Cisco 79xx series IP phones
Shawn, That's a complete load of manure. I have an office full of 7960's, they work great with asterisk with the SIP images loaded. I'm about to pick up a lot of 7912's (simple one line phones, same as the 7905 but it has a built in switch). These phones have also been confirmed to work with Asterisk. I would recommend not going directly to cisco, and just find a reseller who

OT: cisco 7960G powered by 3com 3CNJPSE
Is anyone using a 3com 3CNJPSE to power a 7960G? I have a couple of 7960Gs and 3CNJPSEs but no combination appears to work. Both phones work fine with a cisco power cube. I get a 47.6V reading across pins 5 and 8 on the patch cable coming from the 3CNJPSE. The network still works through the 3CNJPSE, just no power to the phone until I connect the power cube. Using two straight through wired

Most decent phones have an ethernet passthrough (2 port) so you can plug in your PC. As long as your LAN is decent (Cat5 100baseT switched) the overhead using VoIP is

Cheap PoE switches/injectors?
I'm trying to spec out hardware for a new office, and I'd like to include power over Ethernet as an option. I've seen a handful of PoE injectors around $1000 for 24 ports and a couple switches up around $2500 for 24 ports. Are there any cheaper options, short of buying a boatload of 1-port injectors off of ebay? I don't really need more then 24 ports of PoE out of 48 total

ADSI -- is it dead? Worth bothering with?
Since Colin Anderson -- in a previous thread -- asked the question about whether ADSI was dead, I thought it was worth discussing. We've been using Nortel Vista 350s in our office up until now. The phones are from Telus, I don't know if there's any way to unlock them. It would appear Telus hasn't done much in the way of updating software for these phones; or if they have, they

What NAS device(s) do you use? And why?
If you use any NAS (or a SAN) devices, what do you use? And I'm referring more to larger scale network storage than your home PC or home theater system. We've had very good experiences with our NetGear ReadyNAS devices but I'm in the market for something new. The NetGear's aren't the cheapest ones around but they do what it says on the box. My only real gripe with them is the

Vlan question
There is a way to ensure traffic prioritisation...but it can work out a little expensive. 1. Use 3Com 4400 PWR as your switch. 2. Use 3Com NJ200/NJ220 (US) or NJ205/NJ225 (EU) POE Multiport switches 3. Use 3CNJVOIP-CPOD POE --> 7960 POE/Data splitters for power and data connections to the phone. The 4400 Delivers Power to the NJ2xx switches, these switches have 4 ports which can be

POE Switches and QOS
3com have some goods POE kit and some very nice managed wall jacks that supply POE and are fully managed. Here's an auction that the seller just closed:- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=40990&item=5708757277&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Last time I spoke to him he had 5 boxes of 20 units and was willing to sell them at around $575 with a bit of arm twisting.

Large directory performance
We have been struggling with our Lustre performance for some time now especially with large directories. I recently did some informal benchmarking (on a live system so I know results are not scientifically valid) and noticed a huge drop in performance of reads(stat operations) past 20k files in a single directory. I''m using bonnie++, disabling IO testing (-s 0) and just creating, reading,

OT: LSI SAS1068e / Perc6/iR RAID Health
Is anybody here monitoring Dell SAS6/iR RAID health? I have a mix of CentOS 5.9 and 6.3 installs on the PE1950s. I'm finding drivers and Megaraid Storage Manager downloads via LSI's site, but I'd prefer not to install a bunch of crapware. All I need is the proper LSI daemon which exports info via SNMP. I've used check_sasraid_megaraid Nagios script [0] in the past for PERC5i and

sync performance falls off a cliff
Hi, I've got identical servers. One is primary the other is backup receiving rsyncs from the primary. I'm backing up a file system to disk and the files are small and there are lots of directories. The overall problem seems to be the total number of files. When I had ~375,000 files, the total rsync time was under a minute. With ~425,000 files, the total rsync time is 10 minutes. Last

BRI in the US?
OK, I asked this about a week back and met with no repsonse at all. But perhaps its worth trying again. Does anyone on-list have * running BRI to their local telco? I'm considering this as an alternative to my TDM400p card. Michael -- Michael Graves mgraves@pixelpower.com Sr. Product Specialist www.pixelpower.com Pixel Power Inc.

[Bridge] Linux Bridge + STP + VLAN
Hi, we're running the standard linux bridge setup (redundant bridge) for 5 years now. So first of all, thanks to everyone involved for implementing the bridging feature in Linux. Now I'm trying to bridge hosts connected to VLAN'ed Cisco switches using linux bridge. I'm testing the following setup (Kernel 2.6.19, bridge-utils 1.2 on both bridges)

Server Install Eth0 & Eth1 not working
Hi Everyone: I installed CentOS 4.4 on a new Dell 2950 using the server cd. No errors during the installation and no errors on bootup when loading the Eth0 or Eth1 interfaces. I currently have iptables stopped and selinux disabled. The interfaces have been given a static ip (192.168.1.x). the subnet is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1. I can not ping any device on my network

Compatibility Issues with dell poweredge 1950 and TE110P card
Has anyone had any compatibility issues with a TE110P card installed on a Dell Poweredge 1950? I noted the following error on the LCD display of the Dell Poweredge 1950: E1711 PCI PErr Slot 1 E171F PCIE Fatal Error B0 D4 F0. The Dell hardware owners manual states that it means the system BIOS has reported a PCI parity error on a component that resides in PCI configuration space at bus 0,

Quiet 24 port POE gig switch
A little off topic but.... I need to put a 24 port Gig PoE switch into a small office - no computer room / rack etc. All CAT5 terminates near the owners desk (smart huh?). I want to put a PoE switch in place, with 24 ports and Gig speed. Everyone I've researched so far is LOUD... Anyone know of a quiet one? Thanks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment

VT 64bit kernel with >4Gb RAM
Hi there, I have the lucky task to setup a Xen system. my plateform is a dell 2950 with 16Gb of RAM. I got as far as setting up debian sarge and xen following http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/423 and overcoming some specific difficulties (http://kmuto.jp/b.cgi/debian/d-i-2615.htm & http://wiki.ncsa.uiuc.edu/wiki/Dell_PE1950_NIC_Firmware_Workaround) But, my concern now, while
