaps
4000 feet?

Using a 'for' loop : there should be a better way in R
I need to apply a yearly inflation factor to some
wages and supply some simple sums by work category. I
have gone at it with a brute force "for" loop approach
which seems okay as it is a small dataset. It looks
a bit inelegant and given all the warnings in the
Intro to R, etc, about using loops I wondered if
anyone could suggest something a bit simpler or more
efficent?

matrix manipulations
Hi,
I am having some difficulties with matrix operations. It is a little hard to explain it so please bear with me. I have a very large data set, large enough that it needs to be split in parts in order to deal with. I can work things on these "parts" but the problem lies in adding together these parts for the final answer.

median of binned values
Dear list,
I have a vector (array, table row, whatever is best) of frequency values
for categories (or bins), and I need to find the median category.
Trivial to do by hand, but I was wondering if there is a means to do it
in R in an elegant way.
The obvious medioan(vector) returns the median frequency for the binns,
and that is not what I want. i.e,:

Forklift a 2000 phone PBX
I'm staring at an RFP--this company wants to replace a 2000 position PBX
(at eight locations) with a new system. Their mindset is Nortel/Avaya
because they talk about 28-button digital sets. The do specify a few IP
phones for just one location, so they are aware of VoIP.

Converting a categorical variable to multiple dichotemous variables
I have a categorical variable in a dataframe similar to the following...

I need to convert it to 4 dichotemous variables for each observations like...

acts_as_tree wierdness with children.count and children.size
i am making a category tree and i iterate over the category using my
counter_cache however it would show a different number than what was
actually being represetned in the tree.
Here is an example
cat.children = [cat2, cat3]
puts cat.children.size 2
puts cat.children_count 2
cat4.parent_id = cat.id
cat4.save
puts cat.children.size

For-loop,string variables, and the $-operator
Hi all,
First time poster, so sorry if I commit some breech of posting etiquette.
My problem is as follows. I have a data frame where each column represents
a category and the individual data points in each category are binary
responses (in this case they are actually 1's and 0's). What I want to
extract are the counts for each category and put them in a vector. To do

Hum/bux on line
Rich Hi,
After Qwest pronounced my circuits as within spec. (yes, disconnected
from the house) I listened on the lines with my butt set. Clear of all
noise and hum. I then got my box of Cat3 and laid a circuit around the
outside of the house and into my lab. Still clear of all noise and hum.

4+ Port FXS Analog Device
I'm looking for an inexpensive way to connect 20 analog phones to
asterisk. I could get a bunch of Linksys or Sipura boxes but was
wondering if there is a more cost effective way? I came across the
Mediatrix 1104 and even the Mediatrix 1124 but that comes out to be
almost $100/port. I might as well buy inexpensive IP phone. Does
anyone have any suggestions?

Channel bank replacement
Hello,
I am working for a charity in the UK and I am projecting a new phone system.
We would like to connect our two-wire telephones (40 or so) to an ADIT
600 channel bank, and connect that into an Asterisk box via the CMG card
or T1 card.

Best echo-free and trouble-free system?
We currently have a 15-phone system using Asterisk, a combination of
analog phones/Grandstream HandyTone-286 and Grandstream BT101s, and 4
X100Ps connected to analog lines. The system works well except for
the occasional echo problem. I have all the echo parameters
configured, removed all the extra incoming analog lines except to the
PBX, etc. following all the advice on the wiki and on the

wireless desktop phones
I am looking for completly wireless desktop phones. Until I realized we
needed wireless i was going to use polycom soundpoint 501's. Any
suggestions on a comparable wireless phone?

CAC Channel Bank I - FXS
Hello,
I have a CAC Channel Bank I with FXS cards. I've the system up and running, with just 1 issue.
When I make an inbound call, Asterisk says "Zap/26 is ringing", however, the phone never rings. No
lights are lit on the CAC during the calll.
Outbound call works no problem, and the CAC lights up correctly.
Any ideas what could be the problem?

IP FXS channel bank
Hi there,
I'm trying to get hold of an evaluation IP-enabled FXS channel bank. I'm not
sure if it's more a channel bank, or should be called a multiport-ATA. Oh well.
On the surface it looks quite nice - 16 FXS ports, and since it's connected to
the network I can do away with an E1/T1 connection required of the normal
channel banks (if it can be called that :)
