MAC OS X Panther :?
Just wondering if anyone has tried MAC OS X and panther.
I will like to do SIP to H323, not sure if this will be possible on the MAC
because of the Libraries PWlib and OPenh32 for Linux..
Just curious..
Anyway, anyone has an easy guide (step by step) to setup oh323 with
asterisk. I saw a guide but i am not very savy on linux.
thanks,
Francisco

Where have all the Gaim icons gone?
Has anyone noticed that in the latest gaim update
(gaim-1.3.1-0.el4.3.i386.rpm) almost all the MSN smiley icons are not
included in the package? I've reverted to gaim-1.3.1-0.el4.i386.rpm and
they're all there. Is this a bug? and if not why would redhat remove the
smiley icons from Gaim?

Pidgin and (lack of) sound on CentOS 4.6
When I start pidgin from the Applications -> Internet -> Internet
Messenger menu, my sound device stops working.
I think this has something to do with the Gnome applet. I appear to
end up with two (sometimes more) copies of the "gaim" process running
-- such that if I use the right-button menu on the Gnome applet to
quit pidgin, a login dialog is stil left behind and sometimes

Shorewall issues with GAIM
I am running Mandrake Linux 9.2 with Shorewall 1.4, and GAIM direct connect does not work, and it did before on my hardware router. Upon connection attempts, the program reports that the connection was attempted at 0.0.0.0:5190 for any user, and then promptly fails. The syslog does report that the packets were blocked. These are my stanzas in the rules file for shorewall configuration:

Bug in viewport handling?
Hi,
Is the following an (unknown) bug? Rhythmbox (RB) has an option for
using a icon-tray. Restoring/minimizing to the tray in combination with
switching viewports (VP) seems to confuse compiz.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start RB on VP1.
2. Minimize to tray.
3. Change to VP2.
4. Click the tray icon to restore.
Result: RB is restored to VP2, while compiz changes to VP1. Subsequent
clicking on the

ser --> sip.conf --->extensions.conf, variable context
Hi
If I have ser sending calls to asterisk, is there a way to get a
different block called in sip.conf for each call (based on some
variable, NOT username, From:), if not and they all hit one block which
has contect=abc, then when that context is called/matched in
extensions.conf, how can I have diff features for various groups of users.
EG lets say I have a large company with 4 departments

Include files though directory excluded
Hi,
I got a little question on the rsync-option include/exclude:
I excluded all hidden files in my home-directory but I want two files to be
included. I used following command:
gregor@notebook:~> rsync -avzuPn -e ssh --exclude=.* --exclude=*
--include=.kderc --include=.gaimrc /home/gregor/ 192.168.0.1:/home/gregor/

Mini-centOS
I am using centOS for my server and centOS is extremely stable. I almost love centOS more than my wife. However, centOS is a bit heavy to run on my notebook (P III 1G, 256MB RAM). I need gnome, firefox, openoffice, realplayer, gaim, acrobat and thunderbird on my notebook, but if I install all of them (plus base-system), my notebook becomes very slow. I wish I could have a lighter version of centOS

Portable R?
Hello list,
A short time ago, I found
http://johnhaller.com/jh/useful_stuff/portable_apps_suite/, which
contains basically a complete set of office tools that can be run
*entirely* from a USB key. The concept is:
- find a Windows PC
- put in your USB key
- run OpenOffice, Firefox, Gaim, Nvu, Thunderbird, ... directly from
your USB key, with no app installation required
- save your files wherever

Wine and XP
I have Wine working, and my Windows XP-installation mounted
as read only. Reading the FAQ, I noticed: "DON'T configure Wine
to use an NT-based Windows install (NT, Win2K, WinXP)."
So... is it futile to try to get XP-applications running on my
Linux-box? Should I install them from Wine, and if so, how?
"wine SETUP.EXE"?
I'm mostly interested in running Instant Messanger

Trillian On Wine?
Has anyone been able to successfully run Trillian Pro 3.0 on Wine? I
just tried today (admittedly, I'm VERY new to Wine) and it started to
come up fine, but the Contact List window (which normally does a kind of
fade into view thing) just kept moving down the screen back and forth
and never rendering correctly. And the execution of the actual account
sign-ons never happened, according

Trouble with Skype
Hi,
I've managed to get Skype running under Debian with the latest Debian
release of wine. The sound is perfect, and there are no connection problems,
but I noticed the following:
1) Sound from my microphone disappears ONLY when I start some other
application or switch to another application. I can only vouch for this in
KDE, and it happens whenever anything accesses the soundcard, so
